 I would certainly like to. I've got too many irons in the fire, so to

 an accessible version of Galaxy Civilization. You would start out at
 the beginning of space flight, slowly upgrade through first space
 flights, develop deep space travel, and then end up encountering alien
 races and such. Galaxy Civilization was one of the coolest games I
 remember and too bad there isn't an accessible equivalent right now.

Hi James and all,

Well, it would help to provide the list with an error message and a
description of the problem. We don't have ESP, and can not read
peoples' minds. That said, Jim Kitchen's games do run fine on Windows
7, but the most common problems are either do to User Account Control
or missing Visual Basic dependencies.

Re: [Audyssey] A question related to RTS games

2013-08-19 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Mohsin,

Well, a lot would depend on your own personal skills. For example, you
said you know a little programming, but did not specify what language
or languages you have experience with, nor specified what platforms
you wish to target, etc. I don't know of any tutorials specifically
designed for real time strategy based games, but if you know a
programming language well enough the basic design of one should come
naturally to you. Plus on Linux, for example, there are hundreds of
free open source games that could allow you to look at the code and
see how they are built. In my early programming days I'd often
download the source for a game similar in design with what I was
writing and I'd look through its source code to see conceptually how
it was put together by the developer. So once you know what languages
and tools you will be working with if I were you I'd explore the open
source archives for code examples that will help you with conceptual
and design issues.

Cheers!

Hi Cara,

It does. Thanks for that code snip. I had never thought about
structuring my main loop quite like that. I'll have to try that

On 8/19/13, Cara Quinn caraqu...@caraquinn.com wrote:
 Hi Thomas, just a quick one for now as I'm super sleepy.

 Yes, this is essentially correct but way over simplified.

 What I mean is this:

   while (running)
   {

   // Update player movement and position
   UpdatePosition();

 // Get input

 getPlayerInput();

 // process physics

 processPhysics();

   // Update collision detection
   UpdateCollision();

   // Sleep for x MS
   Sleep(time);
   }
 If you notice, the first time through the loop, the entities are being
 rendered immediately. Every time after that they are actually being rendered
 after the collision detection is processed. So the input is taken into
 account and the physics are processed, then the collision detection. After
 that is done then the entities are rendered in their new positions. So you
 can keep the movement methods separate and still have the benefit of
 collision detection preventing you from going into walls and such.

 Hope this makes sense and have a great night! Yawn!… :)

 Smiles,

 Cara :)

Re: [Audyssey] A question related to RTS games

2013-08-19 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Mohsin,

The way BGT is designed you can pretty much write any type of game you
want. That said, there are a few limitations that goes with using BGT.
The first is BGT is currently a Windows only tool so Mac OS and Linux
support is for the moment out of the question. The other is that it
doesn't have good 3d audio support. If you want rich 5.1 and 3d
surround sound support you won't get it with BGT. However, BGT can
pretty much do anything else you can think of. So if you want to use
that for an RTS game go for it.

Cheers!

Hi Mohsin,

When it comes to which language to use it is largely personal choice,
what you feel most comfortable with, and which language is best for
the task at hand.For many reasons I do not recommend VB 6 because it
is really really old and is not officially supported on Windows 7 and
Windows 8. However, C++, Java, and the various .NET languages like C#
.NET and VB .NET are fine for what you want to do. Again, this comes
back to personal choice and what you really plan to do with this
project.

Cheers!

Hi,

Yes and no. There is a free clone of that game called Freeciv, but it
isn't 100% accessible. I have often wondered what it would be like to
take the source for Freeciv and add Sapi support etc and make it fully
accessible.

Cheers!

Hi,
Actually that game came out on the amiga back in the nineties, and also on
the PC. I thinkt he port to the snes was later.

There came out a second one called civilization 2 which was the best one
out of the first three civ versions I played. I think it is up to civ 5 or
higher.

This game is perhaps one of the best strategy games of that time frame, and
if I could see, I would still be playing it, lol.

That free civ sounds interesting. I would love to be able to actually play
civilization again!

HI John, I'm not referring to a specific situation but I will say
that Phil brings up a great point.

My point though is that since I cannot predict what I might want
later on, it is a very good practice to keep your code modular.

YOu want to know exactly what you are calling at any given time
and exactly what it is causing to happen. As your game grows, you
will find that this is becoming more and more important for you.
The idea that you always know what code is doing what, is a very
good idea to keep in mind.

Make sense?…

Thanks,

Cara :)

game. Civilization 3 or 4 I can't remember it's been a long time, but anyway
in the game you could go online and download mods and go online with friends
that had the game and play with them.

I have been learning C++ so I can start programing all the ideas I get in my

What scores do you usually achieve when winning? I've been in the range from
270 to 300 with a high score of 306.

[Audyssey] Great Wrestling Match in WLS

2013-08-19 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi all,

Far out! I was just playing a game of Wrestling League Simulator , and
I have to say this text game was better than real wrestling. The Divas
Championship match I had was pretty awesome.

Tonight's match up was Kelly Kelly vs. Eve torres. I played Kelly
Kelly and the computer controlled Eve Torres. The match was a no
disqualification match for the WWE Divas Championship, and I have to
say the computer put up one heck of a fight.

In the beginning of the match it was pretty evenly matched. Neither
performer could get an advantage as such. It was mainly Eve and Kelly
Kelly exchanging kicks, punches, and occasionally slamming the other
to the mat, but about 10 minutes into the match things got a lot
rougher. Eve drove Kelly's face into the turn buckle, busting her head
open, and I got a little angry and the gloves came off and started to
play dirty. You know thumbs to the eye, pulling hair, and using choke
holds etc. Basically, it went from a wrestling match into a good old
bitch fight. LOL.

Needless to say after about five minutes more of this we took it
outside the ring where it got vicious. We took turns slamming each
other onto the concrete floor, smacking each other's heads into the
ring posts, smacking someone's face into the ring apron, and finally
grabbing a steel chair and bashing it over each others heads. Since
this was a no disqualifications match we could get away with beating
the ever loving tar out of each other without being disqualified which
makes no-holds-barred matches so fun.

Eventually, we both climbed back into the ring for something more like
real wrestling with standard wrestling moves such as slams, knee
lifts, elbow drops, punches, a few slaps, and the occasional attempt
at a pin. However, the end came when Eve Torres went up on top of the
ropes for a springboard moonsault, the infamous Evesault, and Kelly
Kelly moved out of the way for Eve to pancake onto the mat. Ouch!

Let's just say she got up, still stunned, Kelly Kelly delivered the
Kelly Kick and covered Eve for the 1, 2, 3. As of now in Wrestling
League Simulator Kelly Kelly is the new Divas Champion. It was an
unbelievably hard fought match from beginning to end.

Cheers!

Hey, Thomas.

Speaking of the wrestling game.
Have you done any more development on the updated version of the game?

I hope that it will be release soon!
Thanks!
