Its not free ware or abandon ware. It was a college project that got its 
rewards in 2003 and the grads left it at that.
Nothing has ben updated on game or even any info on requirements or game

that it states not free ware and does have a link to buy it. However it 
just takes you back to the same site as download.

tells why it works on some and why not other computers.
This game is a perfect example of being left behind with useless software. 
With todays higher grade of computer. The files it tries to install is 
direct x 5 and 3D support that is very general. Well that 3D support is in 
640 by 800 and not many machines run that mode today. So there is one 
glitch that can stop a system. With all the useless software in it just 
for play. I am surprised that it even worked on my system and did blue 
screen me to death!

The perfect reason for keeping the code up to date on any game!

The only helicopter game I know of is the one I made, heli.  The concept

Thanks, I did not know that the rocket engines had parachutes.  I knew 
that the American space capsules from the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo 
missions had parachutes and landed in the ocean.  They were sort of tear 
drop shaped.  Now the shuttle is shaped like an airplane and lands on a 
runway like a glider airplane.

Fuel tank is before the boosters, I think and yes, they recover the rockets 
at least, they have parachutes that aid in landing the rocket on the ocean. 
You can listen to a rocket descent  on youtube, try for atlantice rockets, 
they seem to have the most interesting sounds when they fall and land.

Yes, on the launches they always report altitude, time and down range.  So 
at some time they do not go directly vertical.  I am not sure if the solid 
rocket boosters are ejected at the same time as the external fuel tank or 
before.  Wonder if they recover any of that stuff out of the ocean or if 
it is all at the bottom of the ocean.  Same for the different stages of 
the Saturn rockets which launched all of the Apollo missions.  Not sure if 
it were Saturn rockets for the Gemini and Mercury missions though.

Lol, that was a nice description.  well, maybe bpc programmes will convert 
the tdv to a space sym or write another game that involves a space sym 
because they love fighting games, it seems.  But I have to say, I learned a 
lot about flying from just taking off, landing and doing the racing and 
death-match modes.

Well if I had the code for a flight sim I could try to convert it to a 
space sim.  Don't have the code for a flight sim though.  And to write one 
I would need degrees in mathematics, physics, aeronautics, geography and 
probably a couple more that I am not thinking of right now.  And heck I 
never even graduated high school.  Back then I was not yet legally blind, 
but I was a very very slow reader and reading always gave me bad 
headaches.  Now I could take Star Wars or Star Trek or Jetsons sounds and 
replace the sounds in my Puppy 1 game and make that more of a space game. 
But Puppy 1 is more of an arcade shooter game than a flight sim.  And it 
does not have actual mathematics, physics, aeronautics, and geography such 
as longitude, latitude, altitude and attitude etc.  Like the one flight 
sim that I played with when I had a tiny bit of sight.  It was the 
Microsoft flight sim version 5 for dos.  I was just playing around putting 
in longitude and latitude numbers and the next thing I
knew I was flying around the statue of Liberty.  So then I tried to land 
on Ellis Island, which didn't work.  But I did fly under the Brooklyn 
bridge.  Was never able to land on it though.  And then I flew between the 
Twin Towers.  Umm occasionally crashing into them.  I wonder how many 
programmers with how many degrees it takes to write a flight sim like the 
Microsoft flight sim programs.

No, they eject the solid rocket boosters and fuel tank separately. The
fule tank is required to give the shuttle enough fuel to reach orbet.
As far as the ejected rocket boosters and fuel tanks I believe they
have a recovery ship try and recover them.

As far as the early space missions they used the Redstone rocket to
lift the Mercury and I believe the Geminiships into orbit. However,
the Apaulo spaceships were much much heavier and they had to build the
Satern rockets to lift them into space. As least as I recall. I'd have
to look it up. Its been a long time since I read books on the early
space missions.

Well, you could try Jim Kitchens Mach1 TTS. That's about as close as
you will get to a car sim right now. USA Raceway, the racing game I'm
working on, is far from complete at this point. You could also try
Topspeed 3 by Playing in the Dark. That is if you are into racing
games. Oh, and while I'm thinking of it there is a game on
Audiogames.net called Drive. That might be something you are looking
for.

