Re: [Flexradio] LP100 Plot Unable to Cause PowerSDR Flex3000 to Generate Signal

2014-01-21 Thread Michael Logan, KB7IUV
Nevermind I went on the LP100A forum and saw that they suggested AM
since it will always have a carrier. Was able to generate a lot of nice
SWR graphs for all my antennas.

I have an LP100A that I am attempting to plot my SWR with. The PLot
program talks top the PowerSDR okay and can set the frequency but it
just seems to turn on the MOX which does not generate a signal unless
you're modulating some audio or pressing a key.

Has anyone got this to work successfully? Is there some something I
can do to cause it to use the TUNE command instead?

Thanks to the group in advance.

[Flexradio] PSDR v2.7.2 Preamp Anomolie

2013-12-17 Thread Michael Logan, KB7IUV

To recreate:

1)Go to 20 meters and set Preamp to "Pre2"'
2)Go to 40 meters and set Preamp to "Pre1"
3)Go back to 20 meters, Preamp shows "Pre1" (but is is not really)
4)Set Preamp to "Pre2" notice the lack of difference (because it
really is still on Pre2)

5)Set Preamp to "Pre1" and notice the difference.

Here's another:

1)For 20 meters and 15 meters, set Preamp to "Pre2"
2)Go back to 40 meters and make sure its still on "Pre1"
3)Go back to 20 meters and notice it says "Pre1" (even though you
left it at Pre2)

4)Go to 15 meters and notice it changes to "Pre2"
5)Go to 20 meters and notice it now says "Pre2" like it should.

Conclusion: The display of the actual preamp setting seems to no
coincide with actual setting. Anyone else see this?

Re: [Flexradio] Macros

2013-08-26 Thread Michael Logan
To me it makes sense that it runs both macros. If the monitor is on it would
again turn it on (no real action) then it would turn it off. If it is off it
would turn it on again and then immediately off.

I recently added a macro to do the antenna tune function and had thought about
adding the MON ON macro so that when I tune, the monitor would be turned on.
Then I could have a macro just to turn it off. Since a tune takes just a couple
seconds if I want to monitor I can just do a quick auto tune on the band. If
you no longer want to monitor then you can turn it off at any time.

Since you usually tune the antenna when you change frequency you would always
be monitoring by default.

It's not optimal but it should work. I have not actually tried it yet but I had
the idea a couple days ago.

Let us know if it works and suffices.

[Flexradio] Temperature and Voltage Display Anomalies

2013-06-22 Thread Michael Logan, KB7IUV
Funny thing just started happening...I typically have the temp/voltage
dialog displayed on my PC. Now when I use the mouse wheel to
scroll-tune the panadapter window, the voltage displays 6.4 volts and
the temp shows -450 degrees F!

Once I stop tuning, it returns to 13.8 volts and normal temp (95 degress
F right now).

Anyone seen this before? I have a Dell Optiplex 7010 with i5 CPU @
3.2GHz, 8 GB RAM, 64-bit Win7. I am running PowerSDR, CommCat, DX
ATlas, CwType, Postbox, Explorer, Chrome, and IonoProbe all at the same
time and CPU never gets above 25%.

In fact, with only PowerSDR running it also happens. This after
restarting PC even!?

Hi mike,
I was wondering what brand/model mouse you purchased? I was looking at
walmarts web page and have a ton of mice.
But I saw something else that caught my eye and you may be interested.
They have a 19 key programmable numerical keypad. USB but I believe I
saw a wireless one for a couple bucks more. I've been programming my F
keys using hot keys on my keyboard. This would allow the keyboard to
be placed out of the way.

Something to think about.

Re: [Flexradio] Using FlexControl with 2 PowerSDR Instances

2013-06-20 Thread Michael Logan
I know this not answering your question, but I considered buying a flex control
but then decided against once I found what I really was wanting. I use a newer
mouse that has a free-wheeling mouse wheel. You can switch it back to normal
"detent" mode but I usually leave it in the free-wheel mode. The wheel is
weighted like a little flywheel. I usually keep my tuning step at 50Hz. Give
the wheel a spin and it will continue to spin for about 5-10 seconds. I can
easily scan half the band with one flick. It also allows the type of control
you would get with a knob. I'm glad I did not bother with flex control because
now my hand never leaves the mouse. You can then tune either radio with same
mouse.

As to your question below, I would hazard to guess that having each knob use a
different USB port, you could easily assign the correct port to each instance
of PSDR.

Re: [Flexradio] CW keying latency issue with the Flex 1500

You might try adjusting your pan adapter frames per second. Possibly you could
live with a slower pan adapter refresh. The setting is in the "Refresh Rates"
frame under the "Display" tab in setup GUI called "Main Display FPS". Try

Re: [Flexradio] Great Results from New PC and PowerSDR

2013-06-12 Thread Michael Logan, KB7IUV
I also use CWType and like it. I have my paddle interfaced to my PC via
a cable that converts the 1/4" plug to a DB9 RS232 connector. This is
then connected to an RS232 to USB interface to the PC. This allows the
RS232 to USB to be a sacrificial lamb should I get a good static
discharge to my paddle -- I won't ruin an RS232 port.

