On another note, I found a 20gb hard drive at ecost: http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=399093 I googled the mfg. part number and it turns out it's a Toshiba: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/priorityelectronics/djsa2ibmun20.html Am I correct in assuming this will be compatible with the pismo? -thanks again. Any 2.5 drive 12mm or less will work in a Pismo. If it's cracked in front, make sure the battery charge board is seated correctly. I think you mentioned that you looked at connections, but sometimes it's worth the effort to unplug/replug everything. --- JSH TiBook -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... You can get a 30GB drive in a Firewire case for $90. That may give you a case to use with the old drive, too. --- JSH TiBook -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: troubleshooting dead Pismo
From: Jim Newberry [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: troubleshooting dead Pismo Date: Wed, 31 Mar 2004 15:15:41 -0600 I just purchased a dead Pismo, which according to the seller had been dropped. I'm trying to revive it. The case has a small crack but otherwise it appears to be in very good physical condition. It won't power on, and there are no lights on the battery etc--no sign of power whatsoever. I found a service manual pdf online, and have taken the powerbook apart, as far as taking off the sound board. I made sure everything is firmly seated and visually inspected all parts--I can't see any broken parts. Any suggestions for troubleshooting this? Are there any parts that are most likely to be the culprits, or that would be good to start with as far as replacements (battery, sound card)? Also, any recommendations on good repair places? Thanks! -Jim The first place to start was with firmly seated parts. After that, I would suspect the power/sound board. They are rather precious on ebay these days. Where is the crack, it might show where the point of impact was when it was dropped. --- JSH TiBook -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: troubleshooting dead Pismo
One thing I forgot to mention regarding the dead Pismo; there's no hard drive in it. But I assume it should power on without a drive, correct? There is a DVD drive and I have the startup disc. I'm thinking about sending it in to Powerbookresq.com-- any experiences with them? It seems like $49 is a good price to get the problem diagnosed (including shipping both ways). thanks again.
