Re: [Audyssey] Lone Wolf the best game!

2009-08-23 Thread Don Voyles
HI Tom!

I made that comment to get a response mainly from Charlie Tuna. There
are many fine games out here. I have never lost my interest in Lone Wolf
and I just don't have much time to play it or make missions. I only have 4
major games: Lone wolf, Tank Commander and Shades of doomb and I can't think
of the name of the other it has been so long. I need to down load your
sample games for I hear they are very good games. My problem is time.
I would like to learn how to program, but I would need to take classes
to learn properly, I think. I think I would be a good programmer for my mind
never lets up on problems once I start on one. I see that in you as well for
your mind is always working. I just wish I knew what you knew.

Blessings Regards!

 Hi Don,
Oh, really? Actually, I do own the latest version of Lonewolf, and at
one time I played that game every day of the week. Now days I've sort of
 lost interest in it.

Re: [Audyssey] Lone Wolf the best game!

2009-08-23 Thread Don Voyles
Hi Branav!

I am anxious for the new version of Lone Wolf, also. I haven't talked
with David for a long time. But, the last time we talked he said he was
about one third of the way in its programming. It takes a great deal of his
time. He is programming from bottom up for he is not able to add all the
new features everybody wants with the old version. It just was not designed
for all these uptdates. But, knowing David it will be an excellent game when
it is done. I would like to rent his engine to design games.
The reason I said I may need classes to learn programming is I may need
to know more about the computer and my questions could be answered in a
class. Tom gave me a couple web sites to checkout for programming books that
I could download and study. I have heard that jaws can be a problem with
some of the programming languages. My vision is not as good as it was a
couple of years ago and I have to be more reliant on the jaws program than I
was before.

Blessings!

My submarine is out of date. I don't think diesel and battery will do any

I'm willing to pay for this.

[Audyssey] jaws lone wolf problems

2008-11-26 Thread Don Voyles
I need some one's help!

I set up a pentium 2 computer with windows 98 version 1 and put jaws 4,
4.5 and jaws 5.1 on the computer. Then I down loaded lone wolf 3.5 from
David's web site and unzipped it and ran it with jaws 4.0, 4.5 and finally
jaws 5.1 and jaws will not talk with lone wolf. Does any one have any idea
what the problem is? I could upgrade windows 98 version one to version 2,
but jaws works perfectly with dos programs when I exit to dos, so I wanted
to leave windows 98 version one if I could.
Thank You!

I set up another computer with windows 98 version 1 to run dos programs.
Then I loaded up jaws 4.5 because I could not get on the internet at the

web site. When I unzipped lone wolf 3.5 it did not want to run all the

talk while I am running lone wolf. I tried running jaws first then lone
wolf and then the reverse. Or, running lone wolf then load up jaws but jaws
will not talk. Does any one know what could cause jaws not to work with
lone wolf?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Charles!

Yes, I do have newer versions of jaws that I have not put on my windows
98.1 version. I will probably try that now that I can get on the internet
with that machine. I use to use jaws 4.5 with lone wolf on my windows 98
version 2 and it worked jusst fine. I will try that when I put a higher
jaws version on there and license it on the internet. Probably tomorrow.

Thanks!

I am sorry to hear the grief that you have been put through. I am not

Subject: [Audyssey] Side-scroller consessions.

