Re: [Flexradio] Gee! Now we are supporting Wonder Radio clones here
Hi Duffy A comment regarding your post: I didn't know that owning a Flex piece of hardware was a prerequisite to getting help from the amateur community. I for one have been the beneficiary of help from Luis CT1DMK in the past on a matter completely unrelated to SDR. He is very generous with his expertise. I'm sure all of us get assistance once in a while from a number of sources. Sometimes its just nice to help someone out. 73 Rick ve3mm On 16-Dec-08, at 5:25 PM, Duffy wrote: I was wondering why the post from Luis Cupido CT1DMK replied he was using a " sdr1000 like hardware " when asked if his problem, asked here, was a 1000 or a 5000 radio. I guess he at least was truthful cuz he said that he was running a " sdr1000 like setup ". But boy it takes some balls to come here and ask for support for free when you never even purchased the hardware , new or used, to run that " free " software. Re: [Flexradio] Question re Direct IQ out from PowerSDR
Hello Everyone I learned something today, so I guess my day is complete again. hihi. This is due to the advice from Ed W2RF, Tim Ellison and the knowledge base article by Mark M0MRR. Thanks to all of them. What I learned is this: Powersdr and CW Skimmer can share the same IQ input from an SDR 1000 in the PC itself. ie Both programs have their setups selecting the same input into my Delta 44 card. Each program functions fine with no hickups. This is amazing to me that two programs can get data from the same sound card input, simultaneously. After so many years of having Windows tell me one port or another is already in use by another program. I guess sound card inputs are not treated like com ports. So the bottom line is this: if you want to use CW Skimmer with an SDR 1000, just set the CW Skimmer inputs to the same input as the one that PowerSDR is using. Set the CAT functions using the standard Vcom setup and all is well. 73 Rick ve3mm On 24-Nov-08, at 8:05 PM, Tim Ellison wrote: There is a Knowledge Center article on how to use CWS with the SDR-1000 http://kc.flex-radio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50355.aspx -Tim -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ] On Behalf Of Edward Russell Sent: Monday, November 24, 2008 7:41 PM To: 'Richard Stasiak'; 'FireBrick' Cc: 'flexRadio List' Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Question re Direct IQ out from PowerSDR Hi Rick, I didn't get your email and just found this thread. The academic version also includes a number of tutorials to help learn the features of the program. VS Studio.net 2003 supports Microsoft Visual Basic, visual C++, Visual C# and Visual J#. [Flexradio] PowerSDR Open Source Fan
This is a personal anecdote written to thank Flex for deciding to make PowerSDR open source and to encourage other non-software types like me to experiment with the code. I have had a 1 watt SDR since January 2005 and built a 10 watt amp that Tony KB9YIG designed. The amp is integrated into the SDR enclosure and gets its bandswitching information from the board stack just like the Flex 100 watt amp. The only thing missing is swr feedback information from the amp to PowerSDR. To overcome this Bill KD5TFD modified the PowerSDR code to not fold back the power output if the swr information was not present. Eric at Flex was persuaded to incorporate the code into the PowerSDR binary and have it activated by a command line switch. It was an accommodation that was most appreciated by me. I was a happy camper, for over a year. I used the 10 watt amp successfully and forgot about improving the hardware and incorporating the planned swr information circuitry. Anyway, this nirvana came to end somewhere around release 649. It took me a while to realize the private accommodation was gone. Every time I transmitted the power was folded back to almost nothing. Rats... What to do? Ask Eric at Flex to fix it..No, don't do that, he's busy with real problems. Ask Bill to look at itI talked to Bill and he said he would, once he finished working up some code for the softrock transmitter. I realized it was not fair to Bill, he's a real busy guy too. Anyway, I knew I had all of the tools. So why shouldn't I try and make my own software fix. What do I have to lose? I dug in, downloaded the SVN source code, fired up Visual Studio and went at it. Believe me, I really didn't know what I was doing. I've never had any formal software training past Fortran Four (and that was in the 70's). But, things have changed. Its a lot easier than I thought it would be with sophisticated tools like Visual Studio. By doing simple text searches for words like swr, high swr etc. and comparing the code from versions 648, 649 and 701 I was able to isolate the changes and reincorporate the code that was my own private fix. I hit the Build button and the compiler produced my own special 701 version. I dropped the exe file into the latest svn binary folder and guess what ..it worked! Fabulous, I am a happy camper again. And you know what? I am considering making a few other changes to the console that I think might be nice for me. Look out world! This would not have been possible if Flex had not made PowerSDR open source. Thanks again Gerald. Anyway fellows, if I could do it, I'm sure you can too. Consider playing with the code. Start with something easy like putting your callsign on the banner. There's no solder smoke to get in your eyes with this experimentation. 73 Rick ve3mm ___ FlexRadio mailing list FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archive Link: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ FlexRadio Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com

I had the turn around times down to a minimum with my SDR but with the delays I felt the timing with the DX station was off. The contact needed a couple of unnecessary repeats to complete it. I have also tried using MOX for cw in these situations by programming one of the buttons on my Shuttle for the MOX function. But there is still too much of a lag switching back to rx. Frankly if it would speed up the T_R of the radion you could do away entirely with any sidetone generation, internal keyer in the software etc, and just let me use an external keyer to do these functions, or at least make this an option to be turned on and off. Nice not to have to open the cw form to tranmit cw. A couple of notes on the release. - when CWU is selected and the VFO is tuned to 7.010 Mhz the transmit frequency is 7.0089 Mhz. The error does not appear if CWL is selected. - When I transmit on CWU and then switch to CWL and transmit again the transmit signal becomes choppy and unstable. Re: [Flexradio] Delta-44 microphone connection
Hi Joe A preamp is definitely needed, either a separate unit or the one built in to a second sound card. The Delta 44 has only line level inputs and your microphone is not producing line level audio, unless it has a built in preamp. The microphone connector on the front of the SDR provides a convenient place to connect a microphone with a ptt switch in order to key the SDR into transmit. The audio from this connection is routed to a sound card microphone input or to a preamp. 73 Rick ve3mm I received my SDR-1000 last week (right before the Dayton rush), which I ordered with the Delta-44. I have it set up and working on receive according to the diagram on Ken N9VVs great website, together with 1.3.4. I also understand that I will need to use a microphone preamp. However, regarding the actual wiring/connection of the microphone is it possible to connect the microphone to the front connector on the SDR1K enclosure and then connect the To Mic In connector on the back via the preamp to the Delta-44, or does the microphone need to be directly connected to the preamp (as shown in the diagram)?

