[Audyssey] Alien allies, --- batteries?

2011-03-23 Thread dark
As I've said I've recently been replaying some old classics in audio games.

This evening I decided to give alien outback another go.

All in all I was doing rather well. I got a bonus stage on the first level and
a good few others without a single ship landed (imho Draconis should make it 3
waves with no landed ships, sinse it's damnably difficult to do 5 on any stage
but the first or second).

Anyway, I get through the two imho hardest waves of ships, level 3 with those
ships that fly down at a constant angle, for some reason these are a real
pain, and then level five with the ships that fly across and laser you.

I'm just on level six wave four with over a hundred health, finding those
teleporting ships actually to be quite easy (I got a no lander bonus on the
first couple of waves), when suddently bang! my keyboard goes dead.

As I'm frantically pressing keys, four separate ships land, get up on their
robotic walker legs tramp across and in the space of about ten seconds have
sent busher bob to that big ranche in the sky!

Needless to say I put in some new batteries, and my wireless keyboard works
fine, but not soon enough for busher bob unfortunately.

All i can say is those aliens have some very! cunning weapons if they can
depower my wireless keyboard batteries at such a helpful time ;D.

Oh well, I'll have to go for the mother alien again at another time.

No real point to this, I just thought it was amusing for my keyboard to fail me
just! as I'm blowing the bejaggers out of the alien fleet and actually doing
pretty well, I had a score of something like six and a half million at
that point too.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Hi Nicol and all,

A couple of corrections. The company that originally produced
Montezuma's Revenge was Parker Brothers for the Atari 2600 and Atari
55200 platforms. In the 1990's they sold the copyrights for it to a
company named Utopia which produced a sequel called Montezuma's
Return. Although, Utopia is out of business they apparently still
retain the copyrights and are quite willing to enforce their
copyrights, and have forbidden me to redistribute, sell, or otherwise
make copies of Montezuma's Revenge or Montezuma's Return. For that
reason I have completely removed all copies from my website, have
disposed of the original source code, and strongly request that nobody
redistributes the game. Breaching my agreement with Utopia's legal
officials could get me into legal hot water even though I am no longer
personally involved with redistributing the game. Those who upload it
etc could equally come under fire so I advise that nobody take that
risk.

Games we'd like to play. Children madness.
In this game, you are a child. You have a gang of eight people. 4 Females
and 4 males. You guys beat up this bully which is trying to fight you.
However, the teacher gives you a ditention warning, and threatens to tell
you to the headmaster. Your gang is really angry. You sneek into a science
lab, knock out a teacher with a spin kick, and you grab some highly
dangerous chemicals. You go into the koridor, noticing a few boxers. So,
you challenge them. Your friends are guarding you, while you beat the
boxer to death. You have too watch out though, the boxer can beat you up
also. Once you win j the fight, you proceed to the teacher. You chuck all
of the chemicals in his face and his face is smashed into pieces.

Hi Ken,

Lol! I love it. That would be extremely funny. That does kind of
remind me of the original Donkey Kong with some unique twists.

On 3/21/11, Ken the Crazy kenwdow...@neo.rr.com wrote:
Imagine a donkey-Kong style of game in which an enraged psychopath gets
up
onto the Sears Tower and starts chucking bowling balls at passers by,
and

you have to stop him. At first, you're outside the building and so you
don't have much warning as the balls come crashing down--all you hear
is the

thuds, the screaming of terrified people and so on, not to mention the
cartoonish boioioioioing if one hits a person. Once you're in the
building,
climbing the stairs it's a bit easier because the balls come
crashing--right
to left, fall, left to right, fall, and so on--and they don't always
fall in
the same places either, because he throws them at different speeds--so
they
might skip right over that first drop only to fall through the second,
or
they might make it to the fifth--and don't think of trying the
elevators,

cuz the psycho disabled them. There would be weapons you can pick up
too--hammers to smash the balls, (two hits for the eight pounders, four
hits
for the 16 pounders,) flame throwers to torch them faster, and also
power
pills that would allow you to jump over more than two balls at a time,
a
thing you couldn't ordinarily do. Be careful, cuz if you are hit with
a
bowling ball, you'll lose health points. Ow! Gosh darn it, that was
my
toe, or wherever it hit. Being hit in the feet means not jumping as
high
or running as fast. Being hit in the arms means not being able to use
your
weapons as well, and being hit in the head means slower reaction time
to

simulate confusion.