 Hello gamers,
In light of the several emails on and off list to me about my decision
to create a 3D FPS game verses a side-scroller I feel I have no choice
but to do as everyone asks. For those gamers bound and determined to
have a side-scroller do or die what I will do is go back to James
North's original plans and put out some kind of game along the
Montezuma's Revenge lines. I will restore Arizona Smith to the game, and
do whatever it takes to just get the fricking game completed and out of
my life. Since you want the game James North was creating you will get
it just as James had planned it. No more no less.
As for those interested in the 3D FPS version of Mysteries Of the Aztecs
I am still interested in creating this game, but obviously I will put it
in the things to do pile down the road.
Finally, I have one last thing to say to this community before I sign
off. I am really disappointed in those of you who have made such a fuss
and an issue over this. I try very hard to produce good and high quality
games. I even want to go above and beyond the norm by trying things that
have never been done before by an accessible game developer. All I get
in return is a lot of grief and misery for my effort. From this time
forward I will complete your games you got from James North as
advertised, but it comes at a price.
Before today I use to take polls, gather suggestions from end users, and
use to gather your ideas to put into my games. I was always very open
about my thoughts, plans, ideas, etc. However, that has been shattered.
From now on when I create games I plan to be more or less quiet about
my plans, new game ideas, and end user suggestions will be selectively
used at my descression. I see now running polls like the one about
weather to make a FPS or a side-scroller was a horrible mistake as it is
being used to force me to do something I really do not want to do. If it
was the poll alone i wouldn't mind so much, but since the majority of
those were paid customers I am between the rock and the hard place.
Neither option is exactly a great place to be from where I sit, but your
demands to force me into this decision only makes it harder to enjoy
making accessible games. I can tell you right now I will create the
side-scroller, but the next few months are going to be purgatory,
slavery, whatever you want to call it.
Being the victem of this communities backlash I can tell you why James
North became dispondant and left this community in the manner he did.
All we developers hear is give me, give me, give me, I want, I want, I
want, regardless of how the developer feels or thinks about the matter.
Apparently developers aren't allowed to have lives or desires of their
own and must soully entertain the blind gamers out there for their every
whim. If I ever create a game for this community after these two games
are completed you will be pretty darn lucky. i am sick of the stress and
 grief you put me through.

Re: [Audyssey] Lone Wolf missions

2007-12-25 Thread Don Voyles
Hi Raul!

Yes, I have all the missions. David is in the process of adding the
other missions to the gam list. The reason why it has taken so long is the
gam engine is designed to allow only 99 user made missions. The others I
have I had numbered 99a, 99b , 99c and so on but we are not going to use
that idea. We are going to start the next batch of missions from 1 through
99. I will send yu the other missions in the next day or 2. But, they will
be numbered 1 and upward so you will have to make another lone wolf folder
and place the new user made missions in that folder. I have 3 lone wolf
folders. I just made copies of the original.
I discovered that you have to start with number 1 in the folder for if you
don't the game will lock up. You cannot start with 2 or upward. I will
send you a list of all the mission messages also. Oh, the messages will have
the writer and difficulty of the mission, also.

   Blessings!

Hello everyone. All the kids are off to sleep and we are now waiting for

Lone Wolf missions. I only have up to missions 96 however. I believe
that either Don V or someone else on this list has the others. The
downloads for missions above 96 are not on the GMA games site so if
anyone has the rest from 97 on up through the lettered missions, I would
appreciate a link to get them from, or, since they are small, an e-mail
attached zip file should do the trick.

 Many thanks.

Hi Daniel!

I play 3 games that I think are lots of fun and challenging. They are
lone wolf, shades of doom and startrek. You can get these games from
gmagames.com. These games are written by David Greenwood. Thomas Ward at
usegames also has good games but I don't have his, yet.
PS. Lone wolf has the ability of the player to write missions and have them
added to the web site for others to play.

Hi Sky!

Have you figured out mission 16, yet? If, not I can give you a spoiler
on that mission. It is a fun mission and not to difficult. I have another
mission that will need to be tested, soon. It is based on the book Run
Silent Run Deep. I don't know if you would be interessted in testing it,
but I will have it out soon. There is a couple of things in the lay out that
I don't like and I need to change.

[Audyssey] vista question

2007-04-08 Thread Don Voyles
Hi Tom!

Do you have an A drive or 3.5 disk drive in your computer? If, you do did
you know that you should be able to make a dos boot up disk which you could
boot up your computer in dos mode without any vista systems in memory, etc.
A friend of mine has vista and the ability to make a dos disk but he does
not have a 3.5 drive to make one. So, I am assuming that a person could make a
dos boot up disk if they had a 3.5 disk drive installed in their vista computer.
I discovered that with x p home I could make a dos boot up disk then boot
up the computer off the A drive to run some of my dos programs instead of
trying to run off windows dos.
I have been told so many times that a person could not run dos with a
computer with x p home on the computer. But, when a person boots up in dos with
a disk made from x p home or any fairly recent dos boot up disk like from
windows 98 boot up dos disk there is no problem.

