Re: Life of PBG4 Battery

2005-12-01 Thread Francesco sciacca
Once teh battery is fully discharged, plug the machine
in and let it sit until the battery indicator shows a
 full charge.

Now, unlock the battery and take it out of the
notebook. Hold it in your hand for about 30 seconds,
and then put it back in the notebook and let the
 charging process resume.

Just removing the battery for 30 seconds will likely
yield a result of the battery showing not fully
 charged on it's indicator.

thanks for the tip, I was not aware that resuming the charging process at
intervals could do the trick. I will give it a go soon and will report,
although, in my experience, discharging the battery until the PB shuts
itself off (not just goes to sleep) is a lengthy process and I can't afford
downtime on that machine unfortunately. In my case, it didn't work
overnight.

Last time I tried, I lauched all (nearly) the applications I have and let it
sit that way. Not sure if it was a thoughtful way to act, though... It did
shut down if left overnight.

cheers,
gianfranco

Apple BT Mouse an Aluminium 15

2005-12-01 Thread Beniamino Cenci Goga
This mouse works flawlessly with the Lithium batteries (9 euros every
2 months... way too expensive) while when I switch to the NiMH (this
last set rated at 2500 mAmps) the pointer does not follow smoothly
the mouse movement.

With the Lithium it is rock solid up to the very last minute of use
(just before it power off).

Any interpretation?

NiMH batteries are a slightly lower voltage (1.2V) than the lithium
batteries (1.5V)

However the Lithium batteries are readily available cheaper online:

http://www.thomas-distributing.com/enr-l91bp-4.htm $8 US for 4
batteries.

http://tinyurl.com/98p38 for a number of online sellers, 8-packs
for $15-$18 US.

This will do until someone starts making LiIon AA cells, which
apparently no one does.

Re: WSII won't see RAM in top slot

2005-12-01 Thread Tom and Lisa P
Interesting idea. Does a WS II CPU work on a WS I? I upgraded the
processor to the 292MHz limit after I bought the machine 'cause 233
was just too slwww.

What's BGA?

Jim Sanderson

A WS2 CPU will work fine on a WS1 motherboard. Just not the other way around.

BGA stands for Ball Grid Array which describes the method of
attachment of the CPU to the board. Its an array of tiny little
balls of metal. You cant rtework BGA at home; you need an expensive
pro rig for that.

Re: USBcam for 10.4/1.5GHz

2005-12-01 Thread john slavin
The icecam doesn't work too bad. If it's like the one I have, it's
pretty unwieldy and I end up clamping it to the top of my screen with a
big rubber band. It's also manual focus. And it doesn't contain a
mic. Since it's USB, I suspect it has considerably fewer frames per
second than say the iSight. However, knowing these limitations, it's
still not a bad cheap alternative to the iSight. Also, as with many of
these cameras, it performs poorly in low light conditions. It helps a
lot to have a light facing you.

I should also add that you'll need iChatUSB. It's normally a 10.00
piece of software, but they have a special now for $5.00. Moreover,
this software will let you run it on a G3 mac.

So this time Apple used bad circuitry?
