Re: Install OS 9 on G4 867?

perfect to carry on the road.

I was expecting to be able to boot my new G4 into OS 9, but when I
select
start up disk there's no OS 9 folder. The system does run Classic
Environment,
but will not boot to OS 9.

So, is it possible to install OS 9 on this new PowerBook? I have a
copy of the
OX 9.1 disk that came with my OS X install disks when I upgraded all
the
office desktops. Also have the PowerBook restore disks, but that
doesn't seem
to have OS 9 on them, unless I just looked in the wrong place.
I have a TiPB 867 purchased Jan 2003. The Software Install and Restore
disk [a DVD] has OS 9.2.2 on it. Maybe you were given the incorrect
Software Restore disk?

OT: Windows Media Player on Website incompatibilities

2003-10-08 Thread Michael J. Granado
Hello,

Using my pismo to websurf and every time I try to view video links
requiring windows media player, it doesn't work. The frustrating part
is that they are on commonly used websites like espn, cnet, etc. I've
already checked out www.mactopia.com for the latest version of WMP for
OS X, but still doesn't improve compatibility. Am I the only one? Any
comments would be most appreciated.

Modem/Phone Help

2003-10-08 Thread Kyle Hansen
Does anyone else out there have a Sprint PCS Vision phone that they are
using as a portable modem for their laptop? I have a Sanyo 5300 and my new
Albook 17 sees the phone and allows me to select it as a modem, but it
won't connect. I *know* that it will work with this phone, because I have
seen it done. Help if you can.

It could be that the stuff you are trying to view is encoded with
Windows Media Player 9, which the latest OS X viewer cannot, to my
knowledge, decode as of yet.

It has something to do with the file handlers under your browser. I
can't view any WMP streams/files in Safari or Mozilla, but I can see
them just fine with IE 5.5.

Re: Stuffit 8.0

2003-10-08 Thread Scott Crick

We have had a minor computer crisis here in the iBook home. At the
repeated urging of Stuffit, we upgraded to 8.0, only to find that
programs and upgrades unstuffed with it do not run. Aladdin says that
this is because Apple told them to do that and they offer a work-around
that does not so far work for us. This is bizarre. Stuffit Expander is a
key piece of software. What is your experience with this. Bye-the-way,
I would definitely not recommend upgrading to 8.

Aladdin has released an update that fixes this problem. Stuffit Engine 8.0.1
can be downloaded from http://www.stuffit.com/mac/deluxe/updates.html.

And, yes, Apple did ask them to make this change. Stuffit 8 is doing things
the way they SHOULD have ALWAYS been done. Stuffit 7 and before were doing
it wrong. But, since we are used to the way it has always worked (wrong or
not), we expect it to work the same in Stuffit 8.

As I said before, the update reverts to the older behavior. But, what is
really needed is for providers that provide software in stuffed format to
use the new .sitx format and not the older .sit format.

Sincerely,

Scott

Re: OT: Windows Media Player on Website incompatibilities

2003-10-08 Thread John Beringer
Sorry all,
But I was able to view video streams on espn using Safari and having WMP 7.1
on my machine. How about:
1. checking the Safari plugins
2. if no change - reinstalling WMP so that it can reinstall the plugin
