[Flexradio] Database Info

2010-10-19 Thread G3VGZ
As I live in Region 1 the default database gives incorrect band information.
I've modified the bands in line with UK allocations but although I get the
correct band name, and out of band (and transmit disabled) shown correctly
for the appropriate frequencies, the red line signifying the band edges
remains at the Region 2 band edges.

Hunting through the database I see no way to change this. Is it possible.

[Flexradio] Flex500C remote questions

2010-10-19 Thread scottw3tx
A friend of mine will be undergoing heart surgery soon and he has asked me
to setup his Flex5000C (built in computer) for remote control during his
convalesence. I am not very familiar with the 5000C
The current setup is as follows:
Incoming Fixed IP service=>Linksys 8 port router==>Serial device
server==>Green Heron RT20 rotor controller
Flex 5000C
Icom 7800==>Icom IC1KL amplifier===>CT17 level converter
==>Three (3) SteppIR controller
We are removing the 7800 from the system [ He likes the 5000C much better
:-) ]
Here are my questions:
1). What is the most reliable way to run the 5000C remotely from his
"outside the shack" laptop?
2). Can the incoming CW and SSB enter, and the outgoing audio leave, the
5000C directly through it's LAN connection to/from the router, or must these
be done only through the front-panel Mic, Key, and Headphone connectors?
3). What is recommended for the SSB link to/from? Skype on both the 5000C
computer and laptop, IPSond, other?
4). What is recommended for CW to/from?
5). Can the 5000C directly connect to the CT17 so that the IC1KL and SteppIR
controllers follow the frequency?
6). Can the 5000C software directly control the RT20, or should I leave it
on it's SDS run by PST rotor?
7). What have I not asked?

[Flexradio] DICE(y) problem?

2010-10-19 Thread Eddie DeYoung
Wow...did we get off the topic on this one!

90% of the replies were of absolutely NO VALUE in helping me
resolve the problem.

In future, maybe you all can start a NEW TOPIC when getting so far
off track?

The only useful advice I got was to run the driver using
administrator, which I did, and it did allow me to see the DPC.

However, it seems that the RICOH-based firewire will not work with
the PowerSDR 2...

I tried as many combinations of buffer/etc as I could...and
managed to get the system to work...for 3-seconds... then it hung
up again...

I have reverted back to my old Toshiba with TI-based firewire that
WORKS...

The Toshiba has some keypads missing, but at least it works!

Sri!

I think Ricoh and NEC are the same chip so its definitely not going to work
with the flex! Truly, TI is the best and safest course.

[Flexradio] Question about remote operation

2010-10-19 Thread Mark Lunday
Trying to run SDR and view the panadapter over the internet is quickly
becoming a non-starter. Very graphics intensive.

So, how are folks out there controlling their Flex 3000 radios? Ham Radio
Deluxe? But it then becomes just another remote controlled legacy HF rig,
right? How do I control the filters, etc?

Or am I missing something simple?

Re: [Flexradio] Question about remote operation

2010-10-19 Thread Gary Blau

Hi Mark:

FWIW, I use my 3000 exclusively remotely since I can't deploy antennas
at the home condo. You're quite right that the panadaptor and other
data rich display modes can be a real bandwidth hog.

As a benchmark, using VNC for remote desktop access, the panadaptor eats
up ~200-300kbps of outbound network bandwidth all the time, (PSDR
display refresh at 30fps). I prefer to use Radmin at home, which
provides a very nice looking display but at the cost of even more
bandwidth, up to 1mbps depending on the refresh rate. You can slow down
the refresh rate and reduce the bandwidth, but you pay for it with a
jerky display.

You might try the NetPerSec utility on your machine to monitor the bps
network data flow in real time in and out so you can gauge how things
move around when working remotely. Can be a real eye opener.

I'm fortunate in that my radio is located at the end of some bonded T's
at the office with lots of guaranteed outbound bandwidth and almost no
other traffic on it at night & weekends, so it's not a problem for me
while operating from home.

When I'm traveling with my laptop I usually use VNC and Skype, for a
typical total incoming bandwidth of ~300kbps. Most hotel web service
seems to handle this ok, but in some bad places where audio breakup
occurs I'll disable the panadaptor display and 'rough it' with just the
S meter and freq display.

No need for HRD to control the radio unless it does something else you want.
