No specific suggestions, but you might want to search the archives of a couple of Apple lists: Scitech - http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/scitech Unix-porting - http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/unix-porting (I know you're not porting from unix but a lot of compiler discussions come up there.) The adapter is ok, but when plugged in the iBook doesn't run, even if it was running fine on battery when it was plugged in... ??? Larry Well when that happened to my 3400 I just had to solder the contacts where the power adapter plugs in to the logic board. ...but... I don't know if I'd recommend taking apart an icebook that far. I had a G3/800 iBook that had the logic board failure after the one year warrenty ended but before they issued the recall. Before the iBook I never bothered getting Apple Care because I fixed anything that went wrong myself. I had never totally disassembled an icebook so figured since it was dead I might as well give it a shot. Ended up having to drill and use an easy out on the bottom middle screw on it which though it worked left obvious scuffing. After tearing that thing apart I promptly ordered a new G4 iBook and got the Apple Care. I didn't even bother attempting to put that sucker back together. I just shrinkwrapped all the screws and parts in case I ever got another one and needed a battery, keyboard, display or other items that would be easily replacable. Of course then a month later Apple does the recall and it now covers my shrink wrapped bundle of G3 iBook. By that time I was humming along nicely on my G4 iBook and didn't want to attempt to put that jigsaw puzzle back together again. I'm die hard Apple Care now with the newer stuff. Tom, I think I can at least help you solve your problem. I'm willing to bet that you replaced your H.D. with a IBM/Hitachi drive. That's not the only brand that has caused sleep problems in the Wallstreet, but it's one of the most infamous. The problem is a magnet within the drive that lines up with and confuses the magnetic sleep sensor located on the Wallstreet in the area between the Delete and Return keys. Thus the wakeup problems with the PB. Once you understand the problem, the solution is fairly simple. In fact, there are 2 or 3 solutions. You have discovered one of them -- the kitchen magnet swipe. But that's a pain the butt IMPO. I prefer a more permanent solution. I have a Wallstreet with a 40Gb IBM/Hitachi drive installed and it has the won't wake from sleep problem. I use a simple fix. I open the lid and rotate the laptop about it's vertical axis while tapping the shift key. Would that be clock-wise or counter clock-wise? The magnet is just barely holding the lid sensor in the closed state, changing the polarity of the Earth's magnetic field is enough to clear the sensor. When do you sacrifice the live chicken? bg I guess I'm out of touch. After the one-time tape solution, I just press the shift key and it wakes right up. Re: Lombard and OSX?
Rad Craig [EMAIL PROTECTED] asks: I am looking at buying a Lombard to replace my Wallstreet so I can run OSX without problems. I don't have very much info on this laptop and am trying to find the specs on it. He said it was an m5343, so I believe it's a Lombard. It's a 400mhz. I have been trying to find the complete specs on Apple, but don't know which one it is, they show a bronze and a firewire for this speed, how do I tell which one this is? Will OSX run without problems on this machine? I've had nothing but problems running it...or attempting to run it on my Wallstreet. Easiest way distinguish between Pismo and Lombard is to read the name printed on the screen bezel. If just PowerBook then it's a Pismo, otherwise it's a Lombard. A 400 Lombard can run any version of X (so far), the later the better. dan k . http://macdan.n3.net/ carracho://dankephoto.dhs.org:9700 hotline://dankephoto.dhs.org:9500 . -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... The National Enquirer reports at 4:30 PM -0600 11/25/04, Rad Craig wrote: I got 10.2.8 to run on my Wallstreet, it had it on there when I got it, but didn't come with the CD, but it was VERY flaky, lots of mysterious lockups (couple times a day) and other problems. I thought I'd blow it away, do a clean install with 10.3 and perhaps solve the problems, but I have never gotten it to finish the install. I've tried it probably 30+ times with 4 different XPF versions. Just for the heck of it, I wonder how much memory you had in your Wallstreet, and whether you tried any different mem0ry modules in it? OS 9 was picker about memory quality than OS 8.5/6 was, and OS 10.2.x was picker than OS 9. I've recently run across some reports that 10.3.x is even more strict when it comes to memory quality. It's possible to run into install problems if the memory is not up to snuff. I know I'm a day late and a dollar (or $275 g) short. But just for any future consideration. AlBook Wacom Graphire @ startup ???
I have an AlBook (1GHz) with a Wacom Graphire II here at work and some days when I come in and switch it on the graphics tablet doesn't work forcing me to restart. How come it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't even though everything is left plugged in and unchanged ??? It's a USB device plugged into the left hand port and no other USB devices are connected.
