[Audyssey] games we'd like to play: Going Blind

2008-11-10 Thread Bryan Peterson
Well I've been wanting to try writing one of these for a while, so here goes.
Introducing the newest title from BP-Games, Going Blind. Inspired by the
phrase Going Postal and the computer game of the same name, Going Blind puts
you in the shoes of Jack Black, a young blind man fresh out of college. Black
has recently suffered through a long and fruitless job search consisting of one
humiliating and demeaning rejection after another. Though initially willing to
hang on, Black is pushed over the edge when, following his most recent failed
job interview, he experienced a cartoon style nightmare in which all his
would-be employers band together to taunt him about his inability to find work
and, in their words, get a life. Now it's time for action!
Going Blind plays very similar to the mainstream title The Simsons: Hit and
Run. You wander the streets of a city, interacting with various characters,
collecting items and completing tasks. The game includes the following features;
Realistic audio environments
Full voice cast
Sapi support for menus
Mouse, gamepad and Joystick support
An optional laptop layout
Aside from all these features, you might just be able to do all sorts of
whacky things. Here are just a few of them.
Pick fights with the locals
Commandeer several different types of vehicles and go on a rampage through the
streets
Find money to buy cool rewards
Maybe even pick up a few pals to help you on your way
Trash the town!
Look for this awesome title from BP-Games in the summer of 2009.

[Audyssey] Sryth: Deleting Characters

2008-11-10 Thread William L. Houts

Hi All,

I'm having difficulty finding the link on Sryth which allows you to delete
existing characters. I would expect it to be either on the same screen as
the "create new character" link or somewhere in the accounts menu, but I
don't seem to hear it. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Bill

2008-11-10 Thread Michael Forzano
Hi,I Was only answering questions that players have asked. On the matter of
Cosmos, I have already said what I have to say. Since the game is made up of
copied/stolen code, I feel that the future players should know so they can
make aneducated decision about what muds to play.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi,
This game is a HumanityMOO/Miriani clone. Miriani in ideas/content and
HumanityMOO in code. For example, when you go there you get a receiver
only
communicator, just like Miriani. You also have a similar creation
system.

Just the areas are different, ship classes, and stargates instead of
jumpgates, but the only activities are salvaging and deliveries (both
copied
off HumanityMOO). I'd advise not going there. Miriani has much more
content
if you want a game like that.

2008-11-10 Thread Ryan Smith
Hi,
First off, I don't make accusations, etc, without at least some
probable cause. Here, we have hard evidence. I was a programmer on
your moo, enough to see that it's all stolen code. As far as Miriani,
I've never played it, so I wouldn't know. Let's not subject this list
to a, 'I didn't take code, 'Yes you did, we have evidence' argument,
or any argument at all for that matter.
Thank you.

No, it was coded by me. And I don't give you permission to run it, because
you betrayed my trust, etc.

And, thanks Sean. To answer your questions I remember that you asked, when
you die your corpse ends up where you died, you'd have to find it. If you
jumped out of the copter, you'll land and see a place before you die.
However, the death system has been entirely rewritten since you last played.

Thanks.

well I wish there were more scifi moos around that one could play that did not
shut down for no reason what so ever.
I know this sounds like a grumble which it is but oh well.
Mike you should get a mail explaining why I can't play currently on your mud,
Its probably due to my msn times and yours not fitting as I don't go on much
unless I have something to do.
otherwise its a good mud, I actually will play seriously once I get my issues
sorted and not monky ie not jump out the copter, and not leap off the roof of
the cafe although it was a rather lol thing.

Hi,
I agree. Although Tristan refuses to admit it, Cosmos, is a code clone
of Humanity Moo. The coding is exactly the same, no coding style
difference what-so-ever, not even variables are different. There is a
difference between learning and downright stealing.
I don't want to start a flame, my intentions are not, and I don't see
how it would.
Even though he stole everything he could, I do give Tristan credit for
running a Moo, and keeping it up as long as he has. I know I couldn't
have done that.

