If you're meaning the inverter board I'm pretty sure that this card is
not a part of the diplay assembly in the titanium powerbooks. I think the
inverter board of the titaniums is to the left in the bottom case.

Just to nip that incorrect imagining in the bud, the inverter in TiBooks 
is located in the body of the 'Book, not in the display. The entire 
display is scant millimeters larger in any direction than the actual LCD, 
no room in there for an inverter!

_That_ part you got quite right, a TiBook's LCD is a double PITA to 
replace and their CCFL a triple PITA!

The in most laptops inverter is part of the display assembly, and I
can't imagine that the TiBook is any different.  The inverter will be
replaced when you replace the display.

That being said a CCFL lamp isn't a very expensive part compared to a
whole display.  Just a much more difficult replacement.

Oups! Sorry about that. I was probably tired when I read your email. If you
bought the display assembly, then there is no need, of course, to
disassemble the defective one.

As somebody else pointed out, I don't think that a bad inverter could blow
the lamp. But I'm no technician.

Kyle, where are you when we need you   ;-)

Send an email to Kyle <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. He's the other G-Books nanny.
Just send him a short, polite email. He's an experienced Mac technician so
it should take him just a few seconds to tell you whether this is a good
move or a bad move...

ok, I see no other way than just trying. Well the display has costed me 
over 500 EUR, which I know is crazy but is the best (actually the *only*) 
deal I could get in Germany. Unfortunately i'm in the meantime relocating, 
so I will have to wait a few more days before giving it a try, I will then 
certainly report (possibly with a smile!)

I'm confused on this one. What cable you refer to? The display assembly 
has all the cables it needs, so I should just be able to plug the so-
called "data" cable to the logic board (left side, is this the ribbon 
cable you refer to?) and the backlight cable  to the inverter on the right 
side. What I'm afraid of is that for some obscure effect, a bad inverter 
could blow the CCFL lamp and I'm back at the beginning, only with 500 EUR 
less in the pocket!!

Unless you have a spare ribbon cable, I'm afraid you'll need to pretty much
disassemble the assembly display in order to test the new one you got.

Well, I can't answer with great authority on this one, I just don't know 
all the possibilities.

However, I can say if it were me I'd just go ahead and plug in the new 
display and see what happened. Err, but that's me, and I have extra bits 
with which to play and the thought of killing an otherwise good display 
doesn't dismay me all that much.

That said, I don't think there's much risk in trying it out. I really 
doubt a bad inverter will kill a known-good CCFL lamp. That's just my 
best guess though, so don't blame me if you burn down your neighborhood 
or something!
