have you run freevo tv_grab from a terminal to read the output (mine can

and checked the format in your TV.xml?

The dates in your TV.xml look as if they are incorrect they should be in
 the form:
 date=20080130130002 +0100
 and not
 date=20080130130002

 Duncan

yes, and I have had this problem myself, where the grabber we are using
doesn't put the information correctly
Jason needs to check the whole process and find where the time offset
disappears to track down the trouble

On another note, with 1.8 out soon, there's only 1.9 left before you run
into 2.0, and it seems likely that you're going to catch up to us before
we release. So you might need to rethink the versioning :)

The TV channels should be shown in the order of the TV_CHANNELS from

is sorted so that the programme list is in chronological order.

[Freevo-users] Tweaking a specific channel frequency?

2008-02-01 Thread Michael Labowicz
I'm experiencing some issues with my channel 5 (NBC) on my Freevo install (
1.7.3) after switching it to analog cable (us-cable-hrc) from broadcast
(us-bcast). I reconfigured and updated my listings from schedule direct,
and the other channels are working fine. My TV picks it up fine, but when I
try to view it or record it, this particular channel is incredibly fuzzy.
I'm thinking its a problem with a frequency specified in my TV.xml file. Is
there any way to tweak this value in the local_config.py file?

For reference here is the channel listing from my TV_CHANNELS variable: ( '
I11670.labs.zap2it.com', '5 WMAQ', '5' )

[Freevo-users] dvb question

2008-02-01 Thread Alberto Hernando
Hi.

I have a dvb related question. Not directly related to freevo, but, depending
on the answer, it might be in the future. I'm doing this question here
because some people might now and, who knows, depending on the country it
might be important.

My question is about dvb-t, the standard behind digital terrestril tv, the new
tv in Europe. In every analog channel, there is a stream containing up to 4
digital channels (that is, audio+video, what you see), and perhaps some data
or some more audio channels. It is an mpeg2 strean, and the cards used in
computers can tune a channel, extract the stream and decode it. So, the
question:

What if the stream isn't in mpeg2 but in mpeg4 (for example)? I think that, at
least in Spain, some tests have been done to increase quality with the same
bitrate. What I want to know is if the same cards will work in this case.
Will they still capture the stream and let the cpu (mplayer rocks) decode it?
Or the signal will just be ignored? The modulation won't change, so the card
should see the signal and, at least, the receiver should see the bitstream,
but if someone knows for sure, I'd like to know. It would be great to know
that even if dvb-t changes this, we won't need a new receiver.

Alberto

You can set up a frequency mapping list in local_conf.py, I'm sure the
wiki or freevo_conf.py has something on that. Otherwise it might just be
easier if it's for one channel to edit freq.py but this might get
replaced if you update your install.

Xine was eating the CPU, but the odd thing is that I ran my standalone
test command as the same user I run freevo with (root, yes I know but it
is fire-walled off from the world).

I have no idea what is causing the problem, but I'm giving up and
reverting to 1.7.2 which I was running before with no problems, I will
do that tomorrow evening. I have literally changed nothing else between
installs, only freevo has changed, but my media centre is now a mess,
crashing on playback of video, not recording correctly etc.

I will report back if reverting to 1.7.2 helps, or if this is just a
co-incidence and something else happens to have failed / started failing
at the same time :) If reverting doesn't work at least I will know for
sure that something other than freevo is broken.

I've been testing this but the CPU usage of xine is not affected by freevo.

Using a matrox G400DH the CPU usage is about 80% with or without freevo
running.

The only thing that I can think of is that freevo is using more memory
and you have just gone over the top of the physical memory. You can
check this with Dag Wieers' dstat or vmstat program.

What you can do is a testing install, using the howto in the wiki and

Hi Tanja,

I don't really know about DVB-T and you also mentioned that you do not have a
full featured card, but maybe we could give it a try like this:

1. install/ compile or whatever infosatepg
2. create some directory to put the data in
3. use szap or something like this to tune the arte transponder
4. start infsatepg like...
./infosatepg -o data-directory
5. Wait...

After a few seconds, you should see a picture like this

Received 21 of 1575 data blocks [ 1.33%]
1 DAY 01.02 [ 21/475]
___6#~__
2 DAY 02.02 [---/380]
3 DAY 03.02 [---/320]
4 DAY 04.02 [---/100] _
5 DAY 05.02 [---/100] _
6 DAY 06.02 [---/100] _
7 DAY 07.02 [---/100] _

...the lines filling with # over the time.

If this should not work, the epg might be on a different pid. In this case, we
might come somewhere with a pidscan: Tune into the arte transponder and use
dvbsnoop with...
dvbsnoop -s pidscan
This will need a while to finish, but it should create all the pids in the
arte transponder. The lines we're looking for look something like this:
PID found: 1809 (0x0711) [SECTION: DSM-CC - private data section //
DVB
datagram]
...only that it probably is not pid 1809. Take the pid in that line, open
main.cpp in the source of infosatepg and find the line
int pid=1809;
Change the pid to the one from the pidscan and try again...

I must confess that I really don't know if it works. I just assume that the
data format is the same for DVB-S and DVB-T and that we just need to find the
correct stream...

Regards,
Thorsten

[Freevo-users] XMLTV for Germany: tvm2vdr and tvm2xml

2008-02-01 Thread Thorsten Pferdekämper
Hi folks,

last year (ok, it was the last day of last year...), I have started a thread
about tv_grab_de_tvtoday and which grabbers are used by german freevo users.
I've done some investigation and came to the following solution to grab data
from tvtoday (and maybe other providers):

1. Install and configure tvm2vdr from here:
http://steckrue.be/tvm2vdr/
In the channels_wanted.pl, set tvtoday as provider I have not really
tested
other providers.