 Hi Yohandy,
The new sneak preview is a new one just finished Saturday the 17th, named
Sarah2.mp3 and is 17 MB in size.
I show you what you can do with the broom and pick up the map with it, but
run into the cat then apparate to the broom cupboard.
I mistakenly call it a closet because that is what it is called in the US
 edition.
 Then I demonstrate the map.

It is on the home page,

If you have downloaded the game from the Draconis site please run the
  patch
since they have not updated their download version yet.
  It is named Sarah-Patch1.exe
The patch is only 1 MB.
Thanks for all the orders, some of them are delayed as the people

Great! David needs some encouragement and a meteorite landing on his
Greenwood Mansion might be just the ticket for a new space game that is 3d.
if, one could fly under or over a enemy ship he could shoot from that

or 360 degrees. Or, maybe he could make a flight simulator game of fighter
aircraft that can launch torpedos or shoot guns in all directions.

  Hi folks
I'm confused; really confused. I want to try out Sarah; it sounds
as
  if
it's a nice game but I want to make certain of a few things. My
sister-in-law told me that a friend of her had a traumatic case with
  her
little girl watching Harry potter movies. She watched them over and
  over
again. My sister-in-law told me that the names of Harry's friends
are
  really
the names of demons. This girl was terrorized by demons when she
  watched
  the
movies. She couldn't sleep at night. When psychologists tried to
find
  out
what was keeping her awake they discovered that it's the movies. Now
I
  want
to know: how serious does Sarah go into the Harry potter story? Did
  Phil
  put
  the real sounds of demons into his game? I'm very afraid of demons;
I
  heard
many people say that the sounds of demons are very very scary.
I would just like to know if the game contains any real demon
sounds;
specifically demon sounds. What I mean with this is: did phil made
  contact
with demons and then they made sounds over his microphone and then
he
recorded it? In other words, did phil get in contact with demons so
  that
  the
demons themselves do the sound effects for sarah? Because my
  sister-in-law
explicitly warned me against any Harry potter, she said I would get
in
  touch
with demons if I play or listen to any Harry potter.
But I need to make the decision myself. She says that the movies by
  which
the child was terrorized at night was more specifically harry2. The
  second
part of Harry's story but she warned me against all harry potter.

 Hi Don,
GMA's Engine is pretty nice for amature developers, but it does have a
pretty big price tag attached to it.
I'd only go for the engine if you were seriously considering commercial
development. Otherwise it is much cheaper to learn a language such as
C#.NET, download Visual C# Express for free, DirectX SDK, and start
 writing games.

Hi. If you don't want to see or read about me venting then skip this
 now.

 .
 .
 .
 .
 .

 Still with me? Good.

 .
 .
 .
 .

This is not a flame by any means, nor is it an attack on any one person.
So, keep this in mind when reading my venting.

 .
 .
 .
 .
 .
 .

Ok, if you are still here, then read on.

I really get annoyed when people want the silver platter handed to them
not even a week after a game comes out. This great game has not even
been out for a week and already there are several messages from people
asking how to get trophies, how to unlock stuff, how to do this, that,
or the other. As Liam stated in an earlier message, part of the replay
value is in discovering the creative ways to unlock bonus games, get
trophies, more movies, etc. If the people who have done this were to
give out all the information then what replay value would this game
have? I feel this same way about using cheat codes to win the game.
Sure, if you use them, you can do some fun things, but then the game for
 me gets boring.

Ok, I'm off my soap box and I'm done venting.

 .
 .
 .
 .
 .

Now, back to gaming. I need to try and beat some of those awesome scores
 on the JD scoreboard.

I have another 7 to 10 here pretty soon. I have read the manual on

 Hi,

 *quote*
I've been reading the audio game maker documentation and am extremely
 impressed
 *quote end*

 Thanks ;)

 *quote*
First, is there a way to create a useable inventory of items which a
  player
could switch betwene? these could be different weapons and armour to
  equip,
different spells with different hit radius and amo requirements aka
magic
points, keys, or healing potions or other replenishment items. If I
  haven't
miss understood some of the item properties, it also appears you could
use
an inventory function in a vehicle based game to equip different parts
to
your vehicle to increase it's speed handling or offencive capabilities.
 *quote end*

