[Flexradio] Apple Mini and Flex

Is there an issue with latency? I am involved in Mars and digital modes

configuration is recommended for Flex use...Tnx in advance...Dick W4NTG...

[Flexradio] Frequency jump of 800Hz

2012-04-19 Thread Dick Kalt
I've had this happen before and sent the F5KA back to Austin. When the rig
is cold, just turned on, I see an 800Hz upward jump in frequency. Then after
about a minute or so it jumps back to the frequency I was originally on. I
think it's an RFIO board problem, but I'm wondering if there is any fix for
it without sending the radio back.again. Suggestions are welcome.

[Flexradio] Audio Distortion - Thanks for the response

2012-03-22 Thread Dick Kalt
Thanks to all who responded to my question on distortion in PSDR and DPCs. I
had never gone over 1,000 and was able to see when it was spiking. I have a
few of the offending programs running and although I had not had the problem
before I've shut down some unneeded processes and that seems to have cleared
things up.

Thanks again for the quick response.

[Flexradio] Audio Distortion

2012-03-20 Thread Dick Kalt
Recently I've noticed that my 5000A will occasionally drop in to a state of
distorted audio on both receive and transmit during a QSO. At first I
thought of excessive CPU demand because of multitasking, but its occurred
with usage under 50%. I simply turn PSDR off and on in an instant and
everything clears up. I've not encountered this problem over the past 4-6
weeks with versions 2.2.3 and 2.3.5. It happens and a recycle brings
everything back and it might not happen again for a few days or could occur
2 or 3 times in 10 minutes of operating. Does anyone know what might cause
it and what the fix might be?

I'm running Vista with a dual core 2.4MHz processor and 4GB of RAM. The same
system I've had for 3+ years with the 5000.A

Thanks in advance.

Here is the "big one" and the last one.

PowerSDR v2.3.5 New Feature Alert #7: VAC for RX2 (VAC2).
VAC2 is available only for use with the FLEX-5000 equipped with a second
receiver (RX2). Using VAC2, you can define a VAC input and output audio
stream in PowerSDR v2.3.5 for RX2 (VFO-B) that allows for either simplex
operation, full duplex operation on cross band (satellite) or SO2R
digital mode operation (with the appropriately configured Expert antenna
configuration). VAC1 (RX1) and VAC2 (RX2) can be configured for the same
or different VAC driver types, Direct IQ options and sampling rates. You
can feed wide band IQ spectrum data to CWSkimmer on one receiver using
Direct IQ and feed "real audio" to a different digi mode application
such as Fldigi on the other receiver at the same time. With the use of
the VAC2 input (transmit), you can operate S02R using digital modes when
TX is on VFO-B.

PowerSDR v2.3.5 will be available for download on March 5th. An
announcement will be made on Monday with download details.

[Flexradio] Memory loss in 2.1.5 Solved!

2011-07-30 Thread Dick
It appears that the memory.xml file will be damaged and deleted if PSDR 2.1.5
is not closed prior to shutting down the computer. The memory.xml file is
written when PSDR is closed, however if there is a forced close caused by the
computer shutting down there is apparently not enough time for the file to be
properly written. It is good procedure to close PSDR prior to shutting down,
however, it was not an issue with earlier versionsAh So...Dick W4NTG

Dick,

Pending any possible enhancements into PowerSDR, you can get the function
you want now using DDUtil and a pair of macros - one macro would tell DDUtil
to send a CAT command to turn the MOX on, the second would tell it to turn
the MOX OFF.

I can give you some pointers to two resources that can help you do this -
Lee W9OY has a writeup on his blog regarding using DDUtil and the
FlexControl, the second is a pointer to Steve's (K5FR) excellent Wiki on
DDutil.

Here are the links...

When I get a chance this week I'll post a write up on my own blog regarding
advanced configuration of FlexControl options using DDutil.

In the meantime, hope these pointers are useful!

