Re: [Audyssey] Mysteries Of The Aztecs FAQ.

2008-02-16 Thread Dark
Hi tom.

appologies for slightly repeating one already asked question, but while I'm
certainly looking forward to the new mysteries of the aztecs game, I do stil
rather like monti, and certainly haven't uninstalled it (especially if Mota
is going to change things so radically).

while I understand the reasons for not offering Montizuma's revenge, would
it be possible to rename the old Monti beta 9 game (with accompanying
changing soundbite), to something like Angela in Montizuma's temple, and
have it as an extra for people who'd already bought Mota.

I can just see in future, people wanting to play the old Monti levels, and
there being a lot of requests that you host them, so I'm thinking about
forstalling that first.

Appologies that this would mean yet another renaming, I'm just
remembering all the people (including me), who request to play old games,
such as self destruct, Tarzan Jr and danger city.

(I personally bought Tj back when Pb games was up and running, but I'm now
glad it's available for everyone).

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

OK. Let's get one thing straight here. Forget about the prices for a sec,
forget even Acefire. Let's talk X-Sight in general.
Right. What about Acefire preorders? Everybody messes up! I was being
bombarded with comments, advice and suggestions. Confusions is one of the
worst things to have to deal with as a beginner developer. As for
LightTech's free games, that's their decision to make it free, just like
it's my decision to charge for Acefire.
If you saw just how much testing this thing has been through, how much
 money
I've spent on it, how stressed out I got, not only from this but from all
other activity in my life, people nagging and pressurising me not just for
new features, this and that, but for personal issues as well, if I wasn't
 on
such a limited budget, if this didn't have to come out of my own money,
 for
your information, I could be thrown out of college because of my outside
activities. Not that it probably matters to you all who buy and play or
 use,
but to a developer, it's a lot of hard work. That code is 667kb in size,
21512 lines, and in my honest opinion I feel that your message was rather
rude on the subject of mistakes, messups and high prices.
I'm sorry Cory, but I think you need to sit down and try and develop a
 game
or piece of software and tell me then what it feels like as a first-timer.
All I can say is, for what Acefire is right now, and for what Dectalk
Scripter and Talking Timepiece will be in the future, I've bent over
backwards to add features that people are constantly requesting, and I
 said
that there's more to come in 2.0. I've got about forty different projects
I'm attempting to work on at once. When I'm working on Acefire, I've got
somebody contacting me about Danger City. When I work on Chopper
 Challenge,
I get someone contact me about Acefire. When I finally get to work on
 Danger
City, someone else will come along and ask about Dectalk Scripter.
No program is ever fully completed as we all know. Programs and games are
constantly getting updated, and I've developed for free for so long now,
buying custom made libraries, off-the-shelf libraries, sounds, music, and
 am
sick of getting nothing back for it. That's how devs get broke. I can't
 even
live, because I'm constantly working for X-Sight. I'm constantly roaming
 the
country staying at friend's house and eating their food.
I won't mention any names, but there's three people in particular who
encouraged me to sell this game, one of them himself being a developer.
 Now
I get a price/game release rebellion. I was told and advised to knock the
price down. I knocked the price down, making the pay very low for me.
If you'd rather I finished it there, developed for myself instead, I could
easily flush the whole lot down the toilet, take down the whole site, and
easily spend as much money as I've spent on X-Sight over the past two
 years
on a decent Yamaha Tyros II keyboard while still being able to buy my own
food and arrange to move over to the states to live and spend time with my
 girlfriend.
I'm sorry if this message appears harsh, but I feel you ought to know the
 long and short of it.
 Thanks.

 Damien

Hi, gamers I talk to, over here, would love a accessible cricket game to
play. Just how difficult would it be to turn a tried and trusted board game
such as Wicketz into a pc game for us cricket fans? I would gladly pay good
money for that. Jim Kitchen seems to have the expertise...Anyone out there in
the cricket playing world got the know how? 20 20 1 day or test anything would
be fantastic!