This allows me to use the CWType to practice my paddle technique without
actually transmitting by not being in CW mode. I used to go to CW mode
and set power to 0 but the darn TX/RX relay still switches.

Now I can practice CW without relay trip and use CWType sidetone. This
allows CWType to convert my code to text to see how I am sending both
during practice and also during a QSO. If I get tired of paddle, I can
just type or even send out automated CQ beacon for Reverse Beacon Network.

I also can choose to use semi-breakin if I wish or I have installed a
PTT foot switch to just keep radio keyed while I am sending if I want to
avoid TX/RX relay switching until I am done with my over.

I'm an avid CW operator and have had difficulty with the performance
of the

Flex 3000 in the past. However, I am now a satisfied customer and find the
Flex to work very well.

The key for me was the latest version of Power SDR, 2.6, along with its FW
Driver. In addition, I've upgraded my PC to a DELL XPS 8500, a
quad-processor desktop running Windows 7. Now, the radio works well with
consistent keying on transmit. Also, I'm running DDUtil along with my
logging and DX Cluster using TRX Manager. I'm using the internal keyer at
speeds up to 35 WPM. In addition, I am using CW Type rather than CWX
as the

latter is still poor. CW Type is very good.

If anyone has questions, please feel free to contact me.

My only remaining issue is the lack of QSK. I must use semi breakin. It's
workable.

Re: [Flexradio] Simple Remote Control

2013-06-08 Thread Michael Logan
Also,
You will need to mute the audio going to Chrome using the Windows mixer on the
radio's PC. This will eliminate 2 audio outputs from reaching your remote PC
otherwise the 2 audio signals will sound like an echo since the latencies are
different. In fact, the audio from Google would also break up a bit while the
audio from RemAudio did not once you adjust your buffers properly.

2013-06-08 Thread Michael Logan
I just got mine working beautifully last night using this suggestion from Bret:

"Try "RemAudio" server and client it works great and has real PTT for the two
way audio at http://df3cb.com/remaud/ This is the BEST way to go as far as
I'm concerned for Audio and PTT I have found, It's so much better then Skype
or using the built in audio in TeamViewer or Google Desktop. Works good with
VAC as well, once you get PowerSDR set up with all the radio functions set
you can use the radio just fine with out all the over head of the Remote
Desktop application when your running Voice communications on a slow
internet connection. Oh yea it does the connections Point to Point using
what ever IP address and Port you want to use with NO Main Internet server
to go through so there is a little more setup on your internet router but
that is old hat for most people anymore.

Re: [Flexradio] Simple Remote Control

2013-06-06 Thread Michael Logan, KB7IUV
I actually just installed this on my station PC and on my work laptop.
I was able to very easily remote control the station using the laptop.
I have a dual 22" display setup that is completely full of windows from
PowerSDR and CommCat. I was very pleased to see that the remote Chrome
display shows the entire display as one continuous display without
changing the original screen resolution (other RDP software messed up my
PC resolution and changed my window layout). On the laptop, I can go
full screen and then just use the mouse to smooth scroll left or right.
This allows me to use all my screens I have setup (log, DX window, QRZ
page, DX ATlas, etc.

I did try SSB but was unable to get the voice audio from my USB headset
on the laptop to modulate the Flex3000. I used the mouse to click the
MOX on Flex but it did not seem my voice audio was making it to the
station PC? Listening to the Flex audio output was fine. I use this
headset all the time for VOIP for work so I know it works. Not sure how
to be able to get mix audio?

Anyone had any luck?

Mike

If you are thinking of remote control and you have not checked June
2013 QST page 59; may I suggest checking this article.

I installed it per the published instructions; easy to understand with
step by step instructions.
The best thing about this remote is that it works! Without having to
install TeamViewer, Skype or other software that has been recommended
by others.

I have full control of my station through the web with my new laptop
running Win7/64 and my old IBM T-43 using XP and 2 gb of memory. Now,
I make excuses to go to internet cafe near the beach to enjoy
operating remotely.

I operate all digital modes but I don't know why it would not also do
SSB, which I have not try.

My station:
Flex 5000A (also tried with F1.5K)
PDSR 2.6
VAC
VSPManager
DDUTil
JT65-HF & JT9.1
HRD ver 6
Idiom Press Controller
Google Remote Desktop
Desktop computer i7-Win7/64-8 gb
Control via HP laptop or old IBM T43
with installation of Google Remote Desktop

If you don't want to control your Flex radio, then use it to control
you home computer without the added software for your radio.

Now, I love my Flex radios and my computer remote operations.

Credits goes to KB9MNM, Dave Wright (kb9...@gmail.com). Published by
QST Eclectic Technology editor WB8IMY, Steve Ford (wb8...@arrl.org).
June edition page 59.

Only draw back is that I have to learn and install; how to turn my
computer and radios remotely.

73, if you like to try my station, I will issue you a temporary
password to try it.
