[Audyssey] Kingdom of Loathing Discussion

2008-07-08 Thread K. Mathew
Kind of ran into a snag. So I got mad in game and got drunk. J

If there are guides by chance out there to help out, let me know as well.

Anyways. I'm doing a quest, and I have to go kill the Boss Bat. Prob is, I
can't get past the stinking room. . . I looked around for something that
would help me pass that area, only thing I seen was a Oder Remover syringe
on the wrong side of track area in the Bounty hunter store. Is this what
I'm needing?

Thanks

2008-07-08 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Aiden and Thomas,

Thank you very much for the explanation of what the kernel is. My old dos
computer does not have a kernel file and it can run Windows 3.1. So I guess I
ran computers for over 20 years without a kernel file on them. Sorry, just
curious now as to what was the first version of Windows to implement the kernel
file thing. Wondering if it wasn't the first version of windows that was not
just a program that ran on top of dos. That would be XP or something like that
right?

Snickers. I seen you in the chat room. I was telling you how to do it.

Spoiler

Go get a better weapon if possible. I was using Wooden Stakes. Go to each
one of the rats that is unvisted linked. Until you find a rat water tap,
turn it off.

Oh and save 6 of those firecrackers for the right side of the tracks, you
will need them.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Audyssey] psp

2008-07-08 Thread Tom Randall
Hi Tyler and all.

Ok that is excellent, there is an eb games right down the road from me.
I will have to give them a call and see if they have any in.

The case that I have is not really designed to let you carry it in your
pocket, it is a bit too thick and has too much padding for that. It has
this little metal karabiner thing that lets you attach the case to your
belt loop if you want to, I personally don't do that very much at all,
there is too much potential to bash the psp into something that you come
too close to when walking. So what I do is to carry it in my backpack
which I almost always have anyway. Of course it goes without saying
that if you do this you want to be careful that the psp is on top of the
stuff in your pack and not under it so it doesn't get squished. These
hard aluminum cases sound very nifty and something that just about
anyone who values their psp should have, I am definitely going to go
check one out when I can.

Thanks lots for the info.

To get past the stench barrier, adventure in the entrance and kill pine bats
I believe, until you get a pine fresh air freshener. this will give you

This might be out of your league at the moment, but there's also a boss down
in the tavern cellar you can kill for a rather nice item. Baron Von
Ratsworth. He's kind of hard to find, you usually have to go past the rat
tap and keep exploring until you see him. He's not necessary to kill to
complete the ques tthough.

Re: [Audyssey] Puppy1 keyboard Issues

2008-07-08 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Jim,
As was stated before every single operating system ever created has a
kernel responcible for providing core functionality for the operating
system. Just because the kernel doesn't have the name kernel in the file
name doesn't mean there isn't one present. In fact in my experience most
operating system kernels have obscure file names.
Using your example of MS Dos 6.2 and windows 3.1 there certainly was a
kernel. In MS Dos 6.2 and earlier the kernel was located in the file
msdos.sys. In Windows 95, 98, and ME the kernel was relocated to io.sys.
As to your question what was the first Windows version to run without MS
Dos I believe it was Windows NT 4.0. The corporate versions of windows
such as Windows NT were light years ahead of the Windows software
available to the general home user base. While the rest of us were
getting Windows 95, 98, ME corporations were getting Windows NT and
eventually Windows 2000 Pro. Around 2000 I switched to corporate
versions of Windows such as Windows 2000 for this very reason. I saw
that the corporate versions were a much better product, and the home
users were getting shafted by getting an infurior product.
As it happens Windows Milennium did turn a lot of customers off, and
Microsoft couldn't really do much more to improve the old Windows 9x
series of Windows releases. So they got smart and turned back to the
windows NT platform for their next major windows release. On October 25,
2001 Microsoft announced the release of windows XP which is probably the
best os they ever wrote to this date. While I think Vista is ok XP has
turned into a really robust and reliable os for a lot of people. the
power of XP really has to do with the stability from windows NT, 2000,
and the multimedia features taken from 98 and Millennium. Basically, the
best of both worlds rolled into one single os.

