I suppose the upside to DVB-T is, if your DSL is down, you can still watch
Television.. and if its HDTV, you get amazing picture/sound quality anyway..
 The High Definition DVB-T streams i get in Australia are 1920x1080 or
something ridiculously high, with 5.1 channel surround sound..heh

Although i only have experience with DVB-T, it was easy to get working under
linux, and therefore freevo.

Ok, do the following.

plugin.activate('audio.mplayervis')
you will also need to install pygoom (http://freevo.sf.net/pygoom/)

i now use the following for my DVB-T recordings..

VCR_CMD = 'mencoder' + ' -oac copy -ovc copy -o %(filename)s -of mpeg
-mpegopts format=dvd "dvb://%(channel)s"'

This has the benefits of giving the resulting file a 'length' that freevo can
determine (so you can then use the bmovl plugin if you wish, or, so you know
how long a file is, time wise), and also the benefit of a file that can
easily (and quickly) be burnt to DVD. I will work out how to write plugins
one day soon, as my aim is to be able to burn a recording off to DVD with a
few button presses on my remote (So if a friend goes 'oh i like that
show/movie' i can burn it in minutes.).

Kaffeine does timeshifting, but it depends on a few KDE libs etc to compile, so
its probably not a valid option..heh

Travis.

I use the following command for VCR_CMD in local_conf.py
VCR_CMD = 'mencoder' + ' -oac copy -ovc copy -o %(filename)s -of mpeg
"dvb://%(channel)s"'

This just tells mencoder to dump the stream to an mpeg2 file as such, with no
re-encoding. This makes for pretty large files, but hard disk space is cheap
these days, and i dont keep most of the recordings for a long period of time.

I have Twinhan VisionPlus DVB-T cards in my P4 2.66Ghz and Sempron 2400+. Both
systems watch live tv, and record tv just fine, with full smooth motion, and
excellent signal quality. I wouldnt know there performance in windows though, as
i dont have it.

Im in the same boat, and, as far as i know, Timeshifting for DVB is still a work
in progress. Apparently xine's timeshifting code is certain input plugins, and
not a seperate lib as such. Id check here, or the IRC channel from time to time
for updates, as im keen to get this working too.

use 'freevo recordserver start' to start the record server..
if you want to use the webserver aswell (to schedule recordings etc from a web
page) just enable the www plugin from within local_conf.py . That will tell
freevo to load the webserver, when you start freevo.
