Re: SCSI PCI-controller for MDD
the problem in OSX is not the controller, it's the fact that there isn't an OSX driver for that scanner. i'm not sure that the 2906 controller works with OSX either, but even if you got an OSX compatible PCI/SCSI card, it still would not see the scanner in OSX. there is a website that has hacks to enable old scanners with OSX, but i don't recall the name for sure. something like SANE. perhaps another lister can point you to it. however, i personally would not attempt that. my suggestion is either get a new scanner (you can get one that blows the doors off of your old microtek for under $50), or simply scan and save the images to your HD in OS9, and then open or import them into the apps you want to use in OSX. In OSX no scanner is seen anyway so I cannot use VueScan which I would prefer as I have Adobe CS2. So what other brand and model of SCSI-controller can you recommend that would work in OSX Panther/Tiger and OS9? TIA for your input. Re: SCSI PCI-controller for MDD
I would also recommend looking at www.hamrick.com. He has some notes about this issue. There is also a SCSI-Firewire converter, which no longer may be in manufacture (Ratoc had one) and which cost about $100. I have 2 Adaptec SCSI cards and the Initio Bluenote SCSI card- I hope they work with my old Powerlook when I bring it out of storage one day. I have been able to install a Leopard boot drive on a SCSI drive down-pinned to 50 and it boots my Quicksilver just fine. Please Mr. Jobs, how about a more reasonably priced, less turbo- charged junior model of the current Mac Tower, the engineering for which is long-amortized. Some of us like to work with different PCI cards and exchange drives internally at times, etc. If the Mac only had the richness of graphics and audio cards like the PC world. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
