From the review, it's where the monsters come at you. [Audyssey] chillingham question
Hi, I have a question: I am able to make it to the hermit camp where I have to try to repeat the things that the hermit does to solve his problem. The problem that I'm having is that I get mixed up some times on what he is doing. How should I go about completing this? I hope to hear from you soon. Re: [Audyssey] chillingham question
I don't have Chillingham, but from the review I heard it's very similar to playing Simon. You hear a sound, then you got to press the correct key associated for the sound, and it goes on and on until a certain length is reached. Hope this helps. -- Chris Hallsworth e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] MSN: [EMAIL PROTECTED] skype: chrishallsworth7266 klango: chrishallsworth - Original Message - From: John Sanders [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Tuesday, November 11, 2008 11:05 PM Subject: [Audyssey] chillingham question Hi, I have a question: I am able to make it to the hermit camp where I have to try to repeat the things that the hermit does to solve his problem. Re: [Audyssey] chillingham question
Hello. When you make it to the camp, your task is to listen to everything the hermit is doing and repeat the things. In order to do that, you must know which key on the keyboard does which action. If I remember correctly, you can always get help by pressing space. He will be doing a few things, and you have to do everything he does without making a wrong move. After completing this, the hermit will help you continue the game. However, if you think you cannot complete it, you can always press f5 to go to the next task. This is as much as I can remember. I hope this message helps you. maja -- original message -- Subject:[Audyssey] chillingham question From: John Sanders [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: 11th November 2008 6:05:40 pm Hi, I have a question: I am able to make it to the hermit camp where I have to try to repeat the things that the hermit does to solve his problem. Having never played it when it was around I couldn't compare any game that happens to come around with the original, but it sounds like something I would've liked to try out for sure. You'd probably have to get people to do the voices, and not having any experience with programming I don't know how hard it'd be to program, but it sounds like an interesting game. I'd probably buy it just to take a look at it and see what all it was about. MissWings At 08:56 PM 7/14/2008, Bryan Peterson wrote: Hi all, Over the past few days I've been browsing Wikipedia looking at their info on old NES games I used to play or watch my siblings play. There are quite a few games that I'd forgotten about but was reminded of during my search for others. One such game was Maniac Mansion, developed by Lucas Arts originally for the computer but later ported to such systems as the old NES. Just a little while ago I got to thinking about how easy or hard it would be to create a game like that for the blind gaming market. Technically it might be fairly easy since it uses a point and click, menu-based style of gameplay like in the Bavisoft games. You click a verb and then an object or person. You might have the usual verbs like take, use, talk to and stuff like that. So you'd click, let's say Use Toilet. If you made a logical combination you would perform the action. But Maniac Mansion was very much a humorous title. The premise was that a mad scientist, Fred Edison, lived in a mansion with his wife Edna and his son Ed. Twenty years ago a sentient, alien meteor crashed near his house and took control of his mind. It decided to use Fred to invent a machine to steal the brains of the young people of Earth. That's where you came in. You played as Dave, a college kid out to rescue his girlfriend Sandy from the Edisons' mansion. But you couldn't do italone, so you enlisted the aid of two other friends, whom you'd choose from a roster of six at the start of the game. Each characer had his/her own strengths, weaknesses and even their own plot, which made the replay value of the game extremely high. On your quest you could meet all the whacky characters who called the mansion home. It was extremely puzzle oriented but at the same time there was all kinds of weird stuff you could do just for fun. One infamous thing was the ability to steal the h amster belonging to Ed and microwave it. ou could then give it to him. Of course since he would ultimately prove to be your best hope for completing the game, you probably wouldn't want to do that. Personally I liked the idea of playing doorbell ditchers with him. But I got to thinking that it'd be neat if someone decided to create a game similar to Maniac Mansion. We've got plenty of the Interactive Fiction style of game, which certainly seems to fit what Maniac Mansion is, but nothing quite so enjoyable. So I thought I'd start this thread and see who all remembers that game and what the general feeling would be about an audio game in tat same style. [Audyssey] chillingham and If type games
