Re: [Audyssey] enabling output window in mush z
Hi Richard. what I usually do is ccreate a new window, then open the output window in one of them while keeping alter in the other. Of course, since the output is just notepad you can always just open the window in notepad itself too then open alter over the top, since text will be written to it directly. to be honest tough i tend to find the output winddow more of a pest myself, since being written in notepad the changeable text can sometimes be a pain to read if your reading it and new text comes in, so I just uusually flick supernova back on and read the main alter window with the virtual curser while sapi speaks. This is exactly why it's such an issue charles. It's fairly clear that this is a lip service to access and wasn't ever tested as you describe, sort of like someone claiming their building is wheel chair accessible because it has a ramp that goes straight into the broom cupboard which is two foot wide and would never actually fit! a wheel chair, but hay, it's got a ramp! :D. Re: [Audyssey] enabling output window in mush z
Hi Dark, In my case, I can turn the output window on and off using control alt O. So I went into mush z and poked around even more than before asking my question. Here is what I have under the window menu without the output window enabled: New Window Cascade Tile Horizontally Tile Vertically Arrange Icons Minimize Shift+Ctrl+M Close All Notepad Windows Maximize Restore 1 alter When I enable the output window it has a 2 output listed. But under no menu option that I can find is to enable the output window. If i select new window it just makes another copy of the alter window. Anyone else got any suggestions? Thanks in advance. This is an iOS game. There is a windows version, but I don't think it's being sold anymore, hasn't been updated since 1999 and I don't think it works with screen readers. So unless you own an iPhone, I doubt you can play. If you have an iDevice, you can find it in the app store. -- From: "James Bartlett" Sent: Thursday, April 11, 2013 03:26 PM To: "'Gamers Discussion list'" Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Revisiting dragon pass Hello Dark and Zack This game sounds like a lot of fun. Re: [Audyssey] Haypi Monster for iOS
No idea. You could check out the website at: www.haypi.com Once there click on Haypi Monster under the products thing at the bottom. There is a download button, but I think it's pretty much just mobile. And there's no garuntee you'd be able to use the thing even if there is a non-mobile windows version, I have no idea what it'd be built with or how it'd work with the current windows screen readers. -- From: "john" Sent: Thursday, April 11, 2013 02:52 PM To: "Gamers Discussion list" Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Haypi Monster for iOS You said this runs on windows eight phones. Re: [Audyssey] Haypi Monster for iOS
You said this runs on windows eight phones. Is there any way to run it on a win7 pc? - Original Message - From: "Shadow Dragon" So I recently posted about Monster Kingdom, and that game is still cool. But I just found another one that's even better. Haypi Monster is even more advanced than the pokemon games, and it's free for iOS, android and windows8 mobile phones. If any of you are familiar with the pokemon games, it's along the same lines. You battle monsters, and capture them in seal cards. You can evolve, breed, and even synthesize monsters, which is basically fusing two monsters together to make a new one using a synthesis scroll. Monsters can be equipped with items, and unlike the pokemon games, many of the items give permanent bonuses instead of just being one-time-use automatic healing items or boosters. Monsters level up and earn new abilities, and there's also skill books you can use to teach them other techniques, like the TM's in pokemon. Monsters can have mystery talents, which are passive bonuses that do various things to help you in battle, like healing your monster under certain weather conditions, or boosting their skill effectiveness if the enemy has an elemental advantage. Like in Pokemon, elements can be strong against others, for example, water does severe damage to fire types. There are also status effects and boosting skills that make battling even more strategic. There's a lot to do in terms of activities. The main storyline involves you advancing through different scenes, each with a certain amount of levels. You advance through each level to save the scene, and eventually the world, from evil monsters. There are different modes, like normal mode, team mode, which lets you co-op scenes with other players to fight powerful boss monsters for prizes, and veteran mode, which I'm not sure about. Levels consist of a board-game like interface, where you roll a 6-sided die and advance a number of spaces. You can get treasure, fight battles and other things. You finish the level when you beat the boss monster at the end. You can train your monster in training nests, which give them a substancial experience boost at the cost of money or coins, the game's