Re: [Flexradio] All was well Until
Your situation may be different from mine, but I had a similar thing happen to me once. I had to uninstall everything related to the powersdr software and reinstall which took care of the problem. You may just want to do a data base reset first. After that there are those on this list that know better about the deeper aspects and can help you. Just hollar. I doubt that the box is the problem. The AGC and Drive slider controls also pulsate between half setting to full setting alternately. It gets better when I turn the power switch it really go bonkers! Starts scanning frequency, changes bands, etc. all on its own! Interestingly I have been able to get back to normal operation by energizing the MOX (transmit) as long as It happens in a ham band. This of course does not last... I can turn the power off but I cannot exit PowerSDR with out using the Task Manager to shut down. Reboot and power gives the same result. Re: [Flexradio] [FlexEdge] BSOD with RC's
The 5000. I just now installed all the microsoft debugging tools and it reports that the vspmanager, 64bit, evserial.sys is probably the cause of the failure. Equipment is win7 64 bit, no service packs, net 4.0 installed, net 2? installed, etc. 4 gig memory, amd 6 core processor. I'm going looking for a signed 64 bit vspmanager program but I may already have it installed according to the folder under program files(86). But if it's 64 bit I don't know why it's not in the standard program files folder for 64 bit programs. However, powersdr rc2 did work for about 5 minutes when first installed. Maybe some other program is hogging the memory space that evserial.sys wants. I think I best uninstall several pieces of driver software and then try to reinstall them in case a bit or byte is out of wack. Any additional thoughts are very much appreciated. [Flexradio] transmitting while receiving (5000A and 1500)
Please forgive my lapseand stupid question. I'm do not want to harm the front end of either of 2 radios, and we do this all the time on Field Day, but I still have not figured out the best way to avoid damage to the front end of any radio, receiving on 20 meters from one radio, and transmitting on say, 40 meters from another radio. Antennas will be overlapping a little bit, as a corner of the 40 meter loop is directly under but seperated by 20 feet from the 20 meter beam. Possible? Or prudent? However having asked that, is it possible to damage a front end of a receiving radio connected to an antenna, while turned off, and transmitting on another radio with an antenna close to the one turned off? Particularly these SDR radio's from Flex. Still learning. Re: [Flexradio] Time for an amp for my F3K
Reflections, for what it's worth... I used to think that 1000 or 1500 watts where needed... After carefully watching other stations receive me in real time (digisites, cam), with 3kc bandwidth, 350 to 500 watts has never failed me, unless the sky wave propagation just wasn't there. I use NVIS type of propagation and antenna setup for 40 meters. I believe most of use get bit by the QRO bug, usually sooner rather than later in our ham experience. At least I did. With CW and the narrower band width, 300 watts will work full circle the globe, again if propagation is working. If it's not, you can forget 50,000 watts. I'm getting a small solid state amp, no more than 250 watts, for the SDR 1500 I'll hopefully will be receiving soon. 12 vdc input and I can go mobile, portable or what ever. I think you will be more than okay with what you propose to do. There should be some real good feedback here on amp selection. Good luck and DX, or whatever is your poison. Re: [Flexradio] Why FlexRadio SDR?
6 month user here, this radio is unegualed for weak signal, in my opinion. All my friends are amazed by the transmit quality and ask for bandwidth checks as well. Digging out a weak signal is why I bought the 5000. I played with the field day audio file and the demo program quite a while before making my decision. I'm not looking back. All the rest of my radio's except one backup unit are for sale. Good work Flex!!! de vic k4xtt. On 8/29/2010 11:05 PM, Mark Lunday wrote: I have seen some negative press lately. What I WILL comment on is the signal processing of the system. The superb performance. I was in the shack tonight, reading some email and BB posts, when I heard a very weak CQ on CW. Something like 339 RST. I was on the hex antenna pointed north (fixed direction), so I switched to the dipole facing E/W at 64 feet, no improvement. Went to the inverted L, no improvement. Went to the multi-band vertical, just a tad better. Narrowed down the bandwidth of the CW filter, turned on noise reduction, and copied YJ0VK. He was calling CQ, nobody answering him. So I put my 100 watts to work. After 3 min, he finally copied my call. In the log! Vanuatu. But the thing is, I was able to HEAR HIM. If not for the Flex SDR system, I would never have heard him on my traditional rigs. Yes, I used the CWX keyboard like I always do for CW. It's a small tradeoff to make in exchange for the amazing receive capabilities of this system. If you just have to talk to the tuner there is a different setup you have to use for the tuner. See section 10 in the Palstar manual for how to do this. Re: [Flexradio] WSJT
Yes, exactly. Happens in all versions. I think that it is caused by latency inherent to the software and design by nature of the software defined system. Likely unavoidable since it takes cpu cycles to process everything in software vs analog circuits. Analog circuits being almost instantanous. I am going to ask Joe if anything can be done on his end. Likely not. I see the same phenonoum in Fldigi, MMSSTV, WSJT. To a somewhat lessor extent in Easypal, but it's there. Maybe when Deep Impact comes around and the software becomes more modular things will improve. As far as i'm concerned they can stop upgrading everything existing and get Deep Impact DONE.