Yeah even though landing the shuttle is similar to landing a glider plane 
the launch is nothing like taking off in a plane.  You know in an airplane 
you crank up the engines, release the brakes and roll down the runway 
building up speed until you get to the correct speed to pull up and lift 
off of the ground.  You then ascend into the sky at what about a 30 degree 
angle.  Now the shuttle on the launch pad is standing vertically on it's 
tail attached to the huge external fuel tank.  So you are sitting on your 
back looking up into the sky.  5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and all five main engines 
fire up burning hydrogen and liquid oxygen.  At the same time the two 
solid rocket boosters ignite.  All hell brakes loose and you ascend almost 
vertically straight up into the sky at thousands of miles an hour.  But 
yeah as a shuttle sim it could be done as easily as an airplane sim.


BTW I do not think that I would so much enjoy weightlessness with no 
visual reference points, no gravity for reference etc.

I wrote Mach 1 tts specifically for my Logitech MOMO Racing steering wheel 
joystick.  It should work ok with other game controllers as well.  However 
some of the tracks may be very difficult if not impossible to drive via 
the keyboard.
In version 2 I have added, 6 car engine sounds to choose from, 3 wall 
sounds to choose from, fuel consumption, pit roads, speech options and 
other game options etc.
Note* you will need to disable your screen reader to play this game, 
unless you are using a joystick.


BTW The Geneva track is probably the easiest.  Then maybe the Maple Leaf 
Tri-Oval.

What is wrong with wanting to learn to fly a plane, drive a car or a train 
or fly a spaceship without combat involved?  Blind people cannot do these 
things in real life so the next best thing for me at least are the sims.

Seriously, shooting or at least some stratogy is needed.
If you mean just fly round in the air doing not that much then get a 
sighted person to play orbit sim with you.

Play for 30 minutes, then fall assleap.
Its real boring.

Why someone would want a partially accessible game escapes me.  It would 
infuriate me to get interested in a game, really having fun with it, only 
to find that I could not complete it because I couldn't see what I need

Why couldn't we do a Shuttle launch? I have a friend who went to Space
Camp one year and she ended up being Shuttle Commander. They even let
her try as Shuttle pilot in the simulator which was cool. I think with
the right accessibility aids flying a space shuttle is no different
than any other aircraft. You just have to make sure to get the angles
right when taking off and landing or you will turn into a fireball.

Anyway, I would love a space shuttle simulator. I've always wanted to
fly one of the shuttles and it shouldn't be that hard to create. Just
need to get the right kind of actors to do for the communications
between the flight crew and NASA. As well as the flight crew and the
International Space Station etc.

But there ought to be a way via the keyboard and or a USB controller

With the right programming I think we could launch too.  Its no different 
then taking off in a plane, only more complex maybe but the principle is the 
same and the launch itself is aided by computers in real life too.

What is wrong with wanting to learn to fly a plane, drive a car or a 
train or fly a spaceship without combat involved?  Blind people cannot do

what would be the point to not shooting.
Seriously, shooting or at least some stratogy is needed.
If you mean just fly round in the air doing not that much then get a 
sighted person to play orbit sim with you.

Play for 30 minutes, then fall assleap.
Its real boring.

Tdv is very good as a flight sim if someone did a regular flight sym without

Well, I don't want to sound negative, but my guess it is the technical
skills required to create a simulator that the ag developers lack.
Unlike a game a realistic flight simulator, space simulator, whatever
requires a pretty decent amount of physics and a whole lot of math to
make absolutely realistic. Something like MS Flight Simulator is very
realistic, is good enough to train pilots on, because it has a very
realistic physics engine that behaves much like the actual aircraft
does in real life. Its difficult for an amateur developer to do if
they don't have the technical background for it. Even I would have
difficulty of creating a completely realistic flight simulator as
physics and math weren't my best subjects in college. I got passing
grades, but nothing to write home about.

If you are from one of the European countries, my recommendation is to
ask questions in the forums because basketsim has many European
players.
As matches are concerned, you have to play around with the combo boxes

I have had a few.  Fuel shortage when non should have been.  losing altitude 
when I did not press the dive button.  Crashing on runway when I was on the 
locking tone.

