This sounds a little bit like dirty or bad contacts. You would have to take
the Wallstreet apart to get to the DC charge board, I think, just underneath
the palm rest. It might also be the Power Management Unit. And, it looks
like you PRAM battery is dead or is not charging.

Issue with G3 Wallstreet

2005-04-06 Thread Nima
I have this G3 Wallstreet with battery issues. The battery is not dead
because I got a brand new one and a separate charger--I can charge the
battery and see the machine recognize it and use the charge, but it
won't recharge the battery.

When I turn off the computer, it remembers all the settings and what
not, so long as either it is plugged in or a charged battery is
installed. Otherwise, it is as if I have reset the PRAM.

Anyone know what part I need to change to solve the problem? Thanks!

Cliff & Kristina,
It sounds like Cliff's ISP uses the Motorola Canopy WiMax system. I
just signed up with a local ISP that is fielding it here in my area
of California; the install is in a couple of weeks. When they were
testing to see the signal strength, the connection speed was around
450 Kbps, IIRC, much better than my 28.8 Kbps connection on dial-up,
and this was 13.8 miles from their access point on Boomer Mountain.

Cliff, does anything on this site look familiar?

Yeah, I tried all that and more. I am going to call the seller and see
if there is anything he can do. I've pretty much resolved to get a
combo drive replacement. Thanks though. I hope the combo drive in my
G4 Ti 667 does not have the same problems.

Thanks for your help everyone. I think getting a new drive will be the
cheapest least frustrating solution.

Re: Pismo DVD

2005-04-06 Thread John Roberts
The later model G3 books and earlier model G4 books are notorious for
not mounting CD/DVDs. I have the first G4, ("Mercury"), and I'm
currently on my third drive. The consensus in the discussion forums on
Apple's website is that there is an OS or firmware problem in the
computers. People have been yelling at Apple about this for years.

Try resetting the computer, with power off, by pushing that little
button on the back edge. If that fails, try resetting parameter RAM,
which I forget how to do.

I don't know know what kind of a budget you have, but I'm working on a big
project right now, where I'm digitalizing hundreds of 12" singles, and DJ
Cassette Mix tapes. I set up a G5 with Bias Peak, SoundSoap Pro, Roxio Toast

then use Peak and SoundSoap Pro to clean up the audio. From there I use Jam
to master the CD's. This is on the high end of what your probably looking

Re: Recording records/tapes

2005-04-06 Thread Keith Johnson
Hector brings up a good point. I haven't used audacity, but Sound
Studio allows you to go back and try to tune up the sound files with
equalizers, filters, etc. You can also do stuff like reverse the file
(listen to those Beatle songs and hear John say "turn me on, dead
man").

CD Spin Doctor has a good pop/click filter if you record 78s (like I
do). It came with Toast, but it was real buggy and the upgrade wasn't
free, so I stopped using it. If what Hector says (it's free) is
correct, I'll have to try it again.

Re: Recording records/tapes

2005-04-06 Thread Hector I . Macedo
Hi Chris, I have recorded my old LPs by using Griffin Technology's
"iMic" and Audacity or Sound Studio, which permit you to filter
extraneous noice and other filters. You could also use any other music
program like Final Vinyl or CD Spin Doctor (this last two are free)
but with less controls.
I will start transfering my tapes pretty soon.

You will also need an adaptor from the record player or tape player
Victor plugs to the 1/8 stereo in the iMic.

I use Sound Studio . It's
very easy to use, and if you record an album side, it's easy to split
the recording up (find the start and end points for the song, then
"save as"). The resulting file is an aiff file, which will be quite
large, but you can them reduce that to mp3 or AAC. If you use iTunes,
import the aiff file, then select it and use the "convert to AAC" menu
to reduce the file size.

Griffin's iMic is an easy way to get your stereo's line input to into
your mac. Recording through USB is supposed to be superior than the
built-in sound input on your Mac.

If you're recording from vinyl, you'll need to pass through the preamp
part of your receiver or amplifier. The easiest way to do this is by
connecting cables from the tape output of your receiver or amp.

This is a pretty inexpensive way to import your tapes and vinyl
collection. It's time-consuming, because you have to do it at real
time. No quick ripping an MP3 file here!

If you need any help, keep asking!
Cheers,
Keith Johnson

I have gotten good bateries from APC (it took three times) and from

Eagle imports is on ebay with better prices than from there web site.

I will buy from both again.

I am satified with both batteries.

Do you need a PRAM battery?
