When do you shut down your laptop?

2003-10-09 Thread Carl Testerman
I've just purchased my first laptop, one of the new 12 powerbooks. As
far as I can find, the only advice before moving the powerbook is to
wait until the light on the latch is blinking slowly (indicating that
the hard drive is spun down).

Do I need to shut down before taking the powerbook to work, (car
commute) or is it good enough to sleep and spin down the hard drive? I
have a padded shoulder bag, so it's reasonably well protected.

Thanks for answering this newbie question!

Carl

The only time I shut mine down is if I'm not going to be using it for
a few days (which doesn't happen very often :-)). Otherwise I just
put it to sleep, put it in my shoulder bag, and go.

(Hey, nice name!)

I think at one time that this was actually a MacWorld user tip. They
suggested that when going through security, you have your Mac
sleeping so that it is quicker to wake up and prove to the security
agents that it's fully functional and not an explosive device...
(Ignoring, of course, all jokes about 5300s or Wallstreet power
supplies.)

Peace,
Drew

I haven't actually shutdown my Pismo for anything more than a restart
since I added RAM to it ... that was in January. I never shutdown my
Pismo basically.