I managed in 1.4 quite well.  What has changed? Was on the locking tone all

Also, listen for that solid long tone. When you lose it try to find it and 
stay on it.

Sure I took the landing gear out and stayed on the locking tone of the 
beacon.  Sorry for going back and forth like this but I really enjoyed the

Did you take your landing gear out with g when you went below 1000 feet?
Also, if you overshot the beacon, it's possible that you went to far past
it.

Your speed when flying level must be at or bbelow 350, and your nose 
angle

must be at 150 or greater. Use tab, s to check your speed and tab, n to

Hi Imbar,

I know this isn't something you want to hear, but TDV wasn't really
designed for keyboards. I've noticed it is easier to take off and land
using a flightstick, game pad, or something with greater control over
the plane. Keyboards aren't meant for a game like this.

I hope this works, but if it doesn't, please let me know. If you have 
afterburners on, lower your spead. When its at 500 or 600, increase your 
spead until you hear the afterburners kicking in. As soon as that happens, 
decrease your spead immediately. Just slightly decrease your spead until 
it reaches 670 or 680. If it says 687.5 knots, your still fine. Make sure 
the beacon is in site. If it is more than five miles away, go towards the 
beacon immediately. When your at the four miles range, slowly descend. 
Keep your nose angle at 153 or 155 degrese. Lower your spead now. This is 
very important, since if you fly too fast, you will impact the ground 
before you would have a chanse of landing. Decrease it at the 340 mark. 
Btw, always check where the beacon is situated. Once you reach the Ten 
thousand feet marc, you have to be careful. The alarm sound will be 
activated. Don't panik. Once you hear the spead too low sound, increase 
your spead immediately. Make sure it doesn't go above 340 knots! If it 
does, decrease your spead immediately. Always, even when your decreasing 
and increasing your spead, check your altitude. If you hear the spead 
decreasing and press the tab and the s key to make sure that the spead is 
decreasing, you could stop decreasing. I do not mean stop decreasing, but 
I mean just let go of the down arrow. The plain should decrease by itself. 
You know what to do if you hear the spead too low sound. Once your at 1000 
feet, press g. One thing I forgot. If you want to, you could keep on 
pressing the g key. If your plain is at something like 900 feet or 800 
feet, press the g key immediately. If you hear the spead two low sound 
after you retracted the landing gear, don't worry about it.


Tip. The beacon could be anyware, as long as its less than five miles.

I don't own a gamepad, but I could say this.
You can play on a keyboard in mission mode. The game will be a bit more 
difficult, but you could still beat the game if your skilled enough. I 
don't really have any problems with the keyboard, but with a flyte stick,

TDV is best flown via a USB gamepad and or USB flight yoke.
In this user's opinion, the only good place for the keyboard is only in 
the racing mode.
For landing, the death match mode and the story mode. AKA  the mission

Well, you are right that developing a game requires several different
talents/skills when creating a game from start to finish. First, and
foremost the developer has to have an active imagination and have
fairly decent creative writing skills. Second, there are a number of
technical skills such as learning a programming language as well as
learning a variety of APIs for handling input, sound, music, speech
output, whatever. A developer may need to know various programming
techniques such as artificial intelligence which can cover several
books in and of itself. If a developer wishes to add something like 3d
graphics then that would involve some fairly decent math and physics
skills in order to render the graphics on screen correctly. So
programming games certainly rrequires skills from both a programming
and non-programming nature just to produce a game of any real quality.
As to your questions I'll answer them in a question and answer format
below.

Question:

I'm very curious to know how developers go about making a game,
particularly those games for those folks who enjoy role playing? If one
is blind and doing the developing, I'm wondering what is done to give
the world verisimilitude?

Answer:

Well, by verisimilitude I assume you mean seem realistic/probable its
like any other roll playing game. A game developer would build in stat
checks, rolls, using a common rule set like d20 to figure out if an
action succeeded or failed in game. However, in a computer program all
stat checks would be handled internally foregoing any need to pull out
your own dice and do your own rolls and calculations.

Question:

How is developing a RPG similar
to and different from writing a novel or short story?

