The solution for this was to remove /usr/local/info/dir and the port
installed fine. Any ideas on why this happens?

Automake won't build.

2013-07-16 Thread Jason Garrett
Hello all,

I am configuring a new system to run FreeBSD. I was in the middle of
installing lxde-meta which depends on automake. This is where the install
bails, and I'll include my uname -ar. Any help is greatly appreciated.

install-info --quiet /usr/local/info/automake.info /usr/local/info/dir

 Setting FORCE_PKG_REGISTER in root's .cshrc did the trick, but I'm not sure
that was the best way of doing things.

openldap24-sasl-client preventing kde4 from installing

2011-07-08 Thread Jason Garrett
Even after I pkg_delete -f openldap-sasl-client* trying to compile kde4, or
in this case I narrowed it down to kdepimlibs4, I always end up with this.
How do I get myself out of this dependency?

===>>> Starting check for runtime dependencies
===>>> Gathering dependency list for net/openldap24-sasl-client from ports

===>>> Checking dependency: security/cyrus-sasl2

===>   Generating temporary packing list
===> Checking if net/openldap24-sasl-client already installed
===>   openldap-sasl-client-2.4.25_2 is already installed
  You may wish to ``make deinstall'' and install this port again
  by ``make reinstall'' to upgrade it properly.
  If you really wish to overwrite the old port of
net/openldap24-sasl-client
  without deleting it first, set the variable "FORCE_PKG_REGISTER"
  in your environment or the "make install" command line.

Compiling Linux into Kernel

I know the usual way of loading the linux module and configuring it in
rc.conf, but can it be compiled directly into the kernel?

If so, what would the line for it look like?

Re: Boot from RAIDZ in 8.0-BETA3?

2009-09-01 Thread Jason Garrett
IMHO, unless you have a NEED to do this with the 8-BETA's I would not
attempt. While I had this working in 8.0-BETA1 upon reboot I would loose
data from entire mountpoints on the root pool. First it was /usr/ports, not
a big deal. Then it was /var/db/pkg.. the system had no idea what was
installed and what wasn't. This was a test machine, so no harm, no foul. I
would definatley not recommend this AT ALL.

Just my 2 cents, YMMV, etc.

I wouldn't recommend using zfs at all right now, unless you want random
crashes and lots of missing data.. ESPECIALLY in 8.0,1,2 versions.

(Maybe)OT: Apache22 mod_rewrite question

2009-07-23 Thread Jason Garrett
I am starting up a wiki with moinmoin. Currently when I type in
http://mydomain.com it brings me to the main page and the browser shows
http://mydomain.com/moin.cgi.

When I click on a link from the front page, the browser displays
http://mydomain.com/moin.cgi/SearchedText

Basically, I want to remove the moin.cgi and just end up with this being
displayed http://mydomain.com/SearchedText. For a working example of what I
want, just go to http://wiki.freebsd.org.

Can this be done with mod_rewrite and/or with apache in general?

Re: Attempting ZFS Only Install of 7.2

2009-07-17 Thread Jason Garrett
I will post my exact steps around 1800 CDT, and probably put it up on
my webserve later on.

Do only @freebsd.org members have access to the FreeBSD wiki?

I'm posting from my bb at work so sorry if this top posts or messes
anything else up.

IT WORKS!!!

Step 8 was CRUCIAL to the setup. All along, following the guides, I was
doing this. The ONLY difference was after I built the loader with
LOADER_ZFS_SUPPORT=YES I did this step from /mnt2/boot/pmbr and
/mnt2/boot/gptzfsboot. One guide even had me do this first. This is the one
thing that made it work. I am now happy to be testing 8.0-BETA1 on my
machine.

I hope all of you stick around this thread since it was Drew's to begin
with.

Drew,

If you contact me off list, I can run down the steps I took to making this
work.

A BIG THANK YOU to all who posted and helped!

Top Post, I know... but has anyone on @current tried a full on ZFS on ROOT
with GPTZFSBOOT?

Both Drew and I have both tried the guide at
http://lulf.geeknest.org/blog/freebsd/Setting_up_a_zfs-only_system/ (dead
link now :( )

I get as far as the message I detailed before using parts from another
guide. I am hoping for both of us, that someone here knows even a little
bit.