Re: [Audyssey] Games For Symbian Phones

2008-11-10 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Milos,
Well, the reason you and others aren't getting much feedback is in lrge
part to the fact there aren't really any accessible games for Symbian
phones. Most accessible games that do exist are for Windows computers.
There are a few for Windows Mobile devices like smart phones with
Windows Mobile, but Symbian devices just aren't a very attractive target
environment for accessible games right now.
Most accessible game developers write game for pleasure and fun. I do
myself, but I also charge for my work. Since I don't have a Symbian
phone I don't have apersonal need for any Symbian based games, and then
I'd be doing it for money. I'm not sure exactly how many blind Symbian
phone users there are, but I'd expect to make enough sales on the games
to make it worth my time.

I am new on this list, so I am sorry if the question I would like to ask
has already been discussed here.
I have a Symbian phone Nokia 6600 and I am using Talks. So I am interested
to know if there is any game that I can play on my phone?

Thank you for your help,

The same company that makes mobile speak, use to have some games for mobile
phones. Sadly, do to their games no longer being supported by them, their
mobile games are now gone. The folks at "Braille Soft" I believe are going
to fill the gap there.

[Audyssey] Notes from Draconis Entertainment: Behind the Veil

2008-11-10 Thread Draconis Entertainment

Greetings gamers,

If you've been wondering what was happening with Draconis
Entertainment, it's time to lift just the corner of the veil of
secrecy for a quick peek.

First, if you've tried to contact us in recent weeks and not received
a response, or have placed an order and not yet received your
registration key, our web host has been having some significant
problems with our email servers. We were not aware of the existence
of these problems, nor the extent to which they were effecting us,
until recently, as email would sometimes be fine, and other times get
lost in the ether. Please contact us again if you're still waiting
for a response. Chances are, our reply or your original message was a
casualty. We believe that our web host has corrected the problem.

For quite some time, we've been developing new tools and techniques
for the future of accessible gaming. The fruits of those efforts are
coming together at long last, and we will have new games to release in
short order.

What can you expect to see from Draconis Entertainment? The following
are some of our plans. They are subject to change.

1. All future game titles will be fully cross-platform for both Mac
OS X and Windows XP/Vista. Versions of the games for both operating
systems will always be released simultaneously.

2. Our first new release will be a freebie game, available to all on
the web site.

3. Following the freebie game, we will be releasing both brand-new
titles, as well as entirely rewritten versions of our classic games
which will take advantage of our new gaming engines and be cross-
platform for Mac and Windows. These releases will be staggered
between new games and new versions of old games.

4. New versions of old games will be substantially enhanced from
previous versions with tons of new features, audio, and in many cases
new modes of game play, or entirely new sub-games.

5. We expect new game releases to come much more quickly, now that the
framework for the future has been designed and is well underway. We
hope to avoid problems like those experienced under Vista.

More soon, and thank you for sticking with us during this time of
transition.

[Audyssey] USA Games News 11/10/2008

2008-11-10 Thread Thomas Ward

USA Games News

Nov. 10, 2008

Introduction

Greetings gamers,
Welcome to the November issue of the USA Games News. Admittedly there is

not a lot of news to report this month, but what I do have to say is

good news. Especially, for those waiting for USA Games to release

Mysteries of the Ancients.
Since mid September USA Games has been exclusively been working on

Mysteries of the Ancients in every ounce of free time we can spare on

the project. As a result there is nothing to report on USA Raceway,

Final Conflict II, and other projects we are working on. So I plan to

devote this entire news letter to Mysteries of the Ancients. With that

said let's get to the news.

Tomb Hunter
Mysteries of the Ancients

In the last issue of the USA Games News we told you that we had decided

to go back to the .NET based engine with Microsoft DirectX 9.0C for the

initial release of MOTA instead of the newer Java engine we were

working on. We are happy to announce that work on the .NET based

version of the game is going very very well. Fortunately for us we

already had put several months into the .NET based engine so it was

merely a matter of picking up where we had left off. As a result we are

beginning to actually get back on schedule, and we are closing in on a

stable test release for the private testers with in the month. Assuming

that test release is stable enough to go public it is possible that a

new demo may appear before Christmas. It all depends on if the new game

is stable enough to post at that time.
One of the questions that often comes up off list is what is different

about MOTA vs Montezuma's Revenge? That is a good question. Lots

really. There are both technical changes as well as many changes in

game play. The game's story also has been completely rewritten from

scratch to give the game a new and interesting plot. Below is a

description of the game and its new story.
The story. After Dr. Angela Carter receives a long lost Greek epic