Yes, items mostly contain properties related to weaponry/healing. So you
can
use it to create a magic sword, healing potions, key to open a certain
door.
But, items can also change certain properties of the avatar (whether this
is
the speed of a walking character or a massive tank). Please see:

 http://www.audiogamemaker.com/manual/item/item_properties.html (item
 properties)
 http://www.audiogamemaker.com/manual/item/item_reactions.html (item
 reactions)

 *quote*
also, is it possible to set enemy resistance to particular items? such
as
certain creatures needing to be attacked by a specific item in order to
be
  defeated?

second, is there a way of creating player items that would allow attacks
  at
a specific rate, ega chargeable sword swing which would do more damage?
 *quote end*

Mmm let me think about that. I guess that this functionality
(resistance
against some but not all items) is not in Audio Game Maker. But I guess
that
with a work around, you might be able to create more or less the same
 functionality.

An option is to maybe use a timer to always gradually increases the
opponents health to a certain maximum. Then give the player several
weapons
that do little damage, and give him one weapon that does do a lot of
damage,
meaning that this weapon must be used for this particular monster. And
after
the player succeeds, remove the weapon to avoid that the player uses this
 against other enemies.
Another option might be, that when a player makes an attack with a certain
weapon, you might be able to connect it to a trigger, which in turn adds
more damage to the opponent. This just from the top of my head... I'm not
saying it is possible, I'm saying it might be possible with a work around.

Many things will be possible with Audio Game Maker, but you need to be
able
to think of creative solutions ;)

 *quote*
I think these are the only two things i can see that would be needed to
create an action/rpg game akin to Zelda or secret of Mana, (I'm truly
impressed by the ally status option), sinse everything else that I
can
think of is most deffinately there!
 *quote end*

I can see where this particular functionality might be important. I'll
discuss it with the programmer and maybe there's a way we can still
implement this directly. Otherwise we'll put it on the wish list. Thanks
for
 the suggestion...

 *quote*
i was also wondering if there was any function in the game to create
  menues
at specifictimes and locations. These could be used for all sorts of
  things,
from choosing the world (useful in a vehicle based game for selecting
  paths
or race courses), to choosing what you say to another charactor in an
  action
or rpg game, with associated sound files (and maybe recieving different
items as well), attached to each choice, it might also be possible to
use
  a
menue system to create turn based combat, by having menue choices
attached
to reduction in various charactors or opponent's stats, use of items etc
(though obviously this would be more complicated to impliment.
 *quote end*

Yes, you can (but again, this is simply just one way). There is not a Menu
Building Block so you need to build something yourself. Each menu could
perhaps be a world consisting of a ?x1 grid. Each cell would contain a
sound
source that can only be heard when the avatar collides with the sound
source
by moving from cell to cell. Then you can attach a portal to it to create
some sort of interaction, so that when the player hits a button on a
certain
cell, he/she is transported to another world using the portal. In this
case,
the new world could also be a menu world.
But maybe it's easier to use multiple Message blocks in one world... I
guess
there are multiple ways to getting the same result :)

 *quote*
Well, i can't wait to see what happens when the audio game maker is
  released,
 *quote end*

 Me too ;)

 *quote*

Hi,
It would all depend on if the language they are using can serialize
objects. Judging on the fact they are using xml data files for most of
the engine it does look as if it can serialize objects via soap. Not
sure if it can do binary serialization though.

 Hi,
I forgot to ask in the last e-mail.
I haven't found an answer to this in any of the manual sections that I
read through, so:
Will it be possible to save your current position in the finished games by
default, will you have to code this feature into every game yourself, or is
it just gonna be completely impossible?
And second, will it be possible to create a bunch of major settings(such
as sound and music volu¨me) that could be stored and used for the entire
game until changed again? Sort of a normal options menu.
I can imagine cheat codes possible but am not really sure on how to
implement them right now... :-)
That's about all for now. :-)
 Thanks in advance,

Subject: [Audyssey] Game programming education project.