Ok, now a few days later and still frustrated. Basically I narrowed my
install down to one drive, divided up with gpt. I used a few sections from
http://wiki.freebsd.org/ZFSOnRootWithZFSboot - specifially the section on
installing the sources from /dist/8.0-BETA1 as well as rebuilding the loader
as this guide says.

I actually got it to load the kernel, goes through that ok. As soon as it
tries to mount the root filesystem, it hangs with the following messages.
(Won't respond to the keyboard anymore)

---

Trying to mount root from zfs:zroot
ROOT MOUNT ERROR:
If you have invalid mount options, reboot, and first try the following from
the loader prompt:

set vfs.root.mountfrom.options=rw (did this,no luck.. also
switched to an /etc/fstab layout, still no go)

and then remove the invalid mount options from /etc/fstab.

Loader Variables:
vfs.root.mountfrom=zfs:zroot
vfs.root.mountfrom.options=rw,noatime (this is from the /etc/fstab attempt)

--

Then it describes some specifications on how to use the :.

I just don't get how some are getting this working, yet it comes so hard for
others.

Drew, I hope you have had better luck than I. I may just give up until it is
a viable solution.

I would recommend ejabberd, and I didn't even know there was a 2
version out. We used ejabberd successfully in the past.

My relevant lines from pf.conf. Only one lan and one wan. Currently working
great.

ext_if = "fxp0"
int_if = "fxp1"
localnet = $int_if:network
nat on $ext_if from $localnet to any -> ($ext_if)
pass from { lo0, $localnet } to any keep state

nss_ldap wants openldap 2.3.41 - have 2.4.8

2008-03-04 Thread Jason Garrett
This is most likely a dumb question, but how do I tell ports to build
nss_ldap against openldap-2.4.8?

The build of nss_ldap fails with conflicts.

===>  Installing for openldap-client-2.3.41

===>  openldap-client-2.3.41 conflicts with installed package(s):
  openldap-client-2.4.8

  They install files into the same place.
  Please remove them first with pkg_delete(1).
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/ports/net/openldap23-client.
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/ports/net/nss_ldap.

WANT_OPENLDAP_VER=24

worked in /etc/make.conf

Are you running apache-1.3? I am, but the examples the jwchat
site has are for v2 of apache. I finally used the
example, put it into the apache httpd.conf and I finally
stopped getting a 404  err.

The jabber daemon:: *yes*. A few hours ago I found the FAQ
pages on the ejabberd site and realized I needed not only to
add/modify several strings but uncomment them. "%" isn't
normally used as a comment token.

JWchat looks like it'll serve well ... if I ever get the
bloody thing set up!

thanks for your help,

gary

PS: the chap who was helping me via message board has to think
i'm a moron ... won't be the 1st time:-)

Gary,

I am using apache 2.x. I have only used apache 1.3 one time and am
unsure of syntax/module differences, however I will post my relevant
parts of httpd.conf and config.js

Apache:

 ServerName chat.bogus.tld
 DocumentRoot /usr/local/www/jwchat

   Options  +Indexes +Multiviews

 AddDefaultCharset UTF-8
 RewriteEngine on
 RewriteRule http-poll/ http://bogus.tld:5280/http-poll/ [P]

Please note that here I had trouble while the jabber server and jwchat
were resolving to the same domain, ex bogus.tld. They have to be
seperate, at least from what I have tried.

/usr/local/www/jwchat/config.js

var SITENAME = "bogus.tld"
var DEFAULTRESOURCE = "jwchat";

var BACKENDS =
[
   {
   name:"Ejabberd",
   description:"Ejabberd's native HTTP Polling backend",
   httpbase:"http-poll/",
   type:"polling",
   servers_allowed:[SITENAME]
   },
];

I hope this sheds some light, even though I am using apache 2.x.

Also I had to have mod_rewrite and mod_proxy compiled in and enabled,
not sure on how to do this with apache 1.3, maybe someone more
familiar with 1.3 can chime in on those modules.

when I point mozilla at "sage.thought.org/jwchat/ it takes quite

Anybody??

gary

PS: From looking at the apache logs, it looks like things are
 going

http://jwchat.sourceforge.net is where I started from and had a
succesful install within a day or so. It took some crafty apache
config sections but all in all it wasnt bad. Make sure you have a
jabber server though!
