[Flexradio] flex 1500 minideluxe and ddutil

2014-10-22 Thread Carol F. Milazzo, KP4MD/W6
I set up this spreadsheet to sort and pair VAC and VSPE ports for PowerSDR,
MiniDeluxe.and DDUtil
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgYEwMpiXdqwdDBCZzc0MnpWZ29NTjIxVnAwTG1hblE&usp=sharing
The spreadsheet also includes port pairs for WSPR, WSJT, Bob's S Meter and
another instance of PowerSDR running a Flex 3000.

This means that PowerSDR S-meter readings currently are in error on 50 MHz
and when used with VHF or UHF transverters.
Until and if this discrepancy is corrected in the PowerSDR software, we
must remember to add 3.3 S-units (20 dB) to the PowerSDR S-meter reading in
order to give accurate S-meter reports above 30 MHz. Thanks. Carol

[Flexradio] How can PowerSDR S-Meter be corrected to read S9 at -93 dBm on VHF/UHF?

2014-04-13 Thread Carol F. Milazzo, KP4MD/W6
The IARU Region 1 Technical Recommendation R.1 defines -93 dBm as S9 on
VHF/UHF frequencies above 30 MHz and -73 dBm below 30 MHz.
How can the PowerSDR S-meter readings be adjusted to correctly indicate S9
at -93 dBm when above 30 MHz to comply with this specification?

The $9 Inland 87052 headset is quite comfortable and provides excellent
received sound and transmitted audio quality and level with the FlexRadio

[Flexradio] Flex-1500 and external frequency reference.

2013-07-19 Thread Carol F. Milazzo, KP4MD/W6
My GPS disciplined 10 MHz square wave frequency reference did not work with
the Flex 1500 since the Flex 1500 reference input uses a bridge rectifier
as a frequency doubler and requires a sine wave source. Since a square
wave consists of a sine wave at the fundamental frequency combined with all
its odd harmonics, a low pass filter will convert a square wave to a sine
wave. I used RFSim99 to design a 3 pole Butterworth low pass filter. The
RFSim99 simulation model yielded a frequency response curve with 1.7 dB
loss at 10 MHz and 30 dB attenuation at the 30 MHz third harmonic. The
filter was built into Altoids box: two 270 pF capacitors and a 1.4 µH
inductor (17 turns of magnet wire on a T50-2 toroid core). The filter's
actual frequency response measured with a MiniVNA Pro corresponds with that
predicted by the RFSim99 model, and the Flex 1500 now works with this GPS
frequency reference.

Re: [Flexradio] ADC L and ADC R Imbalance and Phase 2 Display

2013-04-13 Thread Carol F. Milazzo, KP4MD/W6
My Inquiry:

My FLEX-1500 Phase 2 display is displaced outside the center circle to
the lower
right quadrant and the ADC-L and ADC-R readings show a 4 dB difference.
However, the FLEX-3000 Phase 2 display is properly centered with only a 1
dB difference between the ADC-L and ADC-R readings.

The FLEXRadio Knowledge Base article at
http://kc.flexradio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50298.aspx states that the ADC-L
and ADC-R levels should be within 1 dB of each other, and that a mixer
balance offset may cause the difference to be greater than 1 dB.

FlexRadio Systems Support response on Apr 13 04:17 pm (CDT):

Carol,

I had a discussion with the 1500 engineer, and he says due to the way the
1500 internal codec has to work with the USB , that the phase2 is not going
to be exactly like the 3000 or 5000 but could not explain the difference.
So for now the phase 2 display is not an issue. He suggested that if the
Gen/bal passes, it 's operating correctly..

I read this post and need to know if VAC is no longer available in SSB

Changing modes form any mode to an SSB mode turns off VAC1 even though
"Enable for Digital modes. Disable for all others" is NOT checked. I
need VAC1 enabled for all modes as I use CW Skimmer on CW and
WinWarlber's Digital Voice Keyer on SSB both of which require VAC1.