Also, the psycho has demolished some of the key stairways up to the
top, so

you'll need to climb through elevator shafts to get to that next level,
which, unfortunately for you, will mean that you have to drop all your
current weapons to do it--unless you can figure out a way to turn those
elevators back on. You also have to be careful because the psycho has
a
switch that allows him to do just that, so you might find yourself
being

flattened by a downrushing elevator. This calls for precise timing--a
little patience goes a long way. You can also trick the psycho into
thinking you're climbing the shaft by going in, wait for him to start
the
elevator, run out, wait for it to stop at the bottom, then climb up and
ride
to the top. Again, very tricky as first, you're probably not on the
bottom
floor and will have to ride it down a ways before it stops, possibly
causing
damage to your health points, secondly, jumping off before he smashes
it
against the roof, and thirdly, keeping stability as he turns it on and
off

rather quickly, trying to throw you from it.
Once you get to the top, the psycho abandons his trunk of balls and
grabs
two swords. He hands you one and you start dueling. Whoever falls off
the

building first obviously is the loser and goes for a swim in the lake.
Ouch! That was a terribly painful belly flop... The game has no
killing,
so anyone can play it. The swords don't cause real wounds, so nobody
would

be offended at it--it would just be a great game for a lot of laughs.

Hey there,
Which legal notice is this? From what I know Shell Shock is not even offered

don't see any reason in redistributing it, unless of course it is like

Re: [Audyssey] Shooting Range 1.0

2011-03-23 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Casey,

Just wanted to give you my personal congratulations for creating your
first game. Its definitely not bad for a first try, and reminds me a
bit of the first practice games I wrote. However, if you don't mind
allow me to give you a couple of suggestions/recommendations for
possible updates.

First, the game could do with a pause key. As you can go for several
rounds there needs to be a way to pause the game instead of exiting
the game to go eat dinner, take a bathroom break, etc. Just would find
this helpful.

Second, I think you have the makings of a decent arcade game in the
works. What I suggest is breaking it up into rounds/levels so that
after you shoot down sso many bottles say something like 25 they get
faster and harder to hit. After the following 25 bottles it gets
faster yet, and so on. I think this would make the game more fun to
play over the long hall. As it stands now while I like the game after
shooting 500 bottles or so it keeps throwing at me at the same pace,
same speed, and my accuracy is no different than when I started. It
needs to get more challenging the longer we play.

Hi Dark,

Yeah. Although, I've got you beat by a mile. I fired 500 shots and
only 3 misses. So the game definitely could use with more difficulty
the longer it plays. This way I could probably have fired 1,000 shots
and not missed hardly any bottles. Its a good game, but a tad bit too
easy.

 things harder.

thus far I find it a litle too easy, for instance here's my score and bare

Hi Damien and all,

For whatever reason Josh, from Draconis Entertainment, has asked
everyone explicitly not to redistribute or share Shellshock. Since
Raul and I are both moderators of this list we have to abide by Josh's
wishes and ask that nobody share that game with other members of the
list. If you do you will have to find another forum/medium to do it.
So until Josh says diferently sharing Shellshock is unfortunately not
legally possible at the moment.

[Audyssey] For my fellow gamers.

2011-03-23 Thread Ron Kolesar
For my fellow blind gamers and flight simulator friends.
Please read the info that is down below.
I would like to know if we might be able to use this new technology with our
hand to ear games and or to the flight simulators to bring thim to life.
We also probably could use it with the wii interface to make it more blind
friendly.
Here's to maybe to bring the virtual reality games into the world of blind
friendly.
Will deeply appreciate any feedback on this since I need to find a new USB
controller that will work with the H to E games and TDV but also work in the
world of windows seven and the world of the 64 bit processor world.
Now the info is down below.
You all now know as much as I do on the unit.
Just thought I'd share.
Ron
Kinect Video game controller acts as sensor in mobility system for
 blind