Hi Nickel. While vaguely in the same genre as chillingham, the 7-128 mystery games have a very different way of working, sinse they involve moving around locations and asking specific questions of people in order to solve a crime, with none of that use object with which chillingham has. also, the 7-128 games are more difficult than chillingham, but imho chillingham was far too easy anyway (I finished the hole thing in the space of one evening, which was slightly disappointing). the other difference is that while the 7-128 games do feature cut scenes with audio clips and background music, the interface and descriptions of rooms are handled by either the in built game voice or jaws, where as Chillingham has everything as recorded sound files. John, you can download Kelly Sepergia's incredibly comprihensive review of chillingham (and grizly gulch), from the downloads page of bavisoft found at http://www.bavisoft.com/download.htmm which should show you how the game works. Re: [Audyssey] chillingham was Flight Commander
Hi Ron. You need to be able to play the organ, but the lady in the church is playing it, so use the frog on the lady to attempt to scare her off. It won't be precisely successful, so you'll need to do something to the frog to make it slightly more terrifying. Beware the Grue! [Audyssey] chillingham was Flight Commander
Hi Dark Speaking of games. About Chillingham. Okay I've got the frog, and know it's something to do with the church organ which ties into the parrot song if memory serves, but I've got no ideas about what I should attempt to do? Any help appreciated, I just hope it's not coming across wimpy game like. About 18 months ago, I E-mailed the chap who was working on Flight commander. Unfortunately, the game was his Msc thesis, and apparently though he'd finished the Msc, he hadn't finished the game beyond the tutorial mode. also unfortunately (for us anyway), he'd apparently got a rather intensive job so didn't have any plans to finish the game. this is sad, sinse the old demo of Flight commander sounded good, but we'll just have to stick it on the shelf with Castle quest, Aemon, the Void, Bsc football, and probably a few other titles as well. I hope said list doesn't include Max shrapnel, Chillingham 2 and superliam 2 as well. Beware the Grue! (who is most deffinately stil around, and stil hungry for adventurers, - or anyone else come to that). Then agin, it as four years from the time that Grizzly Gulch was released, and as of now it's only been three years since Chillingham. My guess is that they just like to take a really long time between releases. Disappointing, really, since their previous titles aren't quite to my style anyway. [Audyssey] Chillingham Question
Hi all. A question for all you chillingham players. In the anteeque store, You have 3 songs that you get to play on the victrola. What are the 3 songs, and who sang it on the records? The reason i'm asking you guys is because I went out and purchased a 1904 victrola from Lunge Auction and I want to know what the songs were in the games and whether you guys could find a 78rpm records of the songs. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sky. P. S. Oh, while inspecting the victrola in the anteeque store, I think it should give a discription on what it is. Like, for example. Its a record player. It has a handal on the side to wind it up, a stop spring, a turntable, and a needle, and on the bottom is a echo box. ___ Gamers mailing list .. [Audyssey] chillingham walkthrough
Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone had time to do a walkthrough of Chillingham, a complete walkthrough of the entire game. Taht would be wonderful, you don't have to give away secrets, but it would be nice to listen to. I like to hear other gamers do walkthroughs. I am still unable to get Chillingham to work properly on my PC, so I have uninstalled it since Bavisoft wouldn't help me with the problem, they never responded to my e-mails and I would like to hear the game played completely through. I have heard Kelly's mini-walkthrough, but would like to hear the complete game if that is possible. s p o i l e r Don't read on unless you want these spoiler hints. Go to the library and get the rain dancing book. Use the rain dancing book with the dog whistle you received from the professor. It will do something cool. Then you need to catch the frog. After you catch the frog go to the church and scare the organ lady with the frog. Just scaring her with the frog in its normal size won't work, so you'll have to make him bigger. Use one of the potions on the frog, I can't remember which one but try either of them. One of the potions will make it a mutant frog. Use the mutant frog to scare the lady and she'll leave the church. Re: [Audyssey] chillingham
You need to also visit the antique shop several times, usually between visits to other places. The first time you go there nothing happens except that the store owner tells you that you buy anything you break. The second time though, after you've been to some other places, she should ask you to deal with some termites. Doing so will net you your first weapon, the stakes. After that, leave the shop. The next time you go in though, you should notice a desk among the items you can inspect. Examining it reveals something interesting... Go back to Lily's house and examine her desk. You'll discover the secret drawer. Inspect it and take the key you find. use this key on the locked trunk to find a map and a pistol. Return to the antique shop and the shop owner will ask you to get the termites again. Do so and you'll get the bullets. Also, don't forget to grab the bottle from Lily's house and the loose hook from her closet. You'll need both. You'll also need the rope you find by examining the well, so don't forget that. Also remember to take the balloons from the sign in the petstore. The balloons will be your third and final weapon. Also remember to Use the bullets with the pistol before you leave the village, otherwise your gun won't be loaded. After leaving the village via the road, examine the stone marker and take the flowers. You'll need those soon. The first place you should go is toward the swamp. You need to go there in order to get your final weapon powered up. Just use the balloons with the swamp and there's your last weapon. - Original Message - From: Michael Maslo [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'Gamers Discussion list' gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Sunday, October 15, 2006 7:13 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] chillingham List: I must be the big or goofiest man in the world. Re: [Audyssey] Chillingham