Also, just downloaded and installed 2.0.16 with absolutely no problems in to

[Flexradio] 5000A frequency shift

2010-07-22 Thread Dick Kalt
Recently on two separate occasions I've noticed that I've been 800 Hz higher
than the station I'm in QSO with. I checked alignment with WWV and all
seemed OK. The other station appeared on frequency with me but reported his
frequency to be 800 Hz lower. Then, after a couple of minutes I would
suddenly shift down 800Hz and be on the correct frequency. It isn't a
gradual shift, it's sudden, so I'm presuming an intermittent of some sort.
Any suggestions on how to correct the situation?

I've been following the discussion and simply want to say that I've enjoyed

agree with others that have said the choice between PB and the original GUI
should be available in v2.0.

For some time now I've been seeing a dramatic reduction in RF power output

when I used to see 10 watts. On sideband I used to see average output from
20 to 30 watts give or take, but now it shows between 0 and 10 watts, little
movement. I deleted the database and had it rebuild but I'm still seeing low
power out indication. Am I missing a setting?

I've got a Flex-3000 arriving soon, and I'm confused about conflicting
power supply specs. The Flex online store has a Dayton sale on the
Astron power supply as a recommended Flex-3000 accessory, but the
Flex-3000 owner's manual states that such a supply is not adequate.

>From the Flex-3000 Owner's Manual:

"The FLEX-3000 requires a stable 13.8 VDC power source rated for
at least 25 Amps and 30 Amps peak for proper operation."

>From the "Flex-3000 Accessories" at the online store:

"Astron 25A Switching Power Supply More info... Regular
Price: 119.95 Sale Price: $107.96 Portable light weight
regulated 13.8 VDC switching power supply. 25 amps maximum (ICS)
or 20 amps continuous."

Which information is correct? I suspect that the SS-25 is fine for the
Flex-3000, but the specs in the manual say otherwise.

Also, not much clarification in the "more info" page for the Astron
power supply, which says:

"Astron SS-25 Switching Power Supply

The Astron SS-25 desktop switching power supply features high
efficiency switching technology specifically filtered for use
with all communication equipment including HF.

Measures RF power and VSWR with an accuracy typically better
than +/- 3% over frequency and temperature ranges.
Peak Hold Modes ? programmable for fast (1/2 sec), medium, slow,
and Long ( 5 sec) to match your operating mode - CW, SSB, data,
FM, whatever your sending!
..."

A Power Supply which measures RF output and VSWR!?

It looks like the information for the power supply was replaced with
information about the Station Monitor which appears later on the page.

2008-03-20 Thread dick kalt
I'm using a 5K with PowerSDR, and lately, perhaps 4 or 5 SVN updates ago, I
began noticing that when I recorded off the air or off the monitor and
played the recordings back that an even paced pulse begins after 5 to 10
seconds have elapsed. It's intermittent but happens far more often than
not. Processor use is not abnormally high anywhere from 15-40% depending on
what else I have open. Even if I don't have any other programs open beyond
my normal start menu, the pulsing occurs. I've adjusted input gain down but
it doesn't seem to matter. I'm using Vista Home Premium with a 2.4GHz Core
Duo and 2GB of RAM. Everything else seems to work fine.

Any suggestions?

Re: [Flexradio] Tortoise Cleanup

2008-01-16 Thread dick kalt
Tortoise seems to have locked my working version of the SVN for some reason
and I have been unable to update. It says to run Tortoise cleanup, but I
need help with the protocol.

Can someone tell me the proper procedure to run the cleanup, or am I better
off just downloading a new version of Tortoise?

Thanks,

Dick, W1FYI

[Flexradio] Wrong SVN number showing up in the header

2007-12-15 Thread dick kalt
I've noticed that since update 1826 that when I download it that everything
seems OK but the correct update number doesn't show in the header. The log
indicated I got the update and when I try it again Tortoise says I already
have it, but the header doesn't change. Perhaps a simple fix, but it's
happening to me.anyone else? Is it possible I'm not actually getting the
update?