about a mysterious Orb of Wisdom, created by the Goddess Athena, Angela

travels to Greece in search of the lost Orb of Wisdom. After quite a

lot of research Angela eventually locates an under ground labyrinth

where Athena had hidden the orb. Little does Angela know that this is

the beginning of her troubles.
Inside the underground labyrinth she must over come various traps

including: poison darts, metal spikes, pits of boiling lava, and

towering walls of fire. She must fight or flee several creatures like:

fire throwing centaurs, sword wielding skeleton warriors, and flying

harpies. Inside the temple Angela will locate various dropped items

such as daggers, swords, a bow and arrow, guns and ammo packs left

behind by previous explorers, ancient reed torches, various gold coins,

and more. If Angela Carter makes it to the Hall of Wisdom alive she

must defeat a giant dragon before she can possess the Orb of Wisdom.
Besides the story the engine itself has undergone months of redesign

and work. When I had initially created Montezuma's Revenge it was

created to be a stand alone game. That is all of the game's code was

designed specifically for that single game. When I began work on MOTA I

decided to start over with the game engine. What sets this new engine

apart from the old engine is that MOTA itself is a modified version of

the Genesis 3D engine designed to support 2D side-scrollers instead of

3D FPS games. What is nice about this is it has a common game core with

our Genesis engine so what changes we make to the engine can be easily

plugged into MOTA in future updates. Here is a real life example of how

sharing a common game core works to our advantage.
About a week ago while testing the latest test build of MOTA I

discovered Angela would not pick up certain items, open doors, or kill

monsters if they were to her left. It worked fine if they were to her

right. I eventually traced the error back to the GetDirection()

function which is contained in Genesis3D.dll for calculating the

direction to monsters, items, doors, whatever. I had messed up the

formula on accident when writing that function and I was getting some

pretty off the wall results. I corrected the formula, recompiled the

dll, and suddenly everything worked fine. Since games like Raceway and

STFC also depend on the Genesis3D.dll for many in game calculations,

Sapi support, etc as soon as I fixed the error in the dll all of my

current projects were simultaneously fixed at once. I modified one

file, one formula, and since the Genesis3D.dll is in a common build

directory the next time I compile STFC, Raceway, or something else the

new changes will take effect. Pretty cool eh?

Bottom line, I've put a lot of time and energy into making Mysteries of

the Ancients very stable, error free, and making it more modular based.

With the new engine being designed as it has it will be easier to

maintain, and upgrade as needed.
aside from the many technical changes in the upg

Re: [Audyssey] Gaming Galaxy: Organizing Kitchen's Inc Games

2008-11-10 Thread Trenton Matthews

Thanks for the suggestion!
To further expand on that, each series of games that have more than 1 update
to them will have its own "headding" on the page, while all the others will
be under one section.

I should have that page up by the middle of the week.

I would put all of them on one page, the game and all of it's updates, one
after another. The trivia game, the trivia game updates, the golf game,
the golf game additions, and so on.

Its more for my own benefit I guess. For example, all of the golf course
updates you have, I was going to make the golf game have its own
menu/page for my web site, just to make it simpler to find the direct
donload links inside the galaxy. Another is the "trivia game," which has
about 5 or more updates. Again, a "central" page just for those updates.
The web site changes are not for your web site, however are for mine, as
it could be quite cluttered if I had all of your download links on one
page.

I hope this makes more since to ya...

Hi Matthew,
Speaking of people with partial loss of hearing or near deaf I've been
wondering on ways of improving mota ffor those with hearing as well as
visual disabilities. I was wondering if I add a textbox which will allow
you to use a braille display with the game if that would help.
Unfortunately, most of what it would display is health, strength,
location, and other stats. Though, you might be able to press a key and
have the braille display tell you the location of a centaur, skeleton,
harpy, or another monster. In your opinion would this be helpful?

Re: [Audyssey] deff people

2008-11-10 Thread K. Matthew
Well, Thomas, the problem is, You would need a screen reader running in the
background to get the braille to work wouldn't you?

Sounds like a good Idea as far as health and all. But, might be a waist of
time. When I play your other game, I had no problem with needing a braille
to know my health and so forth. And the sound panning helpped a lot.

Correct me if I'm wrong about the Braille part. Just as I recalled, running
your game and a screen reader didn't go hand in hand.