Hey Lora, when I purchased Chillingham the first week it came out, there was no way to just purchase it and download it. So, I don't believe there is a way to purchase it and download it. I am 99% sure that you have to purchase it and they will mail you out a copy of the game on a CD, so that you can install it on more than just one computer, or at least I think that is the reason that they mail you the disc. Re: [Audyssey] Chillingham
Actually I think the reason why you can't download the game is because the file would be too big to put on a web site. It would probably cause them to exceed their allowable bandwidth. Re: [Audyssey] Chillingham and games with replay value
Part of the challenge of a text adventure is figuring out what will, and discovering through frustration what will not, work as a direction on what action to take. How many times have you typed a direction only to hear something like I don't understand that. or a What? or something like that. You won't have this challenge or frustration with Chillingham. So, text adventure with your own words?, or courses of action using a menu of predetermined choices of action. I prefer the first choice I present. That's part of the fun of those games in my opinion. - Original Message - From: Raul A. Gallegos [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Saturday, May 13, 2006 2:15 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Chillingham and games with replay value I cannot speak for the replay value of this game since I've never bought it. But after listening to a couple of reviews and comments from other players who do have it I do not wish to get it. To me it sounds like a menu driven text adventure game which I rather do not like. I'd rather play a text adventure, puzzle solving, problem solving game by typing in commands on my own instead of using menus. Of course this is just my opinion and I realize that. ari said the following on Sat, May 13, 2006 at 11:41:04AM +0200: Hi all, How is Chillingham, what is the object of the game, and does it have replay value? Re: [Audyssey] Chillingham and games with replay value
HI, it seems to me as if visually impaired gamers have either no or little experience with the mainstream games, or just think that the level of complexity you get from these games is impossible for the blind accessible ones. Either way, looks like they get too easily grateful for what the developers release nowadays, thinking it's the best they can get and not wanting more. What's so cool about fighting bad guys, shooting at snakes, catching rats with a net or spraying termites in an antique shop? (Have a friend who bought Bavisoft games so played them when I visited him.) The way you do it is all the same and there is nothing more to it. Although I'm gonna give out a major spoiler now, I'm gonna betray the most perfect part about my planned boss for one of my games now to give you an idea about the potential complexity I do imagine. It's gonna be a game somewhat inspired by Resident Evil, so that you will get to face him several times throughout the game and will have the choice to fight for your life or run away like hell. HOwever, he is too strong for you to beat him, you can only stun him for a while so that you have enough time to run, and he can easily beat you. In the end, however, you will gain control over a military battle vehicle equipped with a machine gun, a grenade launcher (with three possible types of grenades) and a flame thrower and will face him in this final battle. Depending on what you do, you could get several a bit different endings. You can use any of the three weapons or just try to drive over him. If you use the machine gun, although it's strong enough to get rid of most other creatures easily, he can regenerate well enough to stay healthy. The rain of bullets would however prevent him from moving ahead very quickly, so that you could easily run away and end the game in one possible way. If you use the grenades, it would either do nothing to him as well or would injure him seriously, so that he would get out of your way for a while, but his regeneration would again make him stand up after some time. And if you used the flame thrower or ran over him, you'd crush him like a bug (hey, hey, Super Liam! :-) but it of course would be pretty darn difficult to do so that the battle would have something really tough to it... Not to mention that if you combined the weapons together, you'd still achieve nothing except stunning or paralysing him for a while and thus getting a less satisfying ending, if you didn't use fire or the weight of the vehicle, again. But you can of course still play Grizzly Gulch and catch some rats after winning