A bad processor? Do processors go bad'? I thought they were kind of a work,
not work component? I have gotten it running twice, I don't know how, but it
will just boot sometimes and run for an indefinite amount of time then just
freeze and die.

Also, the screen has this red tinge to it these two times I've booted it.

Pismo three beeps?

2004-11-20 Thread Scott Howe
Hi folks-

I have a friends Pismo here that will not start up. All it does is do the
three beep thing then just sits there with the power on. I have to yank the
battery to power off. I've swapped the RAM out for RAM that I know works in
my Wallstreet and I get the same thing. The RAM that was in the Pismo works
fine in the Wallstreet.

So what other issues should I be investigating other than RAM? I'm quite
sure the PRAM battery is dead. Could that be causing the beeps?

Thanks!

Wallstreet Display

2004-04-18 Thread Scott Howe
Hi-

I remember a thread from a few days ago about sleep/display problems on a
Wallstreet. At the time, I wasn't having any problems so I didn't pay much
attention, but oddly enough, a Wallstreet I just sold to a friend is having
the problem now.

Was ther any resolution found for this problem? I deleted my old messages.
Specs for his machine:
14.1 inch display
300 MHz
192 MB RAM
10.2.8

Thanks,

Scott

Re: Any instructions on disassembling my Titanium screen assembly?

2004-04-09 Thread Scott Howe
Mark,

You are in for one hell of a hard time if you plan on replacing that screen
yourself. I've done it twice and it's a long laborious job. If you plan on
going ahead with it, email me off-list and I'll send you some info.

As far as what Apple does, they sometimes (depending on current LCD prices
and your particular TiBook model) just throw your hard drive in a whole new
case. Then charge you $1200 for it.

Re: Swapping out a DVI TiBook display

TiBook Swap out update:

The LCD that my client bought on ebay was defective. I will soon be sending
out the sellers info to hopefully prevent others from getting burned. I just
don¹t have it right now.

Other than that, the swap out was successful from a purely technical view. I
won't say it was easy. It was delicate and nerve wracking, but successful.
Copius amounts of Super Glue seemed to do that trick with the hinges too. It
was rock solid.

If anyone has to do this procedure in the future, contact me and I'll help
out if I can.

Re: Swapping out a DVI TiBook display

2004-03-02 Thread Scott Howe
Hi Dan-

Thanks for the info! Wow. I'm amazed by that info. Makes me love and respect
Apple even more. Even though taking apart that TiBook made me curse it's
very existence ;)

I came across some instructions my good friend gave me and they recommend
using Loc-Tite; which I used to used when I worked on small engines. My
experience with that scared me enough to NOT use it on a $3000 computer! But
it may be the best way to go.

Don't laugh, but I used copius amounts of SuperGlue on the hinges and frame,
for now. I'll see how it holds up. I'll tell you, I'm not convinced any
epoxy will provide enough hold over the long run. Maybe that¹s why Apple has
had such a problem with the hinges. An awful lot of abuse gets leveled at
those guys.

Thanks again,

Scott

PowerBook 12 Battery

2003-06-06 Thread Scott Howe
Hi All-

I just wanted to update those who helped me with my
battery issues on my new 12 PB. I DID return it but
not to Apple, to Microcenter where I purchased it.
They exchanged it with no questions asked. That is
Microcenter's policy but I wonder what would of
happened if I had sent it back to Apple? Would it have
been so painless?? Just a thought...

a discussion about the speed of a product that I paid

coming to Apple's CONSUMER based discussion board
would assume that it's a forum for users of that

acceptable topic is censorship in my opinion and I
stick by that.
But you're entitled to your opinion also.

15 TiBook--- Aluminum

2003-06-03 Thread Scott Howe
Hi Folks-

A friend of mine is interested in buying a new TiBook
but would like to know if an aluminum model is on the
slates to be released, or if Apple plans on sticking
with the Titanium.

Thanks,

Scott Howe

2003-05-31 Thread Scott Howe
Hi Folks-

Thanks for the help with my battery issue. Question
number 2 is this:
Anyone have a recommendation for manufacturers of
512MB Ram Modules? I'm finding alot of options, and a
large price range but little info as to what is the
fastest (2-2-2).

Thanks!

Scott

Which is what I did but it didnt fix the problem and

isn't exactly as across the board as Apple would like
us to believe. I hooked the AC up again tonight while
the battery was at 43% and it's risen to 76% and quit.
Again. And I don't have my ipod attached.
Forgive me if I sound sarcastic or angry but it's
frustrating!

PowerBook 12 Battery

2003-05-29 Thread Scott Howe
Hi All-

Finally moved up to the 12 PB from my old Beige G3 MT
Desktop. I absolutely love this machine but theres a
problem I seem to be having with the battery. I've
calibrated like the manual recommends, and it has
recharged fully since draining it but what happens is
this: If I plug the PB in with a drained battery
(dosent matter how much) AND plug in my ipod at the
same time, the battery will charge for X amount of
time, then quit charging. Last night it got up to 88%
and then quit. I disconnected the ipod and let it
charge all night and it still wont get beyond 88. Do
I have a defective battery or is this something anyone
else has experienced?

i have the same pb with mine.
as far as i know, it's just a bug that says your
 battery isn't fully
 charged (when it actually is).
it only happens when you plug the pb in with 93% or
 more battery life.
 (do i make myself clear?)

try plugging in your pb when it has less than 93%
 battery life, the
charge will hopefully go up to 100%.

 Benoit Fontaine

Thanks. The only thing is is it happens to me to no
matter where the charge is. Last night it was 46% when
I plugged it in and it quit charging (or saying it was
charging) at 88%. Was the reading wrong? Could it
actually have been 93% or more charged?