Answer:

Well, as far as the non-technical part goes they are very similar.
Before a developer starts programming a game like an rpg he or she
will need to write the back story for each major campaign or adventure
and write up the descriptions of everyone and everything in the game.
A lot of this initial writing will become the majority of the text you
would include in your rpg game. For instance, consider the following
text.

You are standing in the small sea-side town of Southport. As you
stand there gazing at the small village you can detect the salty sent
of the sea not far away. There are a number of people passing in and
out of the buildings along this street. What would you like to do?

Visit the SouthPort In
Visit the Local Taverin
Visit the Docks
Travel Somewhere Else

You'd be surprised how much time you can save by having all these
textual descriptions of people, places, and things written up in
advance before doing the actual coding. So in that respect its kind of
like writing a short story, but its all from a second person point of
view.

However, unlike doing creative writing there is the technical side to
creating an rpg game. There is quite a bit of coding involved here,
and of course you will need something like the Dungeons and Dragons
handbooks to actually create a realistic enough system for handling
stat checks and things like that. Since the DND guides are fairly
standard I'd use those as an example for doing combat, skill checks,
and other rpg elements that requires a dice throw.

As it happens I'm working on a rpg game myself, one based on the DC
Universe, and I'm using the Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 handbooks to kind
of help with the stat checks, building custom classes, and things like
that I need to make the game somewhat realistic.For instance, since
the Flash can move at the speed of light I obviously set his dexterity
to 18 the maximum allowable in DND. That would give him an extra 4
points to any dice roll requiring speed/agility.I also created a
custom class called Speadster which gives him an extra 2 points to a
dice roll for speed as that's his unique special power. See how the
DND rule handbooks can help with creating a custom rpg?

talking about Sryth, always did have some fighting/combat in it, but
there was a lot of exploration as well to make up for the violence and
combat. However, the most recent additions to the game are almost
exclusively combat/fighting oriented with very little to do with any
exploration or puzzle solving. This is what I don't like about the
recent versions of the game.

Anyway, if you want some games that don't have a lot of violence in
them you might want to try Packman Talks and Sarah and the Castle of
Witchcraft and Wizardry by PCS Games. PCS Games also has a game called
Super Dog's Bone Hunt. All of these games seemed to be aimed towards
children to young adult without hacking, slashing, or shooting your
way through the games. In Packman you mainly have to avoid the ghosts,
and in Sarah you can stun but not kill the ghosts with Sarah's magic
wand. I think this might be something you are looking for.

by a property and, it's still on the roll dice menu, usually I have to hit 
escape twice to get it back to where I need it.  As for the noises being

Recently had two problems with the downloadable version of the rs game
client software. I have emailed them, but no response. So that is why I 
am

asking here.

1. I've had the game freeze up on me 3 different times. One time was on a
monopoly board. I was playing against 2 bots when it was a bots turn. The
bot was putting houses on a property when it froze up. I left the table,
came back in and it was still froze up. I eventually had to quit the 
game.


The other two times was while playing black jack. I was playing with 
another
person. We put our bets on the table, and the dealer never dealt. When 
the

other person stood up, it kicked me off the table. We went back in and
started playing again when it froze up again in the same situation.

2. This problem is in the monopoly game. This particular nuisance I have 
not

written to RS games about, but thought I would post it here.

The problem is a focus issue. I am playing the rs games on a windows 7 32
bit machine running jaws 12. The problem arises when the appropriate 
window

does not have focus.

For instance, you just rolled doubles. You move to a property you want to
buy. But instead of being able to buy it, the roll menu is in focus. You
have to roll again before the option to buy the property is available. So
you end up buying the property after you have already rolled again.

Or, a more major problem is when you are managing assets, and you hit 
enter
on a property to build houses, mortgage, etc, many times it will lose 
focus.
You hit buy house, it builds the house. But then dumps you back to the 
roll

menu. You go back to manage  assets, select the property, select build
house, and it says invalid. The reason it is invalid is that the other 
two
menu selections windows are still open and causing it to be invalid. So 
one

has to jump through many hoops for it to gain focus on those open windows
and get them closed before proceeding. Sometimes this has taken me many
minutes to just build a couple of houses. I've even exited and logged 
back

on to clear this up. Quite, quite annoying.