GM all, Dayton was real fun. It was neat to meet alot of folks in person. I purchased a Shuttle Pro2 from Flex Radio at Dayton. I was really impressed with the tuning wheel. It is a huge improvement over the Griffin Powermate in rotation smoothness. I wonder if anyone has configuration files they for the unit they would like to share? There will soon be dozens of configuration files available as people develop new mapping ideas for all of the buttons on this device. Maybe we can start a folder on the flexradio friends download site. 73 Rick ve3mm
[Flexradio] beta 1.3.4 observations
Hi gang. Just a quick note. The processor activity during cw transmit of 1.3.4 has gone up significantly from previous versions. previous beta - rx 5-6%, tx 1-3% 1.3.4 - rx 6-10%, tx 13-20% Also, the internal keyer has degraded in quality in this version. It now very easy to mis-send a character unless one's keying is very precise. Don't know if this problem is tied in with the previous observation. Hoping the new keyer will arrive shortly after Dayton. 73 rick ve3mm
Re: [Flexradio] Loss or Transmit power
Hi Tom Sorry to hear about your problem. These ideas may sound pretty simple, but you never know. Have you checked the board to board connections, cables between the radio and computer? Rick ve3mm - Original Message - From: Tom Shikoski To: FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz Sent: Sunday, May 15, 2005 5:57 PM Subject: [Flexradio] Loss or Transmit power Are there any hardware gurus out there who would be willing to assist me in tracking down my loss of output power? I have had a functioning 1W SDR 1k until I added the ECOs # 001 and 011. The receiver operates normally, but I have lost output. I have available an o-scope, vtvm, and signal generator. I have some hardware experience, but not with this radio. Help/suggestions appreciated Tom AA8YI ___FlexRadio mailing listFlexRadio@flex-radio.bizhttp://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz
Re: [Flexradio] Volunteers
Hi Eric I'd be glad to help. Let me know the schedule Rick ve3mm On 13-May-05, at 11:33 PM, ecellison wrote: Folks If you have not listened to the forum audio, in it Gerald asked for a few volunteers at Dayton to man the booth while he and Eric take breaks and lunch etc. I think many of us are qualified to steal….. er…. sell the radio. I’ll put together a list and we can get together with Gerald on Thursday early to see when we can split up the coverage duties. Re: [Flexradio] Delta-44 hookup diagram oops bad link....
Hi John Can you let us know which models of the mixers you use? 73 Rick ve3mm In a message dated 5/7/2005 1:42:06 P.M. Central Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: http://www.n9vv.com/Images/SDR1000/Delta-44-hookup-graphic.jpg In my station, I use two Behringer mixers-one on the transmit side , the other on the receive side. These mixers allow me to use the same mic/audio gear with multiple rigs. [If anyone elects to do this, you should use isolation transformers in each line. Transformers are available from Radio Shank for very little cost]. In my case Outs 1/2 , 3/4, and Ins 1/2 go to my mixers. I like your graphic Ken. Gets the info across nicely. You should be a computer artist. hihi Rick ve3mm On 7-May-05, at 2:40 PM, Ken Hopper N9VV wrote: oops... bad link in first post (sri) Here is a link to my first shot at a Delta-44 hookup diagram. Re: [Flexradio] Your input is needed
I vote for Phil's suggestion, It seems to be great for split dx work. I like the idea of being able to transmit on the alternate listening frequency, like I do now with my FT1000mp. No criticism intended on the next comment. Split operation is very cumbersome on the present console. Being able to monitor two frequencies with different bandwidths and transmit on either will be a great improvement. How about mind control? hihi 73 Rick ve3mm On 4-May-05, at 9:29 AM, Phil Harman wrote: I'd like to see if we can keep the spatial relationship of the multiple receivers aligned with what we see in the panadapter. For example, with one Rx we have the Rx bandwidth shown in the middle of the panadapter and centred between our ears. If we then add another Rx, and show it's bandwidth on the panadapter in another colour, then where that Rx is moved ( perhaps by dragging the centre of it with the mouse) then the spatial position moves as well. That way additional Rx's on the left appear in the left headphone/speaker and visa versa. With multiple receivers I see no reason why the main (first Rx ) should have to remain in the centre. For example when working split I'd like to place one Rx on the LHS of the panadapter to cover the DX and then the other Rx's the split distance apart on the RHS. By having the correct spatial alignment it may be possible to work out which of the 'n' big guns has just cracked the pile up and tail end him (of course the panadapter will also show this). Perhaps by right clicking on him you could then set the Tx frequency so you can tail end him