 Hi all,
In the interest of everyone who wants to begin learning how to program
accessible games I will be launching the USA Games game programming
education project. What I plan to do is write an accessible version of
Asteroids complete with saving and restoring games, standard and arcade
style play, sound, music, etc... Once written I will be able to post the
full source code and release versions for download.
The source version will eventually include documentation explaining the
audio class and it's use with Microsoft DirectSound. Another tutorial
might cover working with Visual Studio Express 2005, and another might
discuss saving and restoring games, etc. I don't plan for all of this
suddenly to appear, of course, but if I put some time to it each week
those of you out there will not only have a free game, but one with a
full source written in C#.NET which will give you something to look at
and to practice your programming skills with.
The main reason I have decided to do this is I would like the community
at large to have not only accessible games, but high quality accessible
games. Most new programmers don't know how to do that. For instance,
most programming books won't tell you how to save and restore a game,
and you have to compile the information from two or more sources, and
understand serializing an object. With a sample right in front of you it
becomes pretty clear how it is done without all the explanations how it
works just that it does work. Which is what we all want.
Not only that there is always some trig equations needed to calculate
the distance between objects, directions, and updating there location.
Well, naturally I will be including them, and I will keep things at the
Algebra/Trig level and won't put to much on you newbies by making
everything 3D with vectors, and all that.
Anyway, if you guys think this will help the community add new
programmers to the rank, and help you guys learn I will be happy to
donate time in the future to this end ever.
 Smile.

In addition, those who said that there is no demo are correct, the

  NO.
The site was very clear about what the game was about and the type of

 Hi Guys,
I don't know if anyone else had played this game, but I had played a space
 sim called descent: freespace.
You played a spacefighter pilot assigned with a carrier, and you had to
defend against an incoming alien race. Each mission gave a briefing, and
you
then choose ship to take, which ranged from bombers, fighters, and
others,
and you also choose weapon loadout for each mission had diffrent
parameters
for success. As the player, you had a list of menu options which consisted
of running one or more squadrons under your command.
the options consisted of things like: attack who you are targeted on,
attack
at will, attack weakest ship, attack ship attacvking you, retreat, and
some
 others.
The point I was getting to was the resupply ship. In the middle of a
mission, you could request for resupply. This was always an interesting
time. You generally wanted to call it between waves of enemies, during a
lull, and sometimes you just needed to resupply to get to the next part of
the same mission. It would take a certain amount of time to get to you,
depending on how far away from base or the carrier you were, and when it
showed up, the player had to come to a full stop and let the resupply
attach and transfer fuel and weapons and even fix some minor damage.
Sometimes this ship would get destroyed in combat if you got attacked
unexpectedly and a new resupply ship usually wasn't available after that
 event.
I guess the point I am trying to say is that a resupply ship in the middle
of a mission wouldn't be to hard to imagine, especially in an example like
 this:
You are defending an important corridor of space, when you detect the
oncoming advance of an enemy fleet. You call for back up, and offensive
ships are coming, but all you got is a starbase and a supply ship to keep
 you supplied until cavalry comes.
To resupply, you might have to come to a full stop and tractor the
resupply
ship, and start transporting goods over. One might have to drop shields as
 well to do this.
Once resupplied, the battle could continue, that is, if the player
managed
to create a lull and resupply before the next wave of the enemy.
 How does this sound?

 Hi Don,
Sorry about that. I was describing a game I had played before I lost my

a
space sim using squad control menus, and the main point was that the ship
could get resupplyed during a mission.
Sorry again. The game itself is at least eight years old, but it was a

All I can say the only good thing about this is that STFC will need to
be totally written from scratch. That can be good, as many have said, as
the game will likely come out better than before.

 Hi Don,
Well, yeah it is possible to decompile the exe file back to readable
code, but readable is all it will be. It won't likely come out clean and
understandable, and I probably wouldn't be compelled to work with the
code even after it was recovered in such a fassion. Allot of time would
be spent on adding comments, formatting, etc trying to get the code back
to the original code that it would defeat just rewriting it.

 Hi,
Personally i like this idea, but i'd like to add something to it. In a
ww2 submarine game, i think it was called Wolf Pack, you commanded one
submarine, on an attack mission against an enemy convoy. Now you could do
a
solo attack or you could trail the convoy and bring in i think it was 3 or
5
additional ships. Then you would order all of them to go in and attack and
you would as well, my thinking is you could still have the advantage of
fleet command even in realtime. And when one of your subs was destroyed,
mine usually went first, you would shift to the second sub, then the
third,
and so forth until you were either successful or dead.
 Just a thought.
 Dave.

