Here is the touchscreen that Beppe is selling (I believe). Its USB driven.

It has a fold-up "stand" thats quite nice.

[Flexradio] PC case with 7" touch screen - any recommendations.

2011-07-12 Thread David Walker
Hi flexers,

Can anyone suggest a PC Case with a 7" touch screen that can be used for
the woodbox software?

I see the Silverstone CW03 (expensive) but nice and the LUXA2 LM200
which is more of a multimedia box.

I cannot seem to get info at the moment about whether video is send via
USB or whether they are present with their own firmwares.

Any advise would be appreciated.

[Flexradio] CW Transmit Distortion - N1MM

2011-07-12 Thread Hunter Mills
Has anyone experienced this same
problem?

My CW transmit signal generated by N1MM is distorted (sounds choppy like
early beta versions of PowerSDR 2.X). However, my CW signal sounds fine when
using my external paddle keyer.  I have been very happy with the cw performance
of the official release of PSDR V2 but I can't seem to duplicate that
performance in conjunction with N1MM.

N1MM was working well with previous versions of PSDR (ie V1.18).

I am using a K3NC Quad Core, Windows XP, and the latest version of N1MM and
PSDR 2.0.22

The only programs active during the
contest are N1MM, PSDR, and my internet connection for DX spots. CPU usage
monitor on PSDR indicates a max usage of 30% - I ran a latency check and it was
minimal.

I ckd the Knowledge Base and my N1MM/PSDR settings appear to coincide with
those suggested.

Just not sure why the CW transmit via
N1MM is degraded.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated - Hunter K3IE

Re: [Flexradio] AF control and VAC

2011-07-12 Thread Keith Goobie
MIKE

AF and VAC are audio components that can be further described by the
following characteristics (and hopefully answering your comments along the
way).

1. External speaker audio volume is controlled by the AF slider in the mid
to lower left part of the PowerSDR window.

2. You can influence #1 by the windows volume controls as well.

3. In general, VAC audio is not controlled by the tradition means that you
normally think of controlling Windows audio.

4. VAC audio control by SDR is best done by the VAC control panel in
PowerSDR. If you are connecting PowerSDR to HRD/DM780 by VAC, adjusting the
tx or rx sliders, will not impact / change the External speaker audio. You
can however hook the VAC audio to a speaker, but it is not normally done.

I have generalized in the response, but it is not so clear what you are
trying to do.

Yeah, I guess you could. Never thought of it before! Thanks for pointing
this out, Alf.

But assuming you always have headphones & mic plugged in, you'd have to
unplug/replug or figure out a switch or whatever. Once the virtual stuff is

Just a bit of a nit-pick, as this is an issue raised by the anti-Flex crowd.

You don't NEED to go with the virtual connections; you can use the
legacy audio I/O cables, Signallink or whatever you use with a
[standard/normal/legacy] radio. So long as you you take the usual
precautions for RF ingress and connector integrity you are good to go.

But why do so? Keep everything in the digital domain. VAC/VSP just
works. The other radios do not provide that option.

Carter, the transmit audio is generated by the JT65HF program. I assume you
have it, since you say you're doing JT65 with your Yaesu.

Bring up JT65 and select Setup. For the sound input and output, use the VAC
lines you have set up for other digital programs. Forget the Signalink, it
has nothing to do with this. Everything has to be done with virtual cables,
both for audio and for CAT.

Then set up PTT. Create a pair of virtual ports, one for PSDR and one for
JT65. You can verify that it works by clicking the "Test PTT" button.

If you don't have VAC and vspMgr up and going, you can find out how to do it
from the Flex knowledge base, for example, at page:

That is because fldigi doesn't support JT65. For JT65 you need another

I seem to have this intermittent problem and I have been working directly
with Tim and Gerald on this as well as other areas within the Flex team.

There are 2 scenarios and this is on a Windows 7, 64 Bit both with and
without an Intel Firewire card and both either in legacy mode and not in
legacy mode.

After a clean reboot, you turn on the radio, wait until Windows finds the
firewire ports and then start PSDR. All looks good, but you have no power
out.

To recover, you:

Shutdown PSDR
Power off the radio
Wait
Power on the radio
Wait
Start PSDR

All is good and now you have power

The other scenario is that all is good. Then for no apparent reason, you
loose power again (with no warning).

It would be nice if PSDR would tell you when it has no RF out as the RF
output meter on the Radio also shows 0 watts out. (Gerald, maybe we can add
that with a warning popup--last night I was running 6M and couldn't figure
out why no one was call me back).

The recovery is the same as above. Last night, I worked 2 more contacts
when I lost power again. I did the same recovery and then it worked fine
for a few more hours.

This is with the latest non-beta release.

My ask to the community is have you seen this before and if so, how did you
fix it. Remember, I have tried every combination of Firewire card, etc.,
(see above).

Many thanks all, Mike VA3MW

Yes, you can retrofit a different mic to a headset but I suspect that most
people who use an aviation headset with their ham gear are doing so because
they have the aviation headset for aviation use. This implies that the
headset is already working properly for its primary use and you don't really
want to change that.

The key in aviation that keeps one from mixing things up is that the type of
plug used is standardized. A standard GA microphone, whether hand-held or
boom mic, uses a .206" TRS plug. (This is the same plug Collins used on its
radios for mic input.) If the mic has this style of plug it is normal to
assume that the mic will be a carbon mic analog (amplified dynamic or
electret also). The earspeaker of a standard GA headset terminates in a
separate, standard 1/4" TS plug.

Conversely, military headsets use the U-174/U plug, a shortened 1/4" plug
with tip, two rings, and sleeve. Both mic and earspeakers are terminated on
a single plug.

The difference in plug prevents someone from making a mistake and
inadvertently using the wrong type of mic/earspeaker.

My suggestion which will also eliminate problems is to build an appropriate
adaptor for the headset in question rather than modify the headset.

Since day one, my fire wire card and cable have been the original (selected
