No need to use GIMP, printer sharing is build into 10.2. Go to the Sharing
panel of System Preferences and turn it on for the computer that is
connected to the printer. It should then appear in Print Center on the other

I know this is not a direct answer to your question, but I thought you might

2003-02-01 Thread Mick Ring
on 2/1/03 11:10, ap at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I like to go wireless from cable modem to wallstreet any suggestions please
 Thanks

I have a Wallstreet with Mac OS 9.1 that uses my cable modem wirelessly.
Here are the key parts:

- Netgear MR314 802.11b wireless router with 4-port Ethernet switch
- Lucent WaveLAN Silver PCMCIA card

I chose the Netgear because I consider the Netgear brand to be high quality
and reliable. The MR314 also routes AppleTalk packets which is necessary for
me. I also wanted the 4-port to connect non-wireless machines on my LAN. The
MR314 has a web interface for administration but is mostly plug and play.
Oh, and it was pretty cheap, too. $60 after rebate.

I chose the WaveLAN card because it will work with my Newton and my
Wallstreet. It is also cheap to acquire on eBay ($35 for mine). A bonus that
I did not discover until after I bought it is that it can use Apple's
built-in Airport driver. Presumably, this would not be supported in earlier
systems like 8.6 and possibly 9.0.

I think these items are available even cheaper now and you should be able to
go wireless for less than $100.

Sounds like a TCP configuration problem on one of the machines. You might
try deleting the SLP Preferences file you mentioned previously. I think once
you can see the G4 in the Network browser on the PB, you'll be able to see
the G4 in USBPS.

One thing that happens to me occasionally is that my Powerbook gets set to
using Ethernet in AppleTalk and Airport in TCP/IP. Have you tried plugging
in the Powerbook to Ethernet? That might help you narrow down the problem.

I think you misunderstood me and don't understand all the steps necessary to
get it to work. On the computer that is connected to the printer via USB,
you need to go to the My Printers tab in the USB Printer Sharing control
panel and verify that the printer is shared.

Then, on the other computer you need to go to the Network Printers tab of
the USB Printer Sharing control panel and click the Add button to add the
printer.

All of this needs to be done BEFORE you go to the Chooser.

If you've done all of this already, my apologies for re-iterating the

How can I get Stickies to launch at startup in OS X in the same way it does
in OS 9? I don't see any preference to set that'll do it. I've just been
re-opening Stickies each time I log in, and my saved notes are there, but
I'd like it to automatically open instead.

As with any other application in OS X, you can drag the application icon
into the Login Items. It's in one of the Control Panels.

Did you try the last resort: reading the directions? They're at the bottom

As another Apple tech I second his/her opinion.

That raises an interesting question, though. Would I be able to
switch the speakers between the computer and the stereo quickly, so
if I wanted to listen to the stereo I could? Or would I have to
fiddle around with little wires and restart?

If your stereo has a knob to switch between CD and Aux, then it would be
just a matter of turning the knob.

Yes, there's the 5 CD changer on top, the controls in the middle, and
the dual tape decks on the bottom. The speakers are, of course,
 separate.

I don't think you can make it do what you want. As I understood your
original post, you want to be able to hear music and your Powerbook
*simultaneously*. Without separates, that would be impossible, unless your
system has some sort of mixing mode.

Aside from the speakers, is your stereo all one piece?
