Hi Jocelyn,

I cannot even hazard a guess as to why you would feel compelled to
post this sort of question on the G-books list so I have to assume
(and hope) that it is simply some sort of mistake.

Either way, I am asking that you find a more suitable forum to
discuss the dietary limitations of
animals from this point forward. You ask a seemingly genuine
question but it simply doesn't belong on this list.

Please consider this thread discontinued folks.

Thank you,

Want to trade half-recognized 256 MB SODIMMs (Wallstreet)

2005-10-17 Thread Robert Gruber
Got two sticks of 256 MB Apple SODIMMs for a good
price, and my Wallstreet sees each as 128.

I rolled the dice, and lost.

Wondering if someone has these sticks that will be
fully seen in mine for the ones which I assume will
work in many other laptops, and some iMacs, if I'm not
mistaken.

I am in the SF Bay area; I'd certainly be willing to
travel a bit to trade one stick or both, and kick in
some monetary consideration.

OWC seems to have the right ones for ~$27; I could
KICK myself.

Alternatively, I would sell and ship these if my dream
transaction doesn't materialize.

Thanks for reading.

I think that your problem will be the ram if you try just putting a
stick of ram in the lower slot and then try to install again once
installed then put back any other ram and away you go .

thats how i got 10.3 on the lombard i had.

And if you have access to a pismo then you can stick the drive in
that and put Tiger on it then drop it back in the lombard.

Hey Vicki thank you for the response to my query. I'm sort of at a loss
here, because I'm not good with tearing things apart and then putting
them back together. I am real good with things just working because
that's what they're supposed to do. I always end up having to take it to
the shop after I've messed around with it. So I might as well do that in
the first place. So, with that in mind perhaps I should just get rid of

MacWireless PC Card, Free to a Charitable Group

2005-10-17 Thread P. A. Koroluk

Dear Listers,

I hope that this post will not be against some aspect of list rules.

I recently purchased, for my Pismo, a 200 mW wireless 11b PC card
from MacWireless:

Unfortunately, we belatedly discovered that the accompanying software

this card go to some good use, I would be very grateful if anyone on
the list who might be involved with a nonprofit or educational

the item and assure that it fully functional.

Does anyone on this list have experience with upgrading
a Pismo to a total of 1 GB memory ? Is this possible ?
Any problems ?

I've been running my Pismo with 1 GB of memory for 10 months now, and
with 640 MB of memory for probably about a year before that with, no
problems in either configuration.

Any recommendations on specific memory brands / manufacturers
(Crucial, Omni Technologies, Kingston, Samsung, ...)
or online retailers that I should specifically seek out or avoid ?

I got the second 512MB chip last winter from PowerBook Medics, who
have always been good to me, plus they ship overseas. I had
previously bought RAM on several occasions via sites listed through
Ramseeker.com--I do remember that there was an outfit in the L.A.
area that I bought from twice, once probably for the first 512MB chip
and once for RAM for a desktop I've long since sold (probably my
PowerMac 730). Pretty sure it was MemoryToGo.com, since I still have
that home page bookmarked--can't find any old e-mail about it,
though, and all of my old hardware receipts are sitting in a storage
shed 5,000 miles across the ocean so I can't really double check
right now.

I believe PowerBook Medics sells only Kingston RAM--been a few months
since I've been inside the Pismo, but I'm pretty sure what I have in
there is one Samsung and one from whichever Korean or Japanese
manufacturer whose RAM Kingston actually handles.

What I've tried: restart the machine, log in as a different user,
shutdown, repair permissions. I also downgraded the firmware (I
have been using the unofficial firmware update that has given me
16x CD, 2xDVD-R and 1x-DVD-RW for 2 years, without any problem)
back to the original version.

Nothing has worked, so far. I thinking that this is perhaps a
mechanical problem. I welcome any and all suggestions.

I would gladly use this as an excuse for putting one of the newer

would also appreciate any indications of european vendors - I don't
want to face another customs nightmare :-(

Do you know if the 128MB was standard or if one 64MB chip was added
later? And I've read here a lot of stories from Lombard owners that had
to remove all extra memory to install a later version of OS X.

It came to me with the 128 mb of ram already onboard so I have no idea.
And I have read those same excerpts, but I thought I might get lucky as
some have and skirt the issue, but I guess not. No Macs with scsi that
have OS X on them. Well, since I've never taken a Powerbook apart I
guess that sort of limits me. I really didn't want to stay in 10.2, but
if that's all this machine can do so be it.

I've got a Lombard with 512 Mb RAm and Panther (10.3.9) and it works
fine except for some issues with freezing while asleep.
It came to me with the RAM and OSX installed so I can't tell you how it
was done but I'd suspect that the added RAM is the problem.
The SCSSI works as well (just used it to connect to a friends
Wallstreet)

getting flustered, and no presentation yet, just lots of small talk,
60 odd watching and waiting.

Eventually speaker said 'We are having trouble connecting to the
projector - would anybody have another laptop? Reluctantly I said I
had mine in the car, not sure that it would do the job. Anyway I got
it, Winders laptop disconnected, connected Pismo to LCD projector
with S-video cable*, and copied Powerpoint file from speakers thumb
drive. Keynote opened his file in about twenty seconds, then
displayed behaved very very well thank you.

Even got thanked by speaker, who is normally 'Not My Best Friend'.

I think that under Tiger my Pismo is approaching perfection.

Have a great day. Like my yesterday.

The only drawback to long lease times is running out of IP addresses;

I had that happen to the router/firewall we use on our home network -
before I did anything, I called tech support who confirmed what I
wanted to do: held in the reset button for about 30 sec. to reset the
router. Since the login/password info our DSL service needed was in
NVRAM, that wasn't affected, but it did reset the router to start it's
address sequences over again. From what tech told me, it's something
we'll need to do about every 2 years or so. :)

sorry, I haven't been following the entire thread. What about assigning
IP addresses instead of DHCP? All you would have to do is give each
computer a valid IP on the same subnet.

PowerBook WS-Pismo memory

2005-10-17 Thread Beniamino Cenci Goga
I managed to install a 512 MB stick (I got it for free from the local
Apple dealer while the 256 low profile for the WS are still rare and
expensive) into my WallStreet and is was recognized as 256: now I
have a 512 MB WS (true 256 and 512 seen as 256).

The toxic ingredient in broccoli is isothiocyanate and it is
reported to be a pretty potent gastrointestinal irritant. However
broccoli toxicity has been noted only in livestock.

Yes. Any of the active matrix TFT LCDs -- the 12 TFT (not the passive 12
FSTN) the 13 and the 14-- can work with any Wallstreet.

The only LCD issue with Wallstreets I have ever noticed is that a 12 FSTN
screen cannot work with a Series II (233/512,266,300) mobo.

For laptops that move between two or more sites with different
address ranges it is so much easier to use DHCP. Especially if you