If we stick with the same old turn based game it will be basicly the
  same only better than before.
If we go to real time the game could be more like Lonewolf consisting of
missions you would have to cary out against the Romulans, Breen,
  Klingons, Borg, Breen, etc...
Since it is in real time you would have to play one ship and stick with
it. However, I can imagine how fun it would to be say the Defiant and
cloak and and attack various targets deep behind enemy lines, or you
could be the Enterprise patroling the Romulan Neutral zone when you are
  jumped by the Romulans.
  What do you all think?

 Hi Allan,
There are two types of adventures for an area. There are Guild Member
and free adventures. The Guild member adventures are different
adventures that can only played by Guild Members. The free adventures
 can be played by everyone.
As to your second question not all of the adventures can be discovered
by simply playing the game in an area. Once you have completed all the
miner adventures in an area, for example helping the preast a the
church, you can then look at what other adventures are available for
that area. These tend to be major adventures which are much more
 dificult to complete.
Here is an example of how you might play Hawklor.
You start out with the miner adventures of helping the priest at the
church rescue his friends. You then get hired to guard the salesman. You
then win the flask in the Stoneback In or whatever it is called.
After that let's assume you have completed all the miner adventures for
that area. Now, you are ready to take on the major adventure for that
area. During your miner adventures you probably heard about the Goblin
army forming at the Caves at Westwold. By going to other adventures for
this area while in Hawkllor you can then take on the Goblin's of
Westwold, kill Blalak, and win the first major adventure for the area.
Of course, you don't have to do this stuff in any real order. For
example, at first I traveled around and did several miner adventures in
all the towns got my skills up, and then started in to the major
adventures.
 Hth.

 Hi Damien,
I'm probably getting a tad bit off topic from game development, but I
feel this is an important point. Are you aware of the different levels
 of programming languages?
In computer science we place all programming languages in one of three
catagories: low level, intermediate level, and high level. Which ranks
them not only by complexity but design and function.
An example of a low level programming language is assembly. It is
perhaps one of the most complex languages to know and learn, but is at
the very core of operating systems, and is extremely powerful in it's
relm of low level operations such as system drivers, kernels, etc...
However, C and it's sister language C++ also can be used to write low
level code and do low level operations. C is at the very core of Linux
which is what the Linux kernel is written in.
Then, we have the intermediate level languages. I would say the majority
of C++ applications fall in the relm of intermediate level. It's not as
complex as assembly but light years more powerful and complicated than VB.
Finally, you come to the high level languages. Languages like VB,
C#.NET, Java, fall in the high level catagory. They are much easier to
learn then lower level languages, and high level operations such as a
notepad program, scripting a web page, calculating a few numbers, an
audio game, etc... The languages can't do low level stuff, but are easy
to learn and very effective at what they do in their high level
operations.
My point in saying all this is when you call C++ a proper programming
language, it is the understatement of the century. C++ happens to be
able to be used in high level operations suchas C++.NET all the way down
to low level operations like kernels, drivers, and run operating
systems. Everyday devices such as cell phones, MP3 walkmans, cash
registers, etc are written with C++ driving the operating systems for
those devices. Simbian OS which comes on most cell phones was written in
 C++.
So let's give C++ the title it deserves as the language of languages. It
is perhaps the most flexable and powerful commonly used programming
 language known to man.

only real difference between comaudio and directx is that comaudio can
play
encrypted and compressed sound archive files. that's really the only
reason
i use it, because i wouldn't know where to start with making a sound
encryption algorithm and having to decrypt it for dx to play.
yes, autoit is very small. vb6 is somewhat more complicated and that's
what
i started off with - big mistake, as there was no internal
documentation, i
didn't know a thing about it, and all i got were exercises to copy, not
knowing how they worked or what they meant, or even what the point was
of

c++ is a lot more complicated, some people call it a proper language,
because of the fact that you have to tell it exactly what you want it to
do,
where as vb and autoit use in-built functions to do all that for you. i
still don't understand vb6 now, which is why i jumped straight over to
c++.
another c-like language you may or may not want to start off with is
gentee.
don't know much about that, reading docs on it at the moment, but i'm
using
that as a transitional language to help me understand c more.

