I got one about one year ago from
and happened to get a new Rev. F for about $60. It looks like the new
boards have gone up a bit, but a used one is going for about $40.

I'm not affiliated with the site/merchant, I've just been happy with what
I've purchased from him.

Re(2): Should Wallstreet wake when lid is opened?

2002-10-31 Thread Hottentot
I don't know how it is with OS X, but with 8 and 9, my Wallstreet woke
from sleep when lifting the lid. The only thing that ever effected the
sleep/wake involving the lid was the hard drive upgrade. When I put a
larger drive into the 'Book, it wouldn't wake from sleep when I raised
the lid because of the magnetic interferance with the switch in the lid.

When I visited I found several other
readers reporting the same thing and even a page about how some people
solved the problem.

Re: DVD on Wallstreet

2002-10-29 Thread Hottentot
Occasionally on my Wallstreet the cards would eject while the mechanism
would remain "cocked" as it were. The solution was to use a paperclip in
the eject hole when the slot was empty. This allows the card to be inserted.

Re: Upgrading a TiBook

2002-09-30 Thread Hottentot

I boosted the 2 gig drive from my 233MHz Wallstreet [Powerbook G3
Series 1998] in exchange for a 30 GB Toshiba [$120 via a Deal-Mac
article too]. After trying a couple of enclosures I found another
deal from Deal-Mac for the PowerBoy USB/Firewire enclosure for 2.5"
drives. It has the benefit of running on either bus or external power
supply and the combination of USB and Firewire has enabled me to use
the drive anywhere, often saving other people's bacon.

I sold the Wallstreet in March, and bought a PowerBook G4 DVI and
switched the 30 GB out of the WStreet and into the enclosure.
Changing the drive is very easy. It has worked wonderfully. If I plug
it in to the external adapter, I can even boot from it.

Bookendz

2002-09-26 Thread Hottentot

Does anyone know if the Bookendz have been updated to work with the
newer PowerBook G4 (DVI)? I have the 800 MHz and would like to avoid
unplugging everything at the desk. 2 USB, Firewire, Ethernet, Video
and Sound all get tiresome after about the 10th time.

One of the reason that so many different email applications exist, is
that there are so many different levels of email needs. Some people
need quick and dirty, some others may need a comfortable GUI. Others
need feature "X" or "Y" and that limits the scope of programs that
they can utilize.

For example: I used Eudora for nearly 7 years because it was
lightweight, quick, and responsive on the Centris 650. When someone
else got the computer, they were willing to bear the long wait for
Netscape to do the same things because they needed a more friendly
GUI. With my Wallstreet [affectionately, "True Love"], I used OE for
4 years because it was free, ad free, and would pull down stuff from
Hotmail [with full knowledge of the corruption problems]. After the
divorce [er, I mean, when I had to sell my True Love], I have tried
several different programs for my TiBook 800. I have finally settled
back on Eudora for the simple reason that I currently need a high
level of encryption and it fits the bill. Other programs support SSL,
but for one reason or another will not work in my current set-up
[behind a MS ISA server], OS 9 [X won't connect through the ISA
proxy], SSL and certificates.

Here is a sad reminder of how much Mac users still often face 2nd
class netizenship, from a FAQ for Mac users of securenym.net secure
email servers:
>Microsoft has managed to short-change users with Outlook Express for
>the Mac. All versions after v4.5 fail to provide support for SSL and
