at the top of that page and then "PCI/MiniPCI/CardBus" under the

Direct link is
 http://ralinktech.com/drivers/Mac/CardBusWirelessDriver.zip
It says it's for 10.x on a G4 Titanium - works for me with 10.2.8 &
Wallstreet.

Nice flat form factor.
Though if I'd known I was going to use a 3rd-party driver (instead of
Airport) I would have looked into a card that has drivers under both OS
9 & X.

Yay! I found the driver, and though it claims only to work with the G4
Titanium, it worked for my Wallstreet. Phew, I was afraid Belkin
changed to a chipset with no OS X driver!! Though it would be more
elegant to use Airport, as long as it works I'm happy.

I sent an email to Belkin tech at the same time as this list, and
according to the autoresponse they'll get back to me typically in 2
business days - I'm sure glad this community is out there!

BTW, I don't know if this is new or the same as before - I see the pic
on Belkin's site looks a bit different but don't know how the sizes
actually compare - but this card is a great shape - it's flat so it
fits in the lower slot under my big USB card. I know some wireless
cards won't do that.

And I'm sorry I missed the earlier post(s) on the subject, so please
forgive the duplicate post. Guess maybe it was before I started
card-shopping (I'd been putting it off until I saw this one on dealmac)
so I didn't know it would affect me & skipped the thread! So much for
my feeble attempt to keep extraneous info from stuffing my brain.

Have you tried to run Disk Utility to repair permissions? Have you checked
the console log file for clues as to why applications are quitting?

Challenge and Response Clarification

2004-11-19 Thread Dan Knight
In response to some emails received since yesterday's posting, I've
updated the list FAQ to specifically state that our objection is to
"challenge and response" anti-spam services used to filter messages from
the list. This doesn't apply to individual off-list correspondence.

New text:

"What about anti-spam services?

"We already take the steps necessary to keep spam off our lists. Whatever
filtering you do with your email software and your email service is up to
you.

"That said, we take a dim view of anti-spam services such as Spam Arrest
and Cashette that require the sender of a message to respond to a message
from the anti-spam service (a 'challenge and response' system) before
allowing the recipient to receive the posting. Such a service
inconveniences anyone who posts to the list and is unnecessary.

"These are all closed lists, so there is no spam. Only those who have
requested a subscription and confirmed their subscription are allowed to
post. Please don't inconvenience our members by asking them to jump
through hoops to keep your mailbox spam free.

"Any subscriber using this kind of anti-spam service for list messages
will receive one warning and be temporarily blocked from posting to the
list. If the situation is not resolved quickly, the subscriber will be
banned. The burden should be on the spammers, not innocent list members.

"Note that this applies specifically to list messages, not to individual
correspondence with list members."

That's the updated chipset that needs the drivers from Belkin.
My original card Ids itself as a Broadcom 802.11g CardBus card.
Contact Belkin and they'll direct you to the download.

I haven't checked any PC card in my PowerBook, so I can't really tell if
what should appear is the chipset of the card in the PC menu.

That being said, I would think that your computer is working fine since it
recognizes all other types of cards. I would imagine that the card is also
working fine since it seems to communicate with the system correctly.

So, that leaves us with the incompatible chipset. I thought that someone
posted this week about a similar problem, where they bought a Belkin
thinking they would get a compatible card but they got a revision which used
a different chipset, thus making the card incompatible without a 3rd party
driver...

Wallstreet not seeing Belkin wireless card

2004-11-19 Thread Anne Judge
After saying I would for months, I just upgraded my Wallstreet (466,
384MB RAM, 20gig HD) to 10.2.8 in the hopes of making it my kitchen
recipe/internet radio computer. (No disaster if I spill that soup on
it! - at least not compared to if I did the same on my PB G4 17".)

I got a Belkin F5D7010 802.11g PC card that's supposed to work with
10.2.8 & Airport 3.1.1 (according to the product's web page) - which I
have installed.

But it's not seeing it!!! Other cards (CF & SM readers, USB) work in
both my PC card slots.

My understanding is that this card should work because it's using a
Broadcom chipset. But when I pull down the PC card menu that appears
when it's in, it says:

 Ralink Technology Inc.
 RT2500
Which seems to be the name of a maker of a different chipset. Is this
my problem? Did Belkin switch suppliers on me?

Or is this normal and there's something wrong with my card, my
computer, or my install?

I know at least one other person here is using this wireless card (or
at least a Belkin one), so maybe he/she/they can check and see if what
I'm seeing is normal.

Thanks for any help!