 Hi all,
I guess this question would probably be better for Jim, but has anyone
else noticed that the computer player makes huge purchasing mistakes and
doesn't know how to play Monopoly properly?
For example the computer player will land on an expensive green property
but have $11 in cash. It will decide to purchase the property anyway and
morgadge everything to get it. Yeah, that is legal for the game, but is
usually a risky move that will end the player in losing the game soon. I
suppose it would be ok for the computer to try it for absolutely
necessary properties, but I notice it does it over and over again until
it runs out of money and commits financial suicide.
Another mistake I saw was when the computer player decided to unmorgadge
something it started automaticly with the most expensive properties.
Duh, if you are trying to get some houses up unmorgadge the less
expensive properties, and get some houses on them, and once they bring
in some cash then unmorgadge the moreexpensive properties and build on
 them.
In short I hate to be critical, but the computer player for Monopoly 6
doesn't have a head for business at all. I can see several moves ahead
and see when the computer player is making massive blunders and this or
that is going to end up in the computer losing.
When the computer player makes such blunders I am master enough of
computer and board based monopoly to capatilise on the computer's
blunders and make huge proffets etc usually killing the computer even
 faster yet.

Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly.

2006-08-20 Thread Don Voyles
Hi Tom!

For a while I was playing monopoly every night for about an hour. I
would usually have it beat in an hour. I have probably played it 75 to 100
times. It has beat me maybe 3 or 4 times. A couple times it was a draw
because we each had one of each properties. I don't try to buy from the
computer any more because it is to easy to beat the computer that way. If, I
can't get a monopoly on a property and there is no way to do so without
buying from the computer I just call it a draw. The game takes hours to win
by draining him of his funds that way.
But, I do enjoy plaing monopoly and I only have the computer to play
with. My friends don't like monopoly much. Actually, I do have one friend
that likes monopoly but I only see him about every six months.

Later!

Ah well, if I ever get the time between games maybe I will crank out my
own monopoly with a more challenging foe.

You have to look at the properties of your drive. if its formatted in
ntfs. Then those old versions of dos are dead. They do have a version
that runs in that mode, but the speech programs won't.
If the drive is all ntfs. You will have to redo the box with a 32bit
partition for dos and then put xp back on the box. So it can set up
the dual boot options. Once you ntfs a drive its not ease to get it
back to 32 bit unless you wipe the whole drive and start over.

before I lose my mind and get married on 5th August. After that I'll
continue to lose my mind by going on a honeymoon to Vegas where we will
visit many things including the Star Trek Experience.

What this means is that I will not really be able to participate on the
list much in the next couple of weeks. If you need to send me private
email feel free to do so and I'll answer when I can.

Many thanks and when next I write I'll be an institutionalized man.

 Hi Don,
Here is the link for the lone wolf books which I will explain a little of
 here.

 www.projectaon.org

The Lone Wolf books were ckind of like the old choose your own adventure
books back in the day. Only these are fantasy oriented, and involve a
combat system so that you actually kind of recreate playing a RPG, or role
 playing game.
The website explains it alot better than I can.
In addition, you can download the twenty two books and play them off
line,
or play them on line thru the site.
My problem is that the combat system involves a chart that where you
compare
a random generated number which then gives the result of a single round of
combat. The damage is done simultaneously and is unique.
Brandon had told me about some tolls that can be downloaded that
calculates
the battle as well as keep track of equipment and other things. but so far
I
am not doing too well with it.

Anyway, check it out for yourself and see if you might like it.You have
any
other questions, I can try my best to answer them...

 take it easy. grin
The truth will set you free...