donation currency, but then require a cooldown before they can be used again. You can compete in tournaments or regular PVP to test your skills against other players at no penalty for losing, in fact I think you even get XP if you lose. There are tons of tasks to do, which are like achievements or trophies with good in-game rewards. There are trainer levels you can earn, which unlock new features of the game. And that's just some of what you can do. I recommend checking out my entry o AppleVis for some accessibility comments, the game is a little tricky to use, but unlike Monster Kingdom there isn't really anywhere that needs VoiceOver turned off. One part of the tutorial and the battle system in particular are somewhat difficult, but I describe how to manage them on AppleVis. Hi Zack. Thanks for the advice. Fortifications are something I started with immediately for that reason, since I remember in my last game horse nomads and other nasty attackers turned up often, even if I kept comparatively peaceful relations with other clans, again this was mostly due to me not wanting to build too much since I wasn't sure what was a good reserve to have, plus I didn't really get trading sorted as easily which is something else I'd like to get fixed this time so that I've got enough goods to use. Re: [Audyssey] Revisiting dragon pass
Hi Dark, Treasures are a special case. you can easily end up paying over 50 or 60 goods for them—otherwise they wouldn't be treasures. ;) As for raiding, it's a good idea to send anyone you can spare, though keep in mind if you send everyone away it's easy for cattle raiders to sneak in while you're gone. Don't neglect building fortifications, particularly the watchtower and stake perimeter, both of which help in pretty substantial ways. Don't forget to consult your ring either, often your war leader has an idea of which clans are weakest, etc. All the best, Zack. Re: [Audyssey] Revisiting dragon pass
Hi Dark, I do believe the manual gives some general advice on this issue. Anything less than 10 goods or cows is seen as a poor gift between clans. 7 goods is a minimum for sacrifice, 14 or more is preferable. The exchange rate is roughly 1 cow = 1 good = 4 food, if I recall. As one of my ring members occasionally says, think of goods as portable cows which don't moo. In other words, they are pretty equivalent, except that it's generally better to use goods in situations where you have a choice between the two and can spare them, as cows are the lifeblood of the clan. [Audyssey] Revisiting dragon pass
So, thanks in part to a three hour car journey with no ability to use my laptop, I've restarted my Kodp game. My previous one went a little wrong, and I lost touch with where that one was anyway. Restarting things have gone better thus far particularly since I now know A, that the hole of the feod should go out to war with invaders in order to kick them out, B, that sacrificing and building temples to the gods is the way to get advantages, and C, a little more about the correct clan management and screens, indeed being more familiar with vo it's far easier to navigate these days (I also like the fact that the nasty music bug is gone, which is nice since the game has really lovely and atmospheric music). The only thing I do tend to wonder about are the various exchange wrates for things, since currently knowing how much to sacrifice, how much is a decent gift, what is the exchange wrate of cows to goods to food and how much treasures cost would really help, it'd actually be nice if asharp had a table of this info in their manual just to give you a bit of the basic idea of the economics of the clan and how much is a generous payment, how much miserly etc, indeed I might suggest this to them as a thing to include, since while I love the true roleplay aspect of the game, being instantly asked to be generous, fair and just when you don't know! what generous is in that society and context is a little complicated. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Corporate VS IndependentDeveloperswasModeratorMessage
Hi Tom. Well present me with a 3D game I can play and I'll judge for myself. As I've said before, 3D pretty much killed game access and my participation in mainstream games dead, indeed I remember trying to play mario 64, a game with bright, high contrast graphics and big sprites that I should! by rights have been fine with but for the 3D space and visual complexity as a really dysmal moment. Yes, there were beatemups like tekken and soulblade, but for someone used to exploring games like metroid and turrican to be limited just! to that genre really wasn't fun. Give me something in audio 3D I can play and I'll gladly try it out though, but as it stands if I personally ever thought of creating a game, or content for a game, if it wasn't some sort of rpg syste, it'd likely be something in 2D and that is why i'd personally love a 2D editer to play with, especially because the 2D games we've seen in audio have been so lacking up to yet as compared to what I'm used to graphically. Re: [Audyssey] franklin Language Master.
