Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen's golf game

2007-02-26 Thread Dark
True, Wikipedia would probably be my friend here. But I'd rather not have to
run through a long set of rules that are too complex, and go into the
history of the game and what not when all I want to do is play Jim's game.

All the best,

The rules of baseball can be found using a search engine. They would be
 too
involved to put into an Email to the list. Just do a search for something
 like

 rules of Baseball

 or

 baseball rules

 Hi Jim.

Personally, I really like the golf game precisely because! it takes
 practice
to get any good scores on the course. this is rather unusual, because
 sport
and sports games aren't usually my thing, but I just find the golf game
 good
 fun to play.

I've tried the Baseball game, but being both from the Uk, and not really
into sports, I'm afraid I found it rather difficult to know what was
 going
on. I get the principle that someone boles the ball, - or is it
 called
pitching? and the batsman has to hit it while another player runs round
 the
bases to score, however there are some things I find rather confusing.
 For
instance, how come sometimes the ball is court the player is out and
sometimes not? And what does Stealing and bunting mean?

Perhaps at some point you might considder updating the game with some
 basic
rules ofBaseball for people not familiar with the game and it's
 terminology,
the way you have in the Golf game.

 all the best,

 Dark.

 Hi Josh,

No, there is no walk through for my golf game. I think that the best
thing that you could do is to practice on the putting practice green.
Putting is one of the more difficult aspects of the game of golf, but
 with
practice you can get pretty good at it in my game.

No, sorry no mod for my baseball game and I am going to send Kathy after
you. grin Personally I thought that she did a great job for the voice

2007-02-26 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Dark,

Cool! very happy to hear that you like my golf game. Thank you very much for
saying so. I find that my golf, baseball, pong and Mach 1 all take practice
and that if I don't play them for awhile I do not do well until I get practiced
up on them again.

I hope that the baseball rules that Phil posted might help you to know the game
of baseball. I have read the rules of cricket and still don't understand the
game. It might be sort of like that I have played chess for so long that I
have forgotten how to play checkers. You know they are played on the same
board, but are totally different games. Just like cricket and baseball are
played with a bat and a ball, but are totally different games.

Re: [Audyssey] New programming language. sounds promising.

2007-02-26 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Thomas,

In VB6 a variable is not public unless you name or dimension it a public
variable. I use the same variable in all of the different subs without fear of
it being seen in other subs or form load etc. Of course it is also cool in VB6
to be able to name and use public variables when you want or need them.

BFN

- Original Message -
Hi Josh,
It can compile exe files from what I have read on the FAQ, and the
author mentioned writing games, but I don't honestly see really complex
games being designed. Especially, games where there are several game
characters, weapons, etc involved like an rpg.
One of the things I did not like about this simple language is it takes
us right back to the bad old days of structured programming rather than
object oriented programming. Why is that bad?
Well, in structured programming generally speaking for every game
character you created, weapon, etc had to have it's own variables. Even
if they were placed in a struct, (structure,) they were not very safe as
they were publically visible to the rest of the program, and risked
being over written accidently.
When object oriented design came out it simplified things for
developers by arranging variables and functions according to classes,
and were referenced by an object name. The end result was you could use
the same variables over and over by creating a new instance of them, and
there were greater protection involved since each variable, function,
could be restricted to public, private, or protected status.
I suppose I could go on and on about object oriented design verses
structured design, but needless to say it is just better suited for
writing games. You can refere to that game character, weapon, but a real
object name, such as vader, skywalker, r2, leia, etc rather than a
list of associated variables.

Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen's golf game

2007-02-26 Thread Dark
Hi Jim.

I do enjoy the practice and precision needed in your golf game, I actually
find it a nice break when I want to play something relaxing and don't feel
up to playing an arcade style game, also, the hundreds of extra courses mean
that there's always something new to play as well. What's really odd, is
that I don't particularly enjoy sport or sport games, - though I'll try
any audio game that's going just to see what it's like.

As far as Crickit goes, I did used to play it at schoolso I have a vague
idea as to how the game works, but even in England you have to be a fairly
dedicated fan to pick up on the subtleties and terminology of the game.

