I don't think there are any expansion bay devices that will go into
the left side. Only a battery AFAIK. The right will take both.

I did see a long time ago there was a HDD that came in 1gig, 2gig, and
6gig configurations which was shaped just like the battery that was
designed for the expansion bays in the Pismo, Lombard etc. Perhaps
this drive, if u could find one, might work in the left side since it's
shaped the same? Just a thought. . ..

Uh, NO. The first in the PowerBook G3 Series is the WallStreet. The
"Original PowerBook G3" (no "Series") is the Kanga, AKA 3500. The
3400 is the version prior to that. The 3400 uses a 603 processor,
not a G3.

The 3400 wasn't a G3.

The 3500 or Kanga was the first Powerbook G3 not Powerbook G3 Series.

My Lombard running OS 9.2.2 starts without the battery in (on AC).
Perhaps Apple means the Lombard and Pismo can't use a two expansion bay
devices at once?
All my expansion bay stuff (CD, Zip, Superdisk/floppy) is asymmetric
(will only fit the right bay).

Yes that wasn't the issue.

The above was being read as stating that the Lombard/Pismo had to run a battery, I
think it was saying that they can't run two devices

I'd have to go with Malcolm, for the additional reason that I'm writing
this (under 10.2.8) on my Pismo which is plugged into the AC adapter,
with the weight-saving module in the left bay and the DVD/CDROM module in
the right bay. Yep, dead battery and saving up for the replacement.

So from empirical evidence, yes, it is indeed possible. If your Pismo
isn't working on AC adapter, there must be something else not working
(flaky AC adapter or PMU or something...).

FWIW,

This powerbook was bought for almost nothing, and I want to keep the