Re: [Audyssey] UK devs any1 4cricket

2008-02-16 Thread ari
Hi Mark,
I think at the moment, for cricket fans like us, and even football, it's
just a fantasy for the moment. These sports are so popular that, as I've
said forever, it would be great to give such projects to RNIB or, for the
football, let blind organisations all over Europe come together to produce a
mega game. As far as I'm concerned, if you want a really good cricket game
with teams, sounds, and commentary, that's probably not something you just
want one guy to do, you need much feedback, you need people from all over
the cricket world like us from South Africa, our Ausie, Kiwi, New Zealand
and English pals, and of course India, I mean, there are many blind people
in India, I actually would think that organisations could cooperate on a
cricket game as well. Well, at the moment, your only choice is Batrick, we
can do that in the meantime. When I think of a cricket game, I'm thinking of
some sort of solution where we could use stereo again, where, let's say, the
batsman has an area stretching from the far left to the far right, the
bowler tries and bowls, and the batsman maybe tries to move towards the ball
and hit it, he can hit it to different directions, but there are many other
complex things like fielding and things, I don't want a game where I just
press a number for the shot I want, I've always thought that sports games
should really most of the time hardly ever be down to luck, and that, if you
time or do your moves exactly according to extreme split-second timing, you
should get results, because a sports game like cricket and football for me,
quite a bit of the time it can work a little bit on randomness, but rather
also work on whether you're able to keep focus and concentrate, or, if you
use some players and make them run too much, they get tired.
Ari

 Hi people.

As I am not a moderater or anything similar, it is probably not my place
to say, but I am getting slightly tired of reading E-mails going ballistic
 over acefire.

Legitimately cryticising or defending the game in a calm and reasonable
manner is fine (it's what this list is for), but these constant Acefire
is an awful game or E-mails are taking up valuable list time, and getting
 everyone immotional and upset.

Whatever we think of any game, will people please remember that someone
has spent time writing thousands of lines of code, collecting sfx etc to
make it happen. As I said, it's quite reasonable to then take a good look
at that game, and recommend improvements or suggestions, but just sending
long wrants about it's awfullness does nobody any good.

The same with the price issue. Remember that if this were a mainstream
game you'd never have chance to even speak to the devs about the
price, - in fact a good percentage of the price would be going to the
retailer who sold the game anyway.

If you find the price unreasonable, explain your reasons calmly,
bbut also remember that it is up to damien to set the price, and up
to you to buy or not buy the game as you see fit.

can we please! have a litle maturity here!

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

MONEY, you are entitled to your opinion, but I am asking to keep it to

costs, alot. No ones forcing you to buy it, so don't. If you can't do

[Audyssey] MOTA Poll Update.

2008-02-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hello gamers,
I just wanted to drop a little note to let everyone know what the
current status of the Mysteries Of The Aztecs poll results are. So far
it looks like a pretty close race, but the side-scroller style seams to
be leading the voting. Here is the results as of 10:30 AM Feb. 16.

3D FPS: 7
2D Side-Scroller: 9

Cheers.

For god's sake! If you're not happy with the price, don't buy it! Quit
crying to all of us how everything should be free, everything should be
handed to us on a silver platter, totally free, just because we're blind. We
can't see, so don't make us pay, is the general idea i'm getting from all
your messages, either that or you're just saying Screw AceFire, we don't
like it. If this is the case, then take it off list, take it up with the
developer of AceFire. Make your own audio game, put a price on it and see
how many orders you get!

Re: [Audyssey] UK devs any1 4cricket

2008-02-16 Thread Mark Pemberton
Hi Ari, I like your ideas but partly why I mentioned a cricket board game
already popular and in existence is because that must be a easier option to
get a cricket game off the ground. The dev wouldn't have to be an expert in
the game, just convert the written rules and give it some atmospheric sound
effects and playability. The 20 20 version would also be an easier version
of the game to start
off with. But hey! What do I know about programming?

 Hi Mark,
I think at the moment, for cricket fans like us, and even football, it's
just a fantasy for the moment. These sports are so popular that, as I've
said forever, it would be great to give such projects to RNIB or, for the
football, let blind organisations all over Europe come together to produce
 a
When I think of a cricket game, I'm thinking
 of
some sort of solution where we could use stereo again, where, let's say,
 the
batsman has an area stretching from the far left to the far right, the
bowler tries and bowls, and the batsman maybe tries to move towards the
 ball
and hit it, he can hit it to different directions, but there are many
 other
complex things like fielding and things, I don't want a game where I just
press a number for the shot I want, I've always thought that sports games
should really most of the time hardly ever be down to luck, and that, if
 you
time or do your moves exactly according to extreme split-second timing,
 you
should get results, because a sports game like cricket and football for
 me,
quite a bit of the time it can work a little bit on randomness, but rather
also work on whether you're able to keep focus and concentrate, or, if you
use some players and make them run too much, they get tired.
 Ari

 Hi Dark,
Hmmm... I have to think about that some. I am currently waiting on all
the poll results to come in before I make a decision like that. Though,
as of this mornings voting it seams there are definitely a small
majority that are in favor of more side-scrollers for the audio games

Anyway, if the side-scroller style remains than it is safe to say we

 Thanks.
 Regards,
 Damien

Yeah. Just listen to that music it's unbelievable! You really have to think
things over Nicol before
you post. Try getting a vb editor, some vb libraries, and the actual software;
make
software, spend hours debugging, testing, etc.

