Modem problem

2004-06-21 Thread Jason Long
Folks,
My DSL moden got fried by a near by lightning strike right before I went out
of town and I've been using my internal modem until my new DSL modem
arrives. However it no longer recognizes a dial tone. I can no longer check
the modem box when trying to setup a new location in the network port
configurations screen.
Is my modem toast? Or am I suffering from some sort of software malfunction?

Jason

Wallstreet modem problem

2004-06-13 Thread Beverly Woods
I have a friend whose Wallstreet was connected to the phone lines during a
storm last year, whereupon the internal modem quit working. He's used an
external ever since.

Recently I saw a Wallstreet modem on the Swap list and ordered it for him. I
put it in, but could not get it to work. The profiler said at various times
that no Apple modem was found or that the modem is in use no further
info is available. Of course the modem was not in use in any way I could
detect when it said this. It looks identical to his original modem, down to
the plastic strip with the Canadian emblem on it. The modem itself says that
it is a Powerbook GV 56K modem. Connected to the phone line, it would dial,
but no dial tone was detected or heard (although one was present on the
line, which worked fine for other computers) and no connection was made.

Any ideas on this? Does it seem likely that some other component besides the
modem is fried?

TIA,

Beverly

Re: OS 10.2 Jaguar modem problem reported

2004-01-09 Thread Luis Sequeira
Hi folks, can you help with this one. please.

I installed a clean copy of 10.2 jaguar onto a reformatted hard disc. All
clean.
I had saved my internet preferences, for my client (mulberry)

The server connects whne I press connect. All settings are correct,
including an alternative dial up connection. I am using the internal modem.
However when I try to check mail, or to connect my browser, it cannot
connect , and a modem error is reported. The email client even tries to
dial up when already connected. I have switched off automatic connection on
remote access.
Even Apple's email client does this; my chess internet programme, auction
bidder, all the same: 'modem connection problem reported', 'check modem
connections' and no successful action from these applications. The settings
are correct however. And I may even be connected, manually. I restarted in
OS 9 with same settings and applications, no problem.
What can be wrong?

regards, John
You don't mention what machine it is, but just in case it may be
useful: I was totally unable to use the modem in my Wallstreet with
Jaguar until 10.2.3, I think. Maybe you should try and update Jaguar
to the latest version, 10.2.8, or to 10.2.6 at least, and see if it
makes a difference.

Re: OS 10.2 Jaguar modem problem reported

2004-01-09 Thread chueewowee
I guess you read my update on this ...I rebooted in Os9 and then restarted
in OSX and the problem vanished. Restarting didn't do the trick.

I had the same Faxstf problem with OS10.1
I got round it somehow, but not with the modem centre. I remember
re-installing fax stf at some point before it worked.

Of course, you know we do not have the answers yet. I shall post on the
same topic if I have any new information.

installing OS X, running fine and afraid to disrupt the harmony, but
when attemptimg to use FAXstf it fails, as the modem can't be found. It
doesn't show up in the print or modem centre or in the system profiler.
Everything (dial-up fax) runs fine instead under OS 9.
