Re: [Flexradio] PreSonus Firebox Owners - Please Read
I dropped them an e-mail on these issues and got this response from their customer support manager: "There will be a FireBox firmware/driver update later this year to address all of these concerns but that will be a ways off. Stay tuned, and we appreciate your patience." Not a lot of substance, but it sounds like the fix is at least on their radar. The issue as before seems to be some reluctance in releasing this new firmware to the end user in a timely fashion. To that end I would encourage all current (and future users) of the product to write the company, more specifically, these individuals http://www.presonus.com/contact.html to express your dissatisfaction with their product. With any luck we will raise enough dust to have these deficiencies addressed once and for all. I would also appreciate hearing back from anyone who receives a response, positive or otherwise, from their inquiry so all may benefit. I'm sure a lot of us would be happy to bitch at them. Can you provide a couple of sentences that describe the issues succinctly but with sufficient detail so we can sound intelligent and consistent in our complaints? Re: [Flexradio] PreSonus Firebox Owners - Please Read
Larry I somewhat agree with you. Here are the exceptions. There product has published specifications no mater what the application. They should be held accountable for those declarations. (flat response on 96 KHz out to 50 KHz) Also the firmware I'm using has a bad bleed through at 11 KHz, well within the range of the target market's bandwidth usage. In addition their Mixer allows audio to be sent out the Main Out when in Bypass mode. Obviously the Mixer is effected (broken) too. This also is a utility that is targeted directly at their primary market. Should we be heavy handed, of course not, but I do plan to tell them that I know there is a fix, I don't have it and I paid good money for a high end product that is not performing as such and I am not a satisfied customer. I would expect them to provide such a fix since it exists. If I do not receive satisfactory results from them, I have several courses of action; get rid of the Firebox, get a little more heavy handed, or just ignore it (which really isn't going to happen). I whole hearted agree that what ever method that is taken, it must be done in a professional manner. -Tim --- Tim Ellison ( [EMAIL PROTECTED] ) Integrated Technical Services ( http://www.itsco.com ) -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Lee A Crocker Sent: Wednesday, June 07, 2006 9:22 AM To: FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] PreSonus Firebox Owners - Please Read I think before we go off the deep end on Presonus we might consider our position. We are using their product in an off label application, in a way the "soundcard" was not intended to be used. We are not very many of their users. They made a firmware change at our request that once changed apparently can not be undone. This new firmware while solving some flex-radio problems may in fact screw up the reason their soundcard was developed in the first place, that is for the pro-sumer home studio recording market. I can see their reluctance to releasing a firmware change that might hose up their regular users were it to get into general circulation and give their now desirable product the name of Mudd. So before the trigger gets pulled on heavy handed tactics perhaps we might consider their response to such tactics, since we are at best a nitch market to them, especially since it looks like the Janus project is proceeding and may supersede the Firebox as the DSP front end of our radio. 73 W9OY __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: [Flexradio] PreSonus Firebox Owners - Please Read
Kirb Thanks for bringing this to our attention! Although I don't own a Firebox at the moment, I will definitely get a complaint in snail-mail today. It is amazing that if a company does have a fix that they don't make it readily available. I work with windows hardware every day, and most manufacturers release product updates and new drivers all the time.