Football (socker), on the other hand, you get to know whether your
particularly INTERESTED in sport or not. Not only is there a lot on the
local and national news, but also in some parts of the country (including up
here around the city of Newcastl), it's a very indeed. major thing, with
people wearing the appropriate kit for their team, wandering around with
radios broadcasting the match, pubs showing games etc. Some people will even
hitchhike ridiculously long distances just to see their local team play.

Beware the the grue!

Dark.

Yeah, the game does autosave after each proving grounds sanario. It saves

Re: [Audyssey] sryth game master not responding

2007-02-26 Thread Yvonne Alaniz
I have only had that problem once. I sold an item and didn't get the large
amount of gold for it. I wrote the GM and I think he got back to me in
three or four days. You might want to double check that his addy is in your
book. Maybe your filter sent it to the bulk folder or dumped it all
together.

Did you save the game after getting the armor? That might be the
 problem
right there. The game automatically saves your Proving Grounds scores
 but
 it
might not necessarily save any items you get unless you yourself save
 the
 game.
As for the GM not responding, he has a very tough spam filter and some
there are occasions, rather frequent I've noticed, where the messages
 don't
even get into his Inbox. He's also an extremely busy guy, seeing as how
 he's
the only one working on Sryth. Don't get discouraged though. When he
 does
get messages and has time to respond he's usually very helpful.

I have emailed the game master on several occasions about different
problems I have been having in the game. recently I completed all the
proving ground events. In one of the proving ground events I was given
some armor this was special armor it was magical. I checked to see if
 I
had the armor after I got it and it was there I shut down the game and
next time I logged on the armor was missing. Like I said the game
 master
has been non responsive to any of my request. any help on this matter

[Audyssey] Suggestion for Tecno Shock

2007-02-26 Thread Samuel Wilkins
Hello, I think that for Tecno Shock, there could be a feature that you could
know what numbers you have got from the terminals. Also, there is a bug with
Tecno Shock, even with the patch. When I go and try and load a game, the game
freezes and I have to exit the game by pressing alt F4. This happens some times
but not others.

Um, wouldn't that sort of be like not learning the complicated rules of
chess because all you want to do is to play against a computer chess

 Dark.

No, there is no walk through for my golf game. I think that the best
thing that you could do is to practice on the putting practice green.
Putting is one of the more difficult aspects of the game of golf, but
 with

Re: [Audyssey] Building gaming pcs

I have heard bad things about del.
Ie support software and other baggage added to the system, call centre support
and not good support, the fact you can't remove software without reformatting,
that they are noisy and break and are not the system you would want on a
network and that they have issues, maybe they have improved.
At 06:54 p.m. 26/02/2007, you wrote:
My last 5 systems have ben Dells including desktops and laptops. I have

system on my last desktop at a very good price.
Before going to Dell, I used to build my own systems as well, and while
you do save a few bucks, I find the Dell systems have performed better and
with less incident with very high quality components, and I would reccomend
them to anyone looking to buy a system with the minimum of fuss.
I would at the same time highly reccomend not buying a system at Wal Mart
or CostCo or wherever as their prices are low for a reason they use cheap
components and cut corners at every opportunity, as friends of mine can
attest to who have had nothing but trouble with their Wal Mart junk.
The other two big players out there are Hewlett packard and Gateway, I
think HP has a good product, but Gateway has been notorious for having power
supply problems, but I haven't checked into that in the past few years.
Any way you go these days though, you are going to get a screaming fast

route you choose, even the Wal Mart crap is fairly reliable.

 Hi Jim,
I've generally found custom building your own pc, especially a gaming
pc, is much more reliable, and is more advanced than any store baught
solution manufactured off an assembly line from Del, Compaq, HP, etc...
You litterally get to choose every item that goes in to the computer
motherboard, processor, sound card, hard drive, etc.. You can pay as
much or as little as you wish.
For example, the Maxtor hard drives are usually cheaper than Quantum and
Western Digital, and sometimes show up in Wal-Mart e-machines. Well, I
happen to know from personal experience the Maxtor hard drives have a
very high failior rate where as Western Digital has been very very
 reliable.
Another area that really matters to us is the quality of sound.
Especially, when playing environmentally ritch games like Shades of
Doom. Your typical Gateway or Del computer gives you an AC-97 chipset.
Ok, for most users, but are crap for games. Instead of going that route
you can just pay the bucks and have an Audegy or X-Fi sound card which
 produces extremely ritch audio.
Finally, if you become a computer hobbiest, home builder, etc you can
get discounts on software which allows you to upgrade faster than the
general public. Me upgrading one of my systems to Vista this early.
It is this ability to pick and choose everything that makes a custom
build system much more powerful in the long run. The person who knows
about building computers can often pick and choose higher quality
materials which ends up with a more solid and robust system.
Having been building systems for myself and others for the passed 10
years one thing you get to know is different manufacturers products, and
can actually bench test them side by side. For example, AMD processors
are generally pretty good, but I think the Intel Pentium sometimes does
a bit of a better job, but at a much higher price. However, if cash is
tight the little bit of edge from the Pentium isn't worth it.

