MacTheRipper

2005-09-08 Thread Henry Taylor
I've downloaded MacTheRipper to rip a DVD (Spaceballs) to shrink and
put on my T3, but the app keeps crashing (MacTheRipper has
unexpectedly quit). I've reinstalled, run repair permissions,
rebooted, nothing seems to help. Any advice?
My specs are G3 700 iBook, 684 ram, OS10.3.9, to a Sony DVD RW
DW-U18A firewire external device.

With the process of de-encrypting the DVD, are you sure that it doesn't

Re: MacTheRipper

2005-09-08 Thread PeterH5322

With the process of de-encrypting the DVD, are you sure that it doesn't
require a G4? Just wondering...

Works on a G3.

All my Mac The Ripping is done on a G3/450 Blue and White, and it and
Roxio Popcorn have never made a coaster.

However, the same suite on my G3/400 Pismo has never made a playable DVD.
Nor on my Lombard, either.

Lots has to do with the performance of the DVD drive, and the DVD drives
I use all state that best performance is achieved when using a
80-wire/40-pin cable to the host computer, even though the drive many not
be Ultra DMA, and the second EIDE/UATA bus on the Blue and White is only
capable of multiword accesses and not true Ultra DMA accesses, anyway.
However, Apple DID provide that second bus with an 80-wire/40-pin cable,
even though it, apparently, wasn't technically required.

I am of the opinion that the simplified wiring within certain PowerBooks
may not be noise-free enough for successful DVD burning.

Data Recovery Service?

2005-09-08 Thread Laurent Daudelin
I have a friend who brought me her PowerMac with a failing hard drive. I've
tried with Disk Utility and Disk Warrior to see if I could try to recover
something from it but the drive doesn't even show up.

So, I mentioned to her that there are data recovery companies that can
recover most of damaged hard drives. I told her it could be very expensive
but she's very wealthy.

So, I've heard a few times about DriveSavers but are there any other
companies that people used with success?

Thanks!

importing bookmarks from Netscape to Safari?

2005-09-08 Thread Andrew in Ann Arbor
I'm starting to know my way around Panther (10.3.9) on my Lombard but I
can't figure out how to import my bookmarks.
I''ve got my Netscape 7 mail imported into Mail but I can't figure out
how to import the bookmarks.
I missed the chance to import when I first started out and now the only
suggestion is to import the links one at a time.

Is there a utility that will import bookmarks for me?
Maybe I need a newer version of Safari, I've got 1.3 (v312) now?

Thanks

Re: MacTheRipper

2005-09-08 Thread PeterH5322

I don't think it is that. I can rip fine with my G3 ibook 600.

I can rip with a Wallstreet, a Lombard, and a Pismo. All day and all
night. 100 percent success.

I cannot successfully burn a usable disk in any of those, however, and
the drive is fully supported with PatchBurn, as necessary, and by
Popcorn. Both of them (Panasonic UJ-845 and Pioneer DVR-K05).

The failure usually occurs after the first chapter (which is often the
FBI warning) has been successfully burned.

No problem, ever, in my BW G3/450.

Look for some utilities on VersionTracker that will let you re-import your
bookmarks again the next time you launch Safari. I don't remember what
hidden setting it is but a few utilities can reset it.

Re: Data Recovery Service?

2005-09-08 Thread John Slavin

You might also look into couple of software options:

Data Rescue X from Prosoft:

http://www.prosofteng.com/

and File Salvage from SubRosaSoft:

http://www.subrosasoft.com/MacSoftware/index.php?
main_page=product_infocPath=1products_id=1

I've never really used either, although I did download a Data Rescue
X demo. There is a limitation on how many files it will retrieve in
demo mode. I had a hard drive that had failed and the utilities you
mentioned couldn't fix it. There was one file I really needed and
the demo of Data Rescue X found it and copied it to a good drive. I
used it by putting the bad laptop drive in an external case and
attached it to a working computer and installed the demo on it.

Re: Data Recovery Service?

2005-09-08 Thread Steve Fuller

So, I've heard a few times about DriveSavers but are there any other
companies that people used with success?

Ontrack out of Minnesota. They've been in the game a LONG time, and
I've had good luck with their services the times that I've used them
in the past. Not cheap, but good.

Have you only tried from the CD? If not and the problem persists using other
sources, did you make sure you did disconnect any peripheral beside the

Can't save attachments

2005-09-08 Thread Lowell Neudeck

I have an iBook G3 with full RAM and OS 10.2.8

I use Mail as my email program.

In the past I could save pictures sent to me as attachments but
recently I can't. When I drop down the file menu, the Save As Draft,
Save Attachments, and Open as New Message choices are present but
dimmed so I can't perform any of those functions. I have rebuilt
Permissions, run Tech Tool Pro and Disk Warrior to no avail.

Any suggestions?

TIA

In Safaari 2.01 there's a menu choice in the file menu. It may ask you to

Onyx is good! You can tell it to enable the debug menu for Safari.
After the restart you can import the bookmarks from the debug menu.
You also get a good maintenance utility for free.

Subject: [swap] FS: PowerBook G3 400mhz PISMO complete.(UPDATE)

Hi all,

It's the last days for a great deal.

Yep, it has to go. My best friend, a G3 400 Mhz Powerbook Pismo in very good
condition. Original config - 400Mhz/1mb cache/128mb ram/10Gb HD/8mb
video/DVD/CD-Rom drive.

Case in good condition, shows some wear but nothing major. IR port window
missing (of course). Power supply (YoYo), Screen and Keyboard in very good
condition. Was running OS 9.1. Drive is clean and has been wiped and zeroed.
Ran Apple hardware test and it passed all tests. No OS on drive and no OS
disks with Powerbook.Battery seems to be good Will run OSX (but not
supplied). Great for second Powerbook or rebuild with bigger drive and ram
or use for parts (N! How could you think of cutting up my friend).
Will also include a VG Carry bag (Targa), spare 4Gb 2.5hard drive and some
cables (Usb, modem and what else I can find to add).

Will consider any offer over US$250 (current offer). plus shipping.

Shipping from Australia via Air Mail to US or Europe should be no more than
US$50, excluding insurance. Ask for local shipping (Aus only)

Payment via PayPal only.

Any questions email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks and good luck,

Leigh.

Check feelback at ebay - lo2512

***Please Note: I will hold this open till the 11th September. Genuine
