Re: What is a Lombard DVD card?

2004-05-17 Thread John Kamimura
 [EMAIL PROTECTED] 05/17/04 19:03 PM
I have a 333 Mhz Lombard and when I recently upgraded
the CD-ROM drive to a DVD drive, I found that it
actually played DVD movies. Cool! Subsequently, I
noticed that in the Apple System Profiler, it states
that there is a DVD card present.

My question is this: Is this DVD card a part of the
motherboard? Or is it a separate component hidden in
the bowels of my machine that could conceivably be
transferred to another Lombard?

Ted

reply -

Normally a 333 Lombard requires a DVD decoder card that is inserted into the PC Card
slot in order for a DVD to play if you have a DVD drive.

It might be that you have a 400 Lombard that has a 333 CPU replacing the orignal 400
CPU. The 400 had the decoder hardware on the motherboard.

Have you checked the label on the bottom of the case to see which model you have?

Re: Help to install panther in the lombard

2004-03-27 Thread John Kamimura
Some Lombards can't/won't install OS X due a problem with the CPU and/or memory. You
may want to check out the macfixit. com web site under the portable macs forum for the
threads on problems.

Some things to try from the threads
reseat the CPU and RAM
install OS X with only the original Apple RAM in the lower slot (nothing in upper slot)

Re: Looking for MacAlly cardbus USB driver

2004-02-10 Thread John Kamimura
I don't remember installing either... Checking the Macally web site and it says you
need to have the following:

*MacOS 8.6 or later
*USB for Cardbus driver from AppleĀ®

HI Gang,
I lost my driver for my MacAlly PCMCIA cardbus USB adapter when my hard
drive died in my wallstreet. I don't remember finding it originally on the
internet though I searched high and low. I finally got it by going back to
the guy who sold me the card. It's been too long for me to remember the
guy's email address or name...

Bottom line is: I'm begging among this fine brotherhood for a kind soul to
send me via email attachment the driver I need

Or, a link to a driver online.

Thanks for any and all help!

Re: Can't SwapHardDriveInWallstreet

2003-11-29 Thread John Kamimura
I'm not sure if this will help or not but have you looked here

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/PB_G3/wallstreet_hard_drive/index.html

for info on the Wallstreet hard drive upgrade.

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] 11/29/03 19:37 PM
I have a Wallstreet. It has a 500mhz upgrade of some kind
and 128MRAM. It was working fine with the original Apple brand 2
Gig HD. I tried to install the 6 Gig travelstar that came
installed in my TiBook. Both disks have clean installs of OS 9.2.
When I started up with the travelstar installed I got the
chimes and the first time I got a computer with the ?. Then I
tried rebooting with an OS 9.1 CD. It would chime--but the screen
remained completely blank. It wouldn't see the CD either--so I
couldn't do anything to even look at the HD.
I checked to see if the disk was firmly set and so forth.
Also, I could hear the disk do its self-check and startup.
I removed the Travelstar, put the old disk back in and
everything ran fine. (The travelstar runs fine in my external
firewire case.)
Any Ideas? Would formatting in OSX do this--and if so, why
couldn't I boot up from a CD and reformat?

Re: Giving up on Lombard OS X

2003-10-06 Thread John Kamimura
I mentioned earlier that there was a thread over at Macfixit on problems with OS X and
LOmbards

Here is the URL

http://www.macfixitforums.com/php/showflat.php?Cat=Board=Forum35Number=178765page=0view=collapsedsb=5o=fpart=1

If this doesn't work do a search in the portables forum for OS X Freeze and Lombard
Powerbooks/Part 2

This will help you identify whether or not the CPU is the issue or not

Re: MAC BATT Re: Pismo Battery dead

2003-06-26 Thread John Kamimura
Does Batttery Direct have this as part of their regular services or is it something
that this specific store does? Do you have any other information that might be helpful
for other Canadians living close to a Battery Direct? I'm thinking about running into
their Burnaby store to have this done.

Thanks

John

Nice paperweight, or can these be rebuilt?

A local battery store here in the sunny Okanagan, Battery Direct, is
rebuilding Pismo batteries, at least. $40, with higher performance
cells than the original.

They're part of a national chain, but I doubt it extends outside of
Canada. But I'll bet any battery specialty store would be a good place
to check.