[Audyssey] achaea?

2008-07-08 Thread jaliya skye
Hi there:

Does anyone play Achaea? My best friend is an achaea addict, and I'm
wondering who else plays there as I'm looking for people to hang out with.
Well, I'm looking to create a character on there but I hate not knowing
anyone going in. and it might be fun to work out an rp history before I log
on so that I have in-character ties to someone.

Not to mention that I'm curious as to how you deal with the prompts and the
like.

You can either write me off list or reply here, maybe we can get together in
game.

anyhow, take care.

Warmly,
Jaliya

Hello Jaliya,
I am currently a monk of the House Ashura in the city of Ashtan. I am
level 25 and my characters name is Ilanthas. This mud does rely alot on
triggers and the like. There is a very good player base and they have
two dedicated newbie guides who are very helpful. They have lots of
good quests and areas that are designed for those under the level of 21.
There is also a clan for those of us who are blind. it is called Clan
TBRP. As far as the prompts go you can have it on or off. If you have
it on you can decide what you want displayed. My email is
[EMAIL PROTECTED] There are other blind players on there beside me but I
am not sure who all they are because I am still a relative newbie. Any
questions dont hesitate to ask. I will try and answer them as best I can.
Sincerely,
Greg

2008-07-08 Thread shaun everiss
jim this aint true, dos has a kernal, but windows up to 95 was a shell over
that.
Ofcause things were much simpler than they are.
The system was controled by 2 configuration files, programs had their own files
and no central locations.
In windows 95-98 you still had this to a lesser degree pluss the startup
folders and the central configuration bank called registry.
In these nt bassed systems you don't have this as such.
There is a boot loader called ntldr, a kernal file or several that make up this.
There is an ntdetect.com file so there is a really low level dos kernal in xp.
I know there still is an io.sys to.
Msdos.sys has been replaced by boot.ini.
Its the only text file in boot up.

At 09:51 p.m. 8/07/2008, you wrote:
Hi Aiden and Thomas,

Thank you very much for the explanation of what the kernel is. My old dos
computer does not have a kernel file and it can run Windows 3.1. So I guess I
ran computers for over 20 years without a kernel file on them. Sorry, just
curious now as to what was the first version of Windows to implement the
kernel file thing. Wondering if it wasn't the first version of windows that
was not just a program that ran on top of dos. That would be XP or something
like that right?

Re: [Audyssey] achaea?

2008-07-08 Thread Shadow Dragon
I've tried playing the iron realms several times, they have pretty advanced
mechanics. My problem is that they enforce their roleplay way too heavily,
and a lot of it doesn't make sense. For example, having to write a massive
essay on why you want to join the warriors guild, and going through an
entire interview process. I can see this maybe for a high-ranking sorcerers
guild, but you'll never see that for some of the classes they have in those
games, like the monk-based classes or the warrior/knight classes. I dunno.
If they made a non-roleplaying game I'd most definitely give it a try, but I
don't think that's going to happen.

Hello,
This is not true for Achaea. I did not have to write anything to become
a member of a house or city. Achaea is actually pretty laid back.
There is roleplay but there are also channels for ooc.

 Hello Jaliya,
I am currently a monk of the House Ashura in the city of Ashtan. I am

good quests and areas that are designed for those under the level of 21.
There is also a clan for those of us who are blind. it is called Clan

 Sincerely,
 Greg

It was fixed right away. Better to let people fix problems rather then
calling attention to them. That's Foolish.

Hello. Achea has a bit of a learning curve, but it can be fun. There are
houses you can join along with cities. The combat system is a bit
different, if you want to create a character, let me know. I'd go by
ardgon on there, would need to create that character.

Does anyone play Achaea? My best friend is an achaea addict, and I'm

Well, I'm looking to create a character on there but I hate not knowing
anyone going in. and it might be fun to work out an rp history before
 I log
on so that I have in-character ties to someone.

Not to mention that I'm curious as to how you deal with the prompts and
 the
  like.

You can either write me off list or reply here, maybe we can get
 together in
  game.

  anyhow, take care.

  Warmly,