The Microsoft Kinect (TM) video game controller is everywhere. I saw a kid
playing a video game with one at Sam's club yesterday, and was impressed
 at
how the avatar on the screen followed the kid's movements as he stood in
front of the Kinect console. Obviously this nifty device is inspiring some
new ideas, because a grad student project at Universität Konstanz in
 Germany
has turned out a really cool wearable navigation system for the blind. The
Kinect sits atop a hard-hat (extra dorky looking, but it's good because it
gets the sensor up high and out of the way.) It is connected to a fabric
belt with several vibrators that are probably used to indicate proximity
 to
a wall or solid object, and there is an audible voice indicating
navigational moves. It's sort of complicated to explain but the YouTube
video shows it pretty well and the Slashgear article link I'm including
 does
 an even better job.

Kinect is a trademark of Microsoft.

Re: [Audyssey] For my fellow gamers.

2011-03-23 Thread Jeremy Kaldobsky
Ah yes, I read about this a few weeks ago. It seems like a neat idea but I
personally think it has a ways to go before it would be practical. It is
terribly inefficient at the moment since it takes an enormous amount of 3d data
from the kinect but only translates that into 5 feedback points. It is on the
right track though.

Re: [Audyssey] More on shooting range

2011-03-23 Thread Charles Rivard
I missed 3 out of 750 on my first attempt, and those were early on in the
game. It sounded like a bottle was launched, but two had been launched at
or very near the same time from the same location, and I missed the second
one.

What I would like to see down the road are the option to turn off the music,
and a speed increase as you progress, or maybe different skill levels that
work something like this: Level 1: No speed variance, and you can shoot as
many times as you can before the bottle lands. Level 2: The speed of the
launching of the bottles increases after about 50, 100, 150, and so on, and
the bottles also fall faster with each increase, but you can still shoot as
often as necessary. Level 3: Highest skill level: Same as level 2, but
only 1 shot per bottle is allowed.

I think this would be a cool game with these options.

Hi Jim,

That's true. The better someone's creative writing skills the better
the text adventure or roll playing game is. Those games are heavily
story based, and really require decent writing talent. Out of my years
as a text adventurer I've played text adventures ranging from abismal
to fantastic. All depending on how skilled a creative writer the
developer is. I've even found a few that is both abismal and fantastic
at the same time.

Cheers!

Cheers!

Which legal notice is this? From what I know Shell Shock is not even

don't see any reason in redistributing it, unless of course it is like
another Montezuma incident where the Shell Shock material was copyrighted
by
 a previous entity.
If I am wrong in this assumption please let me know and I will stand
 corrected.
 Thanks.

 Damien.

Thanks, those are good suggestions. I'm making a list.

What I would like to see down the road are the option to turn off the
music, and a speed increase as you progress, or maybe different skill
levels that work something like this: Level 1: No speed variance,
and you can shoot as many times as you can before the bottle lands.
Level 2: The speed of the launching of the bottles increases after
about 50, 100, 150, and so on, and the bottles also fall faster with
each increase, but you can still shoot as often as necessary. Level
3: Highest skill level: Same as level 2, but only 1 shot per bottle
is allowed.

I think this would be a cool game with these options.

Hi Dark,

Yeah. Although, I've got you beat by a mile. I fired 500 shots and
only 3 misses. So the game definitely could use with more difficulty
the longer it plays. This way I could probably have fired 1,000 shots
and not missed hardly any bottles. Its a good game, but a tad bit too
easy.

[Audyssey] Found a huge bug with Shoot.

2011-03-23 Thread Yohandy
It is possible to get your lives to a negative number thus allowing the
player to miss as many times as needed to complete the game. unfortunately,
I'm not too sure how it works. I have a way to caused the bug to occur every
time, but I think there might be another method. I'd investigate further but
all the music and slow speech etc makes it rather hard to test many times
without taking up a lot of time. should I post how I got it to crash on
list? since this is only a little sample game it shouldn't matter much. I
would have emailed the developer directly but I couldn't understand the
email address with the Vista speech synth that well and didn't want to email
the wrong person lol