 Hello everyone,
In this email I'm first asking for advice, then I'd like you guy's
feedback
 on a suggestion.
First, I'd like to tell you guys my background with text adventures.
When I was at school, the teacher had a disk with text adventure games
like
Zork, Gymad, Under the Ice, etc. The screen reader that was used was
Window
Bridge, which could also be used as a dos screen reader. You would go to
Windows Explorer, press enter on the .exe file of the game, and Window
Bridge would start reading it to you.
Now, however, new windows systems don't even have any form of DOS, and
this
makes me worried, because, for me, text based games are a very important
part of the history and culture of games for the blind. My worry is that
with the non-existance of dos, these games will disappear, be hard to
find,
etc. I want to do two things, but I please need answers:
 1. For my own enjoyment, I want to somehow be able to play the dos-based
text adventure games. These games are of course stand-alone games, not
games
that used windows interpreters, but games that will iether run under old
Windows versions through the ms-dos prompt, or through raw ms dos.
What me and a sighted guy thought of, is if I make a partition on my hard
drive, install plain dos, and use a screen reader like Jaws for Dos or Hal
Lite, which are free. I want to know though, is their anywhere I can get
DOS
from? Also, since I've mainly used the windows environment, is their some
kind of DOS tutorial available, sort of a beginners for DOS guide? I'm
familiar with some dos commands, like how to move through directories and
run programs, but don't know it too well. You might be wondering why I'm
not
installing an older version of Windows and running the games under the dos
box? We were thinking about it, but we don't have a copy of Windows 95 or
98, and I don't think their is anyone who could sell us a copy.
The next thing I want to ask is can you guys send me lists of sites which
have text-based games on them for download. The idea is, with large hard
drives, I will download, keep, and play as many of these hard-to-find
games
as I can, I will then, when I can have my own site one day, upload them to
the site as a sort of huge library.
My suggestion is about a text-based games club (like a book club!) What
I'm
suggesting is, it's fun, I remember from school, to solve a game with
other
people. What I suggest is a sort of club that would work like this:
Once, say every two months, a person will suggest a game, which is freely
downloadable. That person must tell all of us who want to take part, the
link to the game. Everyone who wants to can play the game, and, without
using the solution, we who struggle with problems in the game try and put
our heads together and try and finish the game. We can do it by email on
this list, or in a chat room while playing the game, but I think email
will
be best, since people first of all don't play the game at the same time,
and
time zones are also a problem.
Talking about dos games, are the PCS games that were made for dos still
available? If I can get a dos system set up, I'd really love to try them.
You may wonder where this enthusiasm has come from, it came from me
re-reading the first three issues of audyssey! I read about games like
Fallthru, which I've never played, but would love to try! I've played
Zork,
 it's cool!

Windows XP has a DOS option. o to start, run, and type in cmd.exe
rather than the usual command.com. That'll bring up a DOS window
similar to what you'd find with Windows 95 and the such, with all the
 oddly programmed commands contained therein.

 Hi Chris,
I've just tried command, it works, I can play old games! Thanks everyone!
What you do is go to Run, and in the box you type command.com
This brings up the prompt. This is cool, because I remember on a computer
I
saw with JFW and an older version of Windows, you could go to the MS-dos
prompt option in accessories, but their is no such thing under Windows XP.
It feels so brilliant that I can play some of these games again! I do wish
their was a way of somehow restarting in dos and of somehow getting a
proper
dos screen reader loaded. Chris, you can read the dos windows by routing
the
Jaws Cursor to the PC cursor, but I tried a game today where it didn't
work
well, because the text seemed to be in bars, what I mean is, JFW read the
 lines like this:
 || Welcome to Gymad||
 ||Written by ||
I can't play games like this, I really wish I knew how to turn this option
 off.

I have been a member of recordings for the blind for lots of years and I
have never had to pay anything for their services. They use to give out
their catalogues for free but that did change several years ago. I think
they have a web site that you can go to to see what they have or just call
the toll free number for their help. You do have to set up an account with
them showing that you are blind. I am going to call them tomorrow to see if
things have changed.

 Hi Mark,
Thanks very much for this. For me in SA, the one thing I was worried about
was that I'd spend this money on the set and find it couldn't help, or
that
I couldn't really use it. It's great to hear that I have the choice of
sending it back. Now all I need is something to help me learn chess. Jim
suggests Recordings for the Blind, but that won't really help me since it
is
quite expensive (once I wanted to join, I heard that it was $76 a year or
something). The other problem I have with Recordings for the Blind is
that,
even though I know they have a wide variety of books in many subjects,
I've
never really been able to find a list where I could sort of browse
 categories of books they have.
