Glad to hear its up and walking.
Try running a CD cleaner through the CD drive. Sounds like its dirty or out
of focus. There is an adjustment process for the drive, I had to do it for
my 1400, but its a little complicated. Somebody had directions for the
PB1400 CD drive (should be similar). I don't remember who's website it was
on but Maybe somebody else remembers???

Re: Almost Dead Wallstreet (update)

2004-12-02 Thread Katherine Zysk
I had the Wallstreet that had the disallowed symbol while starting in 10.2

I borrowed a ibook and moved my HD over. It still had the disallowed symbol
so I put a 9 start-up CD in, and after starting from that told the HD to
start from 9.

Put it back in the Wallstreet and it is running again in 9.
The CDRom is back but not reading all types of disks (can read the 9.2
update disk but not audio) It would not start the computer from the CDRom
while 10 was on the HD.

Batteries are still not charging even though I have a new dc card, and a new
charge card.

I put the battery in, it looks like it sees. It shows that the battery is
very low and sometimes flashing with a full red. But after a few minutes
the x comes over the battery symbol at the top of screen. And the control
strip tells me that the bay is empty.

I would like to get everything running again, any suggestions.

Thanks,
Kathiz

Why does the disallowed symbol come up.
 What does it mean?
 Not enough ram?
 Bad ram?

I'm sure that there are a number of causes for the disallowed
symbol. But the one I ran into when I installed OS 10.2 on my
Wallstreet was that I had an external hard drive connected to the PB
via a PCMCIA card. I kept getting the circle with the red slash
through it when trying to install OS X, until I ejected the PC card.

So, if you have **any** peripherals connected to your Wallstreet,
disconnect all of them and try the install again. I'm not saying this
*is* your problem, but it's worth a try.

 Good Luck,

 Bob

About a year or two ago, I think that it has 256

Then, you might want to take it out to see, although you might not have
enough memory left to install OS X. I've read a lot of complaints from
Lombard users unable to install OS X and many times, it was due to faulty
memory which, in other situations, would work fine, but would fail when OS X
is installed. I have no idea what the OS X installer does but it didn't
happen for a lot of users...

I did a search last night and after running around circles on apple's site
still could not come up with that answer.

I did get it to install and it ran fine, I booted into 9 to work on some

now I cannot even get it to boot to the CDRom or back into 9.

This is very frustrating, which is what a Mac is not supposed to be.

The only thing that I can think to do would be to put the HD into another

find a computer to put it into.

Why does the disallowed symbol come up.
What does it mean?

Bad or unbootable OS X install.

Not enough ram?
Bad ram?

Nope.

Bad RAM might have caused your install to fail - I missed the start of the
thread

I did get it to install and it ran fine, I booted into 9 to work on some older
applications and when I switched back to 10 I get the disallowed and now I
cannot even get it to boot to the CDRom or back into 9.

Why can't you get it to boot of a CD ?

You put a proper OS 9 CD in and hold the C key down ?

The only thing that I can think to do would be to put the HD into another
computer and tell it to start from 9 and then put it back. I just have to find
a computer to put it into.

Were both on one partition ? IIRC there is a way via open firmware to
select a different boot partition.