The dos computer was good for eight years. The windows only two. I have
been very happy with both of my Dell computers. I have never even broken
the seal on either of them. Just plug in the Triple Talk USB
synthesizer, joystick or external hard drive and away I go. No need to

Re: [Audyssey] Building gaming pcs was Important notice.

2007-02-26 Thread shaun everiss
Well I have up to around 3 years ago got prebuilt store systems.
Laptops excluded the first of these went grate.
The second was a nightmare.
The company we got it from was going bust.
You can probably guess why.
In the first year well 6 months to a year most of the components failed.
Within 2 days hard disks, cases, and other things failed, with in a year the
motherboard, fan, hard disks, power supply, sound card, video card and cd rom
failed.
Pluss when the sound card failed the cd rom that was connected to it failed.
The first time we got the system to the repair shop, the tech reformatted the
system, and gave it to us with no os or data on it.
The second time they did this and charged for transfer and backup.
After that my dad and I spent over 2000 rebuilding the system into working
order.
Its never been right.
My grandpa has it, but it doesn't support usb right, crashes loads has speaker
issues.
The next system was still store built.
Its still ok, crashed loads on win98, but now on xp its good.
2 years ago we got a system built for us.
In the last 2-4 years we have had it I have never had to reformat it.
At points its got close but I never have mentioned reformat to its face.
Its got a ghost image for restores.
THe only 2 problems occured during production and testing which were quickly
fixed by the pc builder, we used, one of our friends as it happens.
For some strange reason the video streams through windows media player and
quicktime do not run however thats about the only bad thing.
The only reason I don't reformat is that its the main server with all my
brothers stuff on it.
It would take to long to reload and besides it seems okish.
Is there anything like a custom laptop.
At 04:38 p.m. 26/02/2007, you wrote:
Hi Jim,
I've generally found custom building your own pc, especially a gaming
pc, is much more reliable, and is more advanced than any store baught
solution manufactured off an assembly line from Del, Compaq, HP, etc...
Well, I
happen to know from personal experience the Maxtor hard drives have a
very high failior rate where as Western Digital has been very very reliable.

 Hi Thomas,

That is cool that you can build your own computer and get a discount on the
price of the OEM software. I have never built a computer. Took one apart
once though. grin My brother used to build computers for me. The dos
computer was good for eight years. The windows only two. I have been very
happy with both of my Dell computers. I have never even broken the seal on
either of them. Just plug in the Triple Talk USB synthesizer, joystick or
external hard drive and away I go. No need to see what's inside. grin

I think my carrictoris very strange: I have a lot of marks of death, but I

Interesting ... is that the only thing you're having trouble training?
 You
might want to check your marks of death, since if you have any you can't
train anything. That's the best I can think of at the moment.

Hello, I think that for Tecno Shock, there could be a feature that you
could know what numbers you have got from the terminals. Also, there is a
bug with Tecno Shock, even with the patch. When I go and try and load a
game, the game freezes and I have to exit the game by pressing alt F4.
This happens some times but not others.

[Audyssey] going away sort of

2007-02-26 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi there everyone. Just an update that my Internet is shutting off on
the 28th. I'm not sure if my computer will be connected or packed by
then. In any case, I'll probably not be online for a couple of weeks
while we move from Colorado to Indiana. Once I'm established, I'll be
around some more.

In the mean time, if I get a chance, I'll monitor the list and still
help out in the background with moderator duties. However, if you notice
that messages which are moderated have not made it as quickly, remember
that Tom works full time and I'm not around as much for the next two
weeks. Just be patient and things will still work out.

All the best.