Then spend hundreds of dollars on sounds and music. Plus the registration
library set
Damien around 30 bucks.

So just try that. Are your brains coming out your ears yet?

If you do not like it, do not buy it. Simple as that.

Cmmon guys, keep the piece...

And I agree with you all. Stop complaining. Damien spent a lot of time on this,

20 dollars, and you just are like no, no, I won't even look at it because it's

Then, just don't buy the thing.

Re: [Audyssey] Acefire price

Exactly. Have fun trying and trying to get the syntax correct. It's not just
slapping a
bunch of commands together, books I read define this as programming:
A list of commands to get a computer to do something

This is not correct. Things have to be placed in a specific order so it all
makes sense.
And an error we get all the time in vb 6: end without if or whatever. Things
have to be typed
exactly, if you forget, for example to put
end if
at the end of a check then... This is off topic, all I mean is, that it's
difficult, it's
Mr. Sadler's first game, so, cut him some slack guys!

OK. Let's get one thing straight here. Forget about the prices for a
sec,
forget even Acefire. Let's talk X-Sight in general.
Right. What about Acefire preorders? Everybody messes up! I was being
bombarded with comments, advice and suggestions. Confusions is one of
the
worst things to have to deal with as a beginner developer. As for
LightTech's free games, that's their decision to make it free, just like
it's my decision to charge for Acefire.
If you saw just how much testing this thing has been through, how much
money
I've spent on it, how stressed out I got, not only from this but from
all
other activity in my life, people nagging and pressurising me not just
for
new features, this and that, but for personal issues as well, if I
wasn't
on
such a limited budget, if this didn't have to come out of my own money,
for
your information, I could be thrown out of college because of my outside
activities. Not that it probably matters to you all who buy and play or
use,
but to a developer, it's a lot of hard work. That code is 667kb in size,
21512 lines, and in my honest opinion I feel that your message was
rather
rude on the subject of mistakes, messups and high prices.
I'm sorry Cory, but I think you need to sit down and try and develop a
game
or piece of software and tell me then what it feels like as a
first-timer.
All I can say is, for what Acefire is right now, and for what Dectalk
Scripter and Talking Timepiece will be in the future, I've bent over
backwards to add features that people are constantly requesting, and I
said
that there's more to come in 2.0. I've got about forty different
projects
I'm attempting to work on at once. When I'm working on Acefire, I've got
somebody contacting me about Danger City. When I work on Chopper
Challenge,
I get someone contact me about Acefire. When I finally get to work on
Danger
City, someone else will come along and ask about Dectalk Scripter.
No program is ever fully completed as we all know. Programs and games
are
constantly getting updated, and I've developed for free for so long now,
buying custom made libraries, off-the-shelf libraries, sounds, music,
and
am
sick of getting nothing back for it.

I was told and advised to knock
the
price down. I knocked the price down, making the pay very low for me.
If you'd rather I finished it there, developed for myself instead, I
could
easily flush the whole lot down the toilet, take down the whole site,
and
easily spend as much money as I've spent on X-Sight over the past two
years
on a decent Yamaha Tyros II keyboard while still being able to buy my
own
food and arrange to move over to the states to live and spend time with
my
girlfriend.
I'm sorry if this message appears harsh, but I feel you ought to know
the
long and short of it.
Thanks.
Regards,
Damien

Re: [Audyssey] Mysteries Of The Aztecs FAQ.

2008-02-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,
Hmmm... I have to think about that some. I am currently waiting on all
the poll results to come in before I make a decision like that. Though,
as of this mornings voting it seams there are definitely a small
majority that are in favor of more side-scrollers for the audio games
market.I like both styles so I haven't added my vote to the numbers yet.
Anyway, if the side-scroller style remains than it is safe to say we
probably won't need the old Monte game any more.

Dark wrote:
 Hi tom.

appologies for slightly repeating one already asked question, but while I'm
certainly looking forward to the new mysteries of the aztecs game, I do stil
rather like monti, and certainly haven't uninstalled it (especially if Mota
is going to change things so radically).

while I understand the reasons for not offering Montizuma's revenge, would
it be possible to rename the old Monti beta 9 game (with accompanying
changing soundbite), to something like Angela in Montizuma's temple, and
have it as an extra for people who'd already bought Mota.

