[Flightgear-devel] FG core dump when running Concorde

2006-03-23 Thread Buchanan, Stuart
Hi All,

I'm getting a core dump when running with Concorde on an up to date
SimGear/FG/Data on Cygwin. I haven't managed to get anywhere in
determining the cause, but it appears to be different from the problems
reported under the Upcoming Release.

The meagre stack trace I generated is included below.

Are you bump-mapping the textures at run-time? If so, how?

I don't know if you already do this but I added a bit of bump mapping to

You might want to consider that too.

[Flightgear-devel] No Copyright notice in FlightGear source

2006-03-23 Thread Martin Spott
I was just looking after the different copyright notices that people
attach to their contributions related to the FlightGear project and
noticed, that there is no COPYING file in the FlightGear source tree.

Maybe someone could simply copy the one over from the base package -
not the Simgear tree as SimGear appears to be licensed under the LGPL,

Martin.

One more - any votes on keeping or removing the popup GPS ? I

Although the b1900d flies pretty nice, the stall behaviour is somewhat
strange - _and_ after a stall there's almost no chance to recover, even
if you are at high enough altitude. I have to admit that I'm not
completely sure and I don't want to blame innocent people, still I
suspect this is not a problem specific to the b1900d but to YASim
aircraft in general.

Regarding popups, I don't generally object to popups but I think there
always should be the possibility to control an instrument without
having to use popups. This is my personal opinion,

Thanks. Does the same issue apply to the c310?

 -Stuart

No - I've fixed that one too, I believe. During testing of the C310 in
JSBSim standalone mode, I had created an autopilot for that to fly between
waypoints. It's not completed, but the reference to it made its way into the
FlightGear C310 (my fault). I commented that out. It should fly, now, in
FlightGear. THe fixed version is in JSBSim CVS, but if you want to try it in
your setup, just comment out this line:

autopilot file=c310ap/

like this:

!--
autopilot file=c310ap/
--

I suppose this points out that it would be nice to have a version of the
config file that could work in multiple situations (JSBSim standalone,
FlightGear, etc.) - that is, conditional usage. I'm not sure how I'd do
that, yet, though.

Normally I would say, that the beauty of XML lies in the parser being
completely agnostic to the contents of the file (instead of it's
syntax). Ignoring unknown tags and attributes is easy.

But on the other hand this would rob us of useful typo and error catching.

FDM/JSBSim/JSBSim.hxx stores property pointers in SGPropertyNode*.
This doesn't guarantee that the nodes remain valid. Some other module
could theoretically remove one -- any Nasal scripting code could! --,
after which JSBSim would probably crash. The preferred way to store
node pointers is as SGPropertyNode_ptr. Those make sure that the node
remains valid until the last instance is deleted.

It doesn't seem to be a real problem here -- at least I couldn't
make fgfs crash by removing such nodes. Should still get changed,
though, unless I'm missing something. :-)

Thanks Ron!
I discovered my mistake after looking at the Concorde config for an hour.
The instrumentation config file has to be included inside the sim tags
otherwise the path tag is just treated as a property.
So there is a need for two instrumentation sections in a set file. One
inside the sim section and one outside the sim section.

TACAN is every bit as generic as DME or VOR. Every military aircraft
produced since about 1950 has had a TACAN set installed.

Sure, it's generic to military aircraft but does that mean that all civilian
aircraft in FG should have TACAN as well?
Why aircaft like the j3cub must have tacan, KT-70, wxradar, mk-viii by
default is beyond my reasoning capabilities. :)

And why are two nav radios and comms radios set up in the generic config and
not two dme devices? There are far more aircraft with dual DME devices than
there are aircraft with TACAN capabilities.

And then there is the mk-viii which should never have been added to the
generic config since it's used on a very small percentage of aircraft.

Regards
Paul

 one out of commission ?

It doesnt run , just says flightgear aborted no other errors.

Read the post from earlier today about the Concorde, Re: FG core dump
when running Concorde. You'll find the answer.

[Flightgear-devel] Citation Bravo

2006-03-23 Thread Julien Pierru
The Citation Bravo has a couple of broken instruments, the autopilot doesn't do anything when engaged and the fuel gauges do not show any fuel level at all. I am runnging CVS/HEAD as of 03/23/2006 20:44 GMT.

   There are apparently two reasons:
   (a) the concorde doesn't work with jsbsim 2.0 yet, and aborts
   (b) this crashes fgfs (but why?)

One could assume that it's because FDM/JSBSim.[ch]xx uses a lot of
  unguarded pointers to SGPropertyNode-s [...]

 Fixed.

And right that was the cause! Storage of a node pointer as
SGPropertyNode* instead of SGPropertyNode_ptr -- not in the
JSBSim code, but the panel code. It's just a question of time,
though, until the same bug in JSBSim bites us in the ass in
the same way. Please fix. (see attachment)

Thanks for the quick fix.

I copied over the aircraft and engine xml files from the JSBSim CVS, but
FG is still aborting - see below. Looks like some mismatch in the
JSBSim/FG interface, so I think I'll leave it for others with more
knowledge.

I will supply one for the Canberra and B-29. Also, somehow there are two
canberras in CVS right now, which I am sure will soon be fixed. You
might want to remove Canberra and leave CanberraBI8.

there is a rumour going on that the magnetic field of the earth is about to

The submodels were for testing, the throttle does not move yet at all.
The gauge should be the manifold pressure (ata), but it should definitly
increase the engine power. Are you unable to increase power?

In fact, I was unable to decrease it. Trying it a second time, it works, but it
was too subtle for me yesterday. In flight, at full idle, the engine seems to
always turn at the same rate, but I can see my speed decrease, so I presume it
has less thrust. The engine sound hardly change too ( I guess it is linked to
its rpms )
