Re: [Audyssey] hp questions

2007-04-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi nicol,
Yeah, since Sarah talked to one of the owners of the joke shop it would
have to be either Fred or George.
As phil pointed out the game takes place right after book 5, Order of
the Phoenix, and none of book 6's changes are really in this game. I
don't want to spoil the ending of 6 so I won't say more, but there are
good reasons why Phil might not wish to use the summer after book 6.
As for Professor Snape no one knew for certain he was a Death Eater.
Dumbledor always supported Snape right up until the end of book 6 when
Snape's actions speak loud enough for themself who's side he is really on.
As for the term Death Eater I don't know where the term comes from. All
I can say voldemort has discovered a dark magic that allows him to die
and return from the dead time after time, and unless Harry Potter and
friends locates his sources of power voldemort will continue to do so. I
might also add voldemortdoes have the power to raise the dead and create
Zombies.
For a cool place where Harry and Dumbledor fight such an army of
creatures wait until near the end of book 6 while they go on a quest. I
shall say nothing more about it here.
Smile.

 Hi there

As I've said earlier, the program is partially accessible with you being
allowed to control the trains, etc.
I agree it could be pointless to just drive around the tracks, unless of
course if you happen to pick a challenging route that has lots of curves,
ups and downs, a steam loco with a heavy load.
The challenge lies therein that you have to prevent the loco from coming
 to
a complete halt on an uphill part and not sliding back down again.
Or on a downhill part, it could be a challenge to keep your train under
control and not allow it to run away beyond control.
To achieve that you have to manipulate the engine's pressure, steam, and
other controls so that it has enough power built up to get over.
A perfect balance between enough steam on the one hand, and pressure on
 the
 other, needs to be maintained.

As for the English, I haven't updated my version of BE for almost 2 years
 now.
The site is Japanese, but if you download the available version, I am sure
there will b be some English to help you get along.
There's always the other sites I mentioned in my previous posting, with
 lots
and lots of resources, tips, hints, etc.

 Hi

We must distinguish between the two train sims in question: BVE and
 Spoorsim.
Spoorsim is the game that came with limited speech.
Driving a train is not only about controlling a loco's regulator and
 brake,
 especially a steam engine.
Amongst others, you get a lot of info from the various gages in your
locomotive, which helps you to better control your engine, which
incidentally, is spoken to you if speech is turned on in Spoorsim.

Two more things about the game:
 1. Spoorsim wasn't meant at all to be accessible for blind users, the
developer eventually just included some speech, after I approached him, to
see how we would get along with the game.
 2. The game as we played it, was also in it's initial stage of
 development,
I don't think that we could even call it a beta version.

in which case, just load a wave file.
 Heh!
If you're not a train fanatic, that's probably the thing to say.
 No offence taken though.

 Hi all,
Over the weekend I've been doing allot of thinking about the Monty game
engine which I had design to be generic enough to be applied to new
side-scrollers. However, it seams that many of you are really into the
FPS type games such as Shades of Doom, Sarah, Monkey Business, etc.
I know years ago side-scrollers were hugely popular in the sighted
gaming market and has produced some of the most popular games of all
time like Mario, Double Dragon, Legend of Kage, Castlevania, Megaman,
 etc...
I know from working on Monty they are relatively easy to make, adapt to
audio, and generally easy to learn and play.
However, as sighted game technology has advanced the First Person
Shooter was born. Games like Quake, Jedi Knight, Doom, etc began to be
very popular, and for the most part many sighted games are usually some
sort of FPS game and side-scrollers aren't what they use to be.
So my question is when I complete Montezuma's Revenge and Raceway would
you like me to continue to produce side-scrollers using the Monty 2D
game engine, or update the Monty engine to support more 3D FPS styles of
 play.
If we go with side-scrollers I can concieve of many clones of classic
side-scrollers like Double Dragon, Mario, Megaman, etc being produced.
In addition since there is more or less an engine I could create new
interesting side-scrollers like a Star Wars one where you explore the
death star kill storm troopers, gather items for points, and battle it
out with Vader or the Emperor. Just an idea like that.
If we go with FPS, (First Person Shooters,) then we can have games that
are like Elete Force, Jedi Knight, Quake, etc with 3D worlds and mazes.
Obviously things are more realistic, and navigation is harder to get
since we visually can't see it. Though, it seams games like Sarah and
SOD are hugely popular, and I'm uncertain as to which type of style the
 community really likes best.
Do you guys like FPS better or side-scrollers.
 Cheers.

Re: [Audyssey] ot contacting people directly

2007-04-20 Thread Niko C
the way smtp works though is that a person actually has to specify their
e-mail address twice. In the top of the smtp send command you need just the
e-mail address like [EMAIL PROTECTED] But in the headers of your e-mail,
you also need to specify from as in Niko C [EMAIL PROTECTED] But some
people's e-mail clients of services do not send the e-mail address just the
display name like niko C and that is it. In OE, you just se the display name
if that's all the person sends and if you want to actually see their e-mail
address you have to lok at the headers. That is one major disadvvantage of
it. Fortunately a lot of people send their e-mail addres in the from fieldso
you can see who it is from.

Re: [Audyssey] Possible Bug in Sarah

2007-04-20 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Ryan,
Well, the mirror used to be credited.
I think someone sneaked into my home and removed it from the game script
file.
it must have been He who must not be named.
I will check and fix it if you are correct.
Phil

I remember reading in your list of requirements for level 1 that the
 mirror
counted as one of the ten required objects. However, I have found that
 when
Dobby hands me the mirror upon entering the basement, I'm not given credit
for finding the object. If, as you say, the mirror counts toward
 completing
the chapter, how do I make sure I am given credit for finding it?

 Thanks,
 Ryan

2007-04-20 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Ryan,
I originally had the mirror as one of the ten items but removed it as it was
too easy to get and added a third headless hat.
I have also put the hats in specific locations rather than have them put
around at random which sometimes put them in places you could not get to.
I was making up that list from memory and sometimes that is not a good
thing.