 Dark.

that darn thing should be free. Bet lite tech has spent more
time
programming there free games then you did. I'm sorry, but it's
most likely
true. Plus, you have had so many screw ups. Like the hole ready
for preorder
and stuff. That broke. In my respectful openyan, it may come
across the
wrong way, wich I know it is, but it's just not worth paying for.
Sorry, but
that's how I feel.

Rock,

Cory

 Hello gamers,
I just wanted to drop a little note to let everyone know what the
current status of the Mysteries Of The Aztecs poll results are. So far
it looks like a pretty close race, but the side-scroller style seams to
be leading the voting. Here is the results as of 10:30 AM Feb. 16.

 3D FPS: 7
 2D Side-Scroller: 9

 Cheers.

The bottom line is: jim's monopoly game has much more randomizing.
I played numerous games and its interesting how many times I beat the

And its also interesting how many times me or the computer land on free

Its a lot more randomizing than ace fire and he doesn't charge for it.
Or what do you say, jim?
Or take the last crusade. It also has a lot more randomizing than ace fire.
And yet its free.
If it was a brilliant fps game being released yes then its unreasonable to

Subject: [Audyssey] Moderator Message Acefire price

 Hi everyone,
I've read most of the messages in this topic, and I feel many of you
could have worded things differently, could have been a little more
constructive, and bottom line your complaints should go specificly to
the company or person you have the complaint with.
Yes I know many of you are unhappy about the price of Acefire, but do
remember it is Damiens game. As its developer, owner, and creator he
reserves the right to decide how much he is going to charge for his
game. If you don't like the price you can suggest he lower it, if you
ask nicely, but complaining and calling the game crap isn't going to
earn anyones respect If you don't think the game is worth the money
simply choose not to purchase the game.
Before this topic blows up into a full blown argument or flame war I
feel I must ask all of you to either calm down, be more constructive
about your comments, or close the topic.
 Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] Acefire price

2008-02-16 Thread Chrissy
hi all
what is all this about?
somebody developes a game and people demand it'd be free? how ridiculous. i
am all for getting something freeand not having to pay but how can one start
telling others what they are supposed to do with their owngames? there is
still like 50 mails whodeal with what one should or shouldn't charge.
kindergarden stuff.

if you do not think it is worth it then do not purchase just like one does
with any item out on the market.
i don't understand what the fuss is all about. in the meantime stick to the
free games as i have to do cause i am on a tight budge and have to choose
wisely what to invest in.
tarzan junior comes to mind, abandonware and free for all now in the full
version. but do not tell others what to do with their own merchandise.

[Audyssey] lower than bsc ok for games?

2008-02-16 Thread ari
Hi all,
This is quite a tricky question, I suppose this goes to our developers
like Thomas. I have a friend who, his situation is a bit tricky, in that
he's not sure what to do, he wants to develop Information Systems for
businesses, but he would also like to try his hand at games developing. Now,
his problem is this, to get into the bsc of computer science, you need maths
and science, but he didn't do science at school, so he can't get into the
BSC. Some people say that you need physics to be able to program games, to
like understand speeds and distances and things, but is this really
necessary? Instead of doing a BSC, he can do a diploma in IT at a college,
or, at the uni, he can do a BCom in Information Systems. If he were to do
the Information Systems BCom, would the programming which he would pick up,
where he would learn to make Information Systems, be OK for him to develop,
even maybe some basic games? I know he'd like to do the BCOM, as his main
goal is to develop business systems, but do you think he'd be able to also
develop games and programs with it? I'm unfortunately not sure what the
diploma in IT teaches, but is a BSC really necessary to understand things
like Artificial Intelligence or to program computer games? Sorry, I know
this sounds a bit confused, but, basically, I think what I want to know is,
do you really need a top-of-the-range BSC in computer science to be a good
games developer. He has enough maths to do a diploma in IT, or a BCom
Information Systems, but his physics and science is really not good.
Ari

[Audyssey] /montefun stuff with tomb hunter

Hi tom I hope this is ok, since the sounds were not encrypted I opened them in
gold wave
and played with the pitch settings. And lol I found something funny. The lava,
when sped up,
sort of sounds like a running sink. Kinda funny. The fire slowed down sounds a
little bit like
clapping. Lol experimenting with these sounds is cool.

I also discovered that each key made a different pitch. I always knew that but
I know why now.