Hi Charles, Yeah, really. Here is another prime example of something that is rather inexpensive for the mainstream public, but the moment they add accessibility to it the company charges five to ten times the cost of the original mainstream item. Then,to add insult to injury not only do you pay several times the cost of the original item it doesn't ave the same features or capabilities of the product it was based on. Of course, back in the 90's when I had my Franklin Language Master I didn't really have much of a basis for comparison and it was purchased for me for school so it was no big deal what it cost. Now, that I'm older and wiser I see that I really wasn't getting anything special for the price that unit would have cost. compared to what was available for the general public. Now, of course, the PC has made the Language Master outdated. A lot of those games such as Hangman can be downloaded for free, and even if there isn't a specific word game available it would be easy to whip up in Python or visual Basic over a couple of days. Re: [Audyssey] Corporate VS IndependentDeveloperswasModeratorMessage
Hi Dark, Yes, exactly. I pointed out the Rail Racer track editor for precisely that point. Che can allow people to expand the games to their heart's content, but not in anyway that would prevent him from writing Rail Racer 2.0 and selling the upgrade to his customers which is a good compromise for having level editors and things like that. As you pointed out 2d levels isn't my strong suit, and opening that area up to end users is one way of taking the work of developing lots of levels off my shoulders and shifting it to the community at large. Although, my problem isn't that I can not construct 2d levels its just that I can always see ways to improve the design by moving to a 3d format which is more my forte. I think that is do in large part to my level of exposure to 3d games. As we've talked about before you have been able to see classic NES and Super NES games better so mostly stuck to 2d games with simpler graphics and 2d levels. As for myself while I started out with that stuff too as soon as the games for the PC came out I was playing First-Person Shooters and Third-Person Shooters like Jedi Knight, Tomb Raider, Soldier of Fortune, etc which drastically changed my views on video games in a fundamental way. No longer could I just move up and down left and right but I could turn 360 degrees, move up, down, left, right, forward, backward, and everything in between. You can jump, dive, roll, crawl, do flips left/right, and all kinds of things 2d games just don't offer. Now, as a game developer myself I can see how much more I can do with a 3d level map than just a 2d one. So its not so much that I am unable to design 2d levels its just that I don't have as much personal interest in doing so. Still, this is where a 2d level editor could come into play allowing others to do that for me or themselves. :D Cheers! Hi Nicole, No idea. I haven't seen a Franklin Language Master in a few years, but I recall they are pretty expensive. I have no idea how you would come by one for free unless it was given to you by a school or state agency as part of your course materials or someone decided to purchase one for Christmas or something. Re: [Audyssey] unable to run Rail Racer Demo on windows8
Hi Austin, Yes, you still need to install .NET 1.1 for Rail Racer, because it requires that specific version of the framework to run certain components. The reason is that .NET 2.x, 3.x, and 4.0 are not version 1.0 and 1.1 backwards compatible with some components. Hopefully when Che is done upgrading Rail Racer he will be updating to a newer .NET Framework. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Organizing the Audyssey Database
Hi Shaun, Well, for one thing Open CMS, (Content Management System,) is written in Java, and I don't think is very accessible. Even if it were I am running Audyssey on a server running Red Hat Enterprise, and I don't really want to install and run the Open JRE for Linux on there given that there are better alternatives to Open CMS. So no I wouldn't use that as my first choice. However, if people are concerned about editable content etc I have thought about using a Wiki like Wikimedia which would allow me to create the site, and allow people to edit the pages for reviews, post walkthroughs, and all kinds of things just like on Wiki sites such as Wikipedia, but that is down the road. At the moment I am looking for a simple straight forward solution that works. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated, and I don't want to spend a lot of time writing an SQL database in MySQL and using php or perl scripting the database. That stuff can wait until I have the time and energy to work on it. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Organizing the Audyssey Database
Hi Phil, That's a good question and one I've been doing some thinking about. I think what I will do is create a section called Multiplatform Games and under that include Muds, browser based games, interactive fiction, etc since they can't be assigned to any specific OS and can be played using Mac, Linux, Windows, whatever. As for handheld games like BopIt as well as brailed board and card games I'm still thinking of where to put those, but I'm sure I'll figure that out given enough time. :D Cheers!