2. Apply the patch from the diff file attached to this mail.

3. Make sure that the line for Pro7 in channels.pl looks like this:
@chan{prosieben.de}=
[S19.2E-1-1107-17501, 006 ,22  ,Pro7 ,40,pro7,,PRO7];
(For 2. and 3., I've already contacted the developer of tvm2vdr in order to
change it.)

4. Copy tvm2xml.pl (see attachment) to the tvm2vdr directory.
(I have copied this program from here: http://mythtv.linux-dude.de/
and changed it to be independent from myth and to create xmltv files
which
freevo understand.)

5. run tvm2xml.pl
If everything was configured correctly, this should create a file named
epg.data. Copy this file to the usual TV.xml...

I know that this is far from being out of the box, but at least it works and
it creates quite proper data.

I am not really sure if this helps. If someone is interested, I could try to
add what I've found out to the wiki...

Cheers,
Thorsten

Re: [Freevo-users] dvb question

 Hi.

I have a dvb related question. Not directly related to freevo, but,
depending on the answer, it might be in the future. I'm doing this question
here because some people might now and, who knows, depending on the country
 it might be important.

My question is about dvb-t, the standard behind digital terrestril tv, the
new tv in Europe. In every analog channel, there is a stream containing up
to 4 digital channels (that is, audio+video, what you see), and perhaps
some data or some more audio channels. It is an mpeg2 strean, and the cards
used in computers can tune a channel, extract the stream and decode it. So,
 the question:

What if the stream isn't in mpeg2 but in mpeg4 (for example)? I think that,
at least in Spain, some tests have been done to increase quality with the
same bitrate. What I want to know is if the same cards will work in this
case. Will they still capture the stream and let the cpu (mplayer rocks)
decode it? Or the signal will just be ignored? The modulation won't change,
so the card should see the signal and, at least, the receiver should see
the bitstream, but if someone knows for sure, I'd like to know. It would be
great to know that even if dvb-t changes this, we won't need a new
 receiver.

Hi,

I don't know about all the DVB cards, but according to what I know about the
mpeg2 definition, there is quite a difference between the transport stream
and the elementary streams. The transport stream of DVB-S/T/C/H should always
refer to the mpeg2 specification. However, the single elementary streams
embedded in such a transport stream can have multiple formats, like mpeg2,
mpeg4, different audio formats and even private data formats with special
provider dependend coding (like e.g. the infosat epg). I.e. the mpeg4 only is
about the format of the elementary stream.
A (full featured?) DVB-card seems only to do the tuning into one transponder
(bouquet) and (maybe) filter which elementary streams to send (by the id of
the elementary stream). The decoding of these elementary streams is done by
software like mplayer.
At the end, I am pretty sure that mplayer can play this.

On the other hand, there is HDTV (where I do not really believe that HDTV is
transmitted via DVB-T). It seems that for HDTV, a higher bandwidth is used
and you need special receivers.

Just my 2c...
Regards,
Thorsten

Memory is a very good suggestion, I have reverted back to 1.7.1 and this
seems more stable and my wife was able to use the media centre to watch
several programs today without the media centre crashing. I have noticed
that xine playback now uses less CPU than before and playback is more
reliable and responsive.

The machine does have very little memory, only 128meg, I might have to
see if I can find some budget for more ram (I need low profile ram to
fit in my case). And see if more memory helps. For now I have a much
happier 1.7.1 install. I forward ported some of the changes, such as the
tv_guide cElementTree for python 2.5 fix so it is still nicer than before :)

Cheers.

If you have modded the script you will get caught by the autoupdating and
 when
someone rewrites augment_timezone, you will crash again.

I swear mine works on --timeoffset=Auto

this must refer to absence of tv guide

i did notice that rex always complained about --timeoffset=auto and
thus the reason for the short fix :)

rex does complain, but I'm a parent and deaf to complaints
 anyway it does work here...

Re: [Freevo-users] dvb question

2008-02-01 Thread Adam Charrett

 Hi.

I have a dvb related question. Not directly related to freevo, but, depending
on the answer, it might be in the future. I'm doing this question here
because some people might now and, who knows, depending on the country it
 might be important.

My question is about dvb-t, the standard behind digital terrestril tv, the
 new
tv in Europe.

I think that,
 at
least in Spain, some tests have been done to increase quality with the same

 Alberto

To answer your question Alberto, no you won't need a new card to receive
the new MPEG4 channels. To be more specific, DVB-T current specifies the
use of MPEG2 to encode the Video and Audio (with AC-3 also being
allowed). This encoded video/audio is carried in an MPEG2 transport
stream, this is used even if the video is MPEG4 encoded. The information
in the MPEG2 transport streams allows the decoder to pick the right
codec be that MPEG2 video or MPEG4.

Of course once DVB-T2 starts to be transmitted, then you might need a
new card, but it hasn't even been drafted yet.

Cheers

Adam

 Hey

Hi,

My recordserver crashes on startup. I'm using latest kaa freevo
1x. I tried going back with both to earlier
version of svn(2970 of kaa 10300 of freevo so far) . any ideas what is
 wrong?

...

 kaa.main.select_notifier('twisted_experimental')
   File /usr/lib64/python2.5/site-packages/kaa/notifier/main.py, line

 return notifier.init( module, **options )
   File /usr/lib64/python2.5/site-packages/kaa/notifier/nf_wrapper.py,
 line 185, in init
 notifier.init(getattr(notifier, module.upper()), **options)
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'TWISTED'

Do you have pynotifier installed (not the one that is inside kaa)? I
think there may be a bug where if the real pynotifier is on the system
then that is what's used instead of the one in kaa, even if kaa has
something it doesn't (like nf_twisted.py - well the next version should).