Yeah. Just listen to that music it's unbelievable! You really have to
 think things over Nicol before
you post. Try getting a vb editor, some vb libraries, and the actual
 software; make
software, spend hours debugging, testing, etc.

Then spend hundreds of dollars on sounds and music. Plus the registration
 library set
 Damien around 30 bucks.

So just try that. Are your brains coming out your ears yet?

If you do not like it, do not buy it. Simple as that.

little game my friend and I used to play, you have three batsmen, then you
take a dice. You throw it, and one, two, three, four and six are for runs,
and a five is a wicket. You use your three batsmen, and he uses his. For the
toss, you do one chooses odd, and the other even, the winner decides whether
to bowl or bat first, and you do as many innings or balls in an innings as
you want. We also devised a more complicated cricket game using dice, but
I've forgotten a bit how it worked, I will actually write an article about

[Audyssey] Moderator close topic final warning!

2008-02-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hello everyone,
Please, close this topic immediately. This is way out of hand. I am
right now personally taking charge of this situation, and I probably
will be placing a couple of individuals on temperary moderation until
they can learn to control themselves.
Nicol, as for your threats to contact his college, the President,
whoever about how much he wants to charge for his game, no matter how
you dislike it, is not illegal. IN fact, I would suspect the President
nor Damien's college would care for your endless wining and complaining
about the game.
Further more from what I have read from your posts they come off very
childish, rude, inflamitory, and based on the two messages below I feel
you should belong on moderation until you are willing to grow up and act
your age. Neither you or anyone else is allowed at any time to threaten
another member of the list at any time for any reason.

[Audyssey] I am really worried, we could lose another game dev again

2008-02-16 Thread Stephen
Hi.
from what I can gather, some people are put off by acefire's price,
and the fact that you can finish the game in a matter of minutes.
What we're seeing is exactly the same situation as with.. another game dev,
a few idiots get the dev all angry, the game dev starts lashing out
at everyone around him, then throws a fit and threatens to pull his site.
if you want to be a game developer, then you need to have really thick skin.
As a developer, he should be asking himself, why are people giving me
so much grief?, what is it about the game they dont like?
In no way am I trying to say what these idiots are doing is right,
but punishing everyone because of a couple of trouble makers doesn't
really achieve anything.

Re: [Audyssey] /monte fun stuff with tomb hunter

2008-02-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Andy and all,
I don't mind if you play with the sounds. All I ask is that you don't
use them for your own comercial use since I either created the sounds
myself, purchased them, or received them as part of my Alchemy deal.
I suppose one form of security I might use is simply add water marks
into the files so that when it is opened in Media Player or Real Player
it will show the file is registered to me.
However, my views are quite different from other developers. I usually
don't care if you tinker with the files or put in your own sounds if it
makes you happy playing the game.

Andy Smith wrote:
Hi tom I hope this is ok, since the sounds were not encrypted I opened them
 in gold wave
and played with the pitch settings. And lol I found something funny. The
 lava, when sped up,
sort of sounds like a running sink. Kinda funny. The fire slowed down sounds
 a little bit like
clapping. Lol experimenting with these sounds is cool.

I also discovered that each key made a different pitch. I always knew that
 but I know why now.
It's for the colors. There's blue key red key and white key I think. I didn't
 steal the
sounds, just opened them up in goldwave and sped them up, then restored them
 to the original
settings. It's kinda cool actually how creative people can do.

As I said the lava sounds like a running sink with an echo when sped up.
 Kinda cool.

[Audyssey] Sharing Montezuma's Return.

2008-02-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Andy and all,
I am sorry, but I have to ask that everyone not share the old
Montezuma's Return game around while I think of how to deal with it. The
game contains certain copyright violations that USA Games is doing our
best to correct and change. Sharing around the Montezuma's Return beta
isn't going to help USA Games do that.
Yes, Mysteries Of the Aztecs is going to be a different game, but we
have been showing a growing majority, especially among, paid users that
want MOTA to be a side-scroller and keep many of the same elements as
Monte. So my guess is Mysteries Of the Aztecs will be similar to Monte
without the copyrights in many ways.

Andy Smith wrote:
If it's ok with Mister Ward I could put beta 9 on sendspace but that probably
 would be a
 violation of the copyright. Right?

 Hi Mark,
I think at the moment, for cricket fans like us, and even football, it's
just a fantasy for the moment. These sports are so popular that, as I've
said forever, it would be great to give such projects to RNIB or, for the
football, let blind organisations all over Europe come together to produce
 a
 Ari
