 #1 is a PB 500 Firewire, 768/40/DVD, working battery with a 2.5 hr
run-time on a charge, VST Zip100 pod, Apple-logo'd carrycase, UFO
power-pod, 10.3.2 installed, with pack of original 10.3.2 CDs.

#2 is also a PB 500 Firewire, 256/20/DVD, battery is recognised by
the machine but won't charge (press the battery button and the first
LED blinks a few times, that's it), UFO powerpod, 9.1 installed, no
 discs.

Guesstimates, people? I'm in Australia, but I can convert to A$ from
US$ and EU$ ... just after some ideas, all input appreciated.

 Geoffrey

I wanted to give you a $ figure but with all things its only worth
someone is willing to pay for it. I find it best when selling items to
look on ebay then look at the used mac sites for a compatible unit.
There in the middle is the value.
I hope this helps I am sure that many list members will give you a $
amount from their experience with them. I can say that a good pismo is
a prize.

G3 Snow 12' keyboard

2006-02-01 Thread Steve Peckey
Does anyone have a extra keyboard kicking around in good condition? My
board seems to have warped a bit and the lock button is not working so
it pops up on me often. I have seen some on ebay, just wondering if
there are any parts that you all may have for sale

The gimp and nvu open soirce software

2006-02-01 Thread Steve Peckey
I recently came across a nice photoshop like application. Its an open
source program.

www.gimp.org

works with photo retouching image authoring. I have been playing with

not need all the bells and whistles that photoshop has and its allot
less, its free.

I am also looking at a program called Nvu a web authoring program also
open source take a look see what you think. www.nvu.com

Re: The gimp and nvu open soirce software

2006-02-01 Thread Steve Peckey
Hey Tim
Not for serious professionals but for the intermediate techie wanting
to play with pic and such I think is a good substitute. I am going to
play with it and compare it to photoshop ellements. For most people
wanting to do basic editing work I think that photoshop has too much
of a learning curve
It has an automated installer for a windows pc (my desk top) for the
mac I just had to install a X11.app first and the installer (ibook).
I have an open source counterpart for most of my apps just to see
whats going on in the open source world.

cheers

featured app like Photoshop CS2 or Office 2004, but come on
For serious work, would you recommend it?

Re: open source software site

2006-02-01 Thread Steve Peckey
I have used office 97, 2000, and now xp on my pc. I have open office
on my desktop as well as office xp. On my ibook I have office 2004 as
well as neo office. As far as microsoft software goes I would replace
any open source app for microsoft stuff. I really don't like ms office
on a mac but I use different apps depending on what I am doing. Since
most of the open source office apps integrate with ms office appsI
have not had any problems.

I think some of the open source stuff runs better on older macs G3's
and such and ms office is such a resource hog.

My two cents, I'm also lucky to have been able to get all of my
software from my days in college, when I was at Purdue Microsoft had a
deal that you were able to get any of their titles at 5.00

Re: open source software site

2006-02-01 Thread Steve Peckey
Its funny when I posted stuff on here about open source software I did
not think it would be met with such strong opinions. Its almost like
its a apple vs pc debate. I just posted because I would think that
most of the users could utilize open source stuff without spend $$$ on
software that they may use a few times a week. Even student that don't
have a software program with their school would rather save the 200.00
on an app if they can use a office suite that is free.

My two cents again

Cheers

PS For those of you who have older ibooks clam, snow this works great

And for Tmb- open source software provides the code for the software that
can be improved on by its users as well as not restricting free distribution
for the software. I think for the Mac user open source developers is by far
a more creative group than windows. This is coming from someone who use both
PC and Mac. My Mac is my favorite

Re: i-pod ???

2006-01-28 Thread Steve Peckey
Hi Woody
Yes it is very easy to get your music on the ipod. I would go with the
60 gig ipod its the best value for your $. You wont be confined with
space if you have alot of pics and or music not to metion the video. I
think the nano is to small for what you are looking for. You may still
be able to find a mini on ebay but they seem to be in high demand.

Now I'm a mac person but I don't know much about how
the i-pod loads music. Help me if you know. On either
or both models: can I load music from my CD's or do
I have to download from i-tunes ? It's hardly worth
it if I have to pay for music twice. I'd appreciate
any info from those who know.
  Thanks, Woody

It's pretty easy. You just plug it in and the iTunes app does all the
work. And you can import your CD's to the iTunes app also to get them
 on the iPod.