There also has been instances where after my turn was over, I could press
the up or down arrow key and windows would be there. Hitting enter on the
appropriate item will cause that window to disappear. I've even gotten to
roll when it wasn't my turn because of these ghost windows.

Has anyone else experienced these problems or annoyances? How did you
resolve them.

BTW, does anyone think the sounds are too loud? I only have one sound 
card
for both jaws and any other sounds. The main sound that plays when 
selecting

a game or table is too loud and must be turned down in order to hear the
selections. The background sounds that play during game play many times
overwhelms jaws and I have to wait for it to stop playing in order to
continue. I think that once the volume for the primary sound is set, this
setting should be saved in the game so that the next time the game 
launches

or you switch tables, it doesn't go back to full volume.

Hi Imbar,

Unfortunately, no on all counts. The fact of the matter is such game
sims are difficult to create given the mount of math and physics
involved, and I don't think just anyone can create such a game unless
they have a higher education than high school. Some people have been
able to play Microsoft Flight Simulator, which doesn't have any combat
in it, but its not exactly 100% accessible either.

For instance,a lot of the guys like Ron who is in to MS Flight
Simulator uses programs like Its Your Plane to add a copilot to the
game that will take off, land, and do other things for you. You might
instruct the copilot to take the plane up to 20,000 feet and it will
do it for you. While this makes the game somewhat accessible, makes it
playable, it doesn't allow you personally to take manual control of
the plane and fly it yourself. So its not exactly 100% accessible if
you are looking for something you can fly on your own.

There are similar problems with Microsoft Train simulator. Some things
are accessible and some things aren't. Its not a full proof 100%
accessible sim. Sometimes it is the miner things like not being able
to keep an eye on the boiler pressure gauge as you are rrolling down
the track that turn out to be big problems for us since we will likely
blow up the boiler without keeping an eye on it etc.

I guess what might be nice to do some day is if someone would take the
source for the open source sims like Flight Gear and modify them with
accessibility support. I've got them installed on Linux and I know
they have Windows versions too. So I imagine if someone were to add
Sapi support and a few other updates they might be accessible. I'd
have to look and see what needs to be done.

Yep, that has happened to me as well.  Most often though after I had had 
very little sleep the nights before so tried to get a full 8 hours that 
night.


The game instructions do say that you can have good or bad luck.  Like I 
have been crashed out by a drunk driver, or run into a rock slide, or the 
refrigeration unit went bad and I lost part of my load.  But then other 
times I can take the entire trip with no weigh stations or tickets and 
make near $2,000.

Junior patch it will give you an unlocked copy of the game. Someone
else was having troubles downloading the patch from my site, but I

abandonware, just run the tarzan junior patch to register it.


Second, you will here Tarzan say wo, when he's four steps from a pit, then 
wo, when he's one step. At that point jump.


for the vines, simply wait until you here the beeping vine sound in the 
far left speaker and press up to jump up and grab it, where you'll here 
tarzan saying I gottit after that, press down when the vine is in the 
far right speaker to drop off on the other side.


You can practice this in the vine speed round which is a litle minigame 
where you get to try your skills on faster and faster vines.

When he says it the second time hold down the up arrow and tap the right 
arrow quickly about 5 times.

2 When the vine is on your left just jump straight up.

There is know landing beacon sound. Its the solid locking tone you have to

Oh, I loved those old Atari games.  I could play some of them, even though I 
could not see the screen, I just shot everything in my way and managed to

Well, as far as flying games goes there really aren't many to pick from.

First and foremost, is 3D Velocity by BPC Programs. It is really the
best and most accessible flight simulation available for us.

Next, is Puppy 1 by Kitchens Inc. It is not so much a flight sim as it
is an arcade game similar to the old flying games for the Atari 2600
or something like that. You get points for shooting down so many
planes each round.

Finally, if you want a true flight simulator like Microsoft Flight
Simulator 2002 you can purchase a few extra plugins that will make it
more or less accessible. There is one program called Its Your Plane
and there are a couple of others produced which makes it possible to
play MS Flight Simulator 2002 and MS Flight Simulator 2004.