this game. :-D Best wishes, Lukas - Original Message - From: matt [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list Gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Sunday, May 14, 2006 1:31 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Chillingham and games with replay value Where did you hear you can become a criminal in Grizzly Gulch? I do however think that the replay value is pretty small. The only part that makes that interesting is instead of having three ways to shoot at bad guys you have five. I was wondering whether Chillingham was different. A companies games I'd like to buy are Code Factory's, but I wish their was a place where I could order them online. This is what also annoys me about Gma games, and other vendors, where they don't support online ordering. I know you can pay by other means, but since I don't control that sort of finance, it's really too much effort. Another thing that I have heard about Code Factory's games is that you get the game on a CD, with no activation or registration. Re: [Audyssey] Chillingham and games with replay value
Hi all, I have found the article. It is a review of GG written by Randy Hammer. It is in the 23rd issue of Audyssey. I have pasted some of the lines below: ' There's also the matter of the plot. There is very little flexibility in the game. In fact, the story line is not changeable at all that I can find. Somewhere I remember reading that you can change the plot by trying to become a criminal instead of a lawman, but I can't seem to find a way to do this. Add to the linear plot the fact that the game is rather unbalanced. This means that you start off relatively easy, and slowly ramp up with each mission. The game gets generally harder by the addition of more enemies per encounter and the speed at which they attack. This is great until you reach the final mission. At this point the game goes from medium difficulty straight to incredibly hard! As of this publishing I don't know of anyone else who has beaten the game besides myself, mainly because of the last mission. I agree that the last mission should be terribly difficult, but there should be a better segue into it.' Ari ___ Gamers mailing list .. There is also more than the menu driven things. You get to shoot bad guys and try to avoid hitting Cecil the bank teller or the lady. You also get to shoot in the shooting range which brings up a question. How is there a robot in the wild west? Also you get to do other cool things like swipe at rats with a net and shoot at snakes. I do however think that the replay value is pretty small. The only part that makes that interesting is instead of having three ways to shoot at bad guys you have five. Three being left right and center and five being left left middle middle right middle and right. That makes it pretty difficult. Well just my two cents, Later, Matt - Original Message - From: ari [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list Gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Saturday, May 13, 2006 6:10 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Chillingham and games with replay value Hi Raul, This is what makes me not buy Grizzly Gulch iether. Re: [Audyssey] Chillingham and games with replay value
well I have played Grizzly Gulch, and I think it has a good replay value and I haven't gotten very far in Chillingham because it keeps causing an error that I haven't had the time to fix so that I could play it more, but from what I have played so far Chillingham and Grizzly Gulch have good replay value. Chillingham is about this guy who gets a letter from his friend in Chillingham and he could tell that she was in trouble and goes to Chillingham to rescue her from whatever is going wrong, or something like that. Someone who has probably played it more can tell you more about it. BEAN ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] Chillingham and games with replay value
I cannot speak for the replay value of this game since I've never bought it. How informative. Can you explain a little more as to why you feel this? Thanks. Neat! Does anyone know if this rumor is true or how to accomplish it? - Original Message - From: ari [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list Gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Saturday, May 13, 2006 7:10 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Chillingham and games with replay value Hi Raul, This is what makes me not buy Grizzly Gulch iether. At least I heard a review of the game, and it was like: 'What would you like to do now?' The user basically just chose and, as you say, it sounds so menue driven. I heard a rumour that, if you wanted to, you could become even a criminal, but when I contacted bavisoft to ask some questions about GG, I got no answer (to be fair it was near Christmas a few years ago). It now goes against my principals to buy a game where the game generates a code, and I need to ask the vendor for an unlock code. I tried it with Troopanum, but I can't stand the fact that everytime my computer crashes or is formatted, I have to email them for a new unlock code to break the generated one. I'm not talking about games that connect and get a code from the server, I just don't like people having so much control over a product that I feel I've purchased the right to play the full version, without having always to ask them for unlock codes. What happens if for some reason they refuse to give me a new code, because they've somehow lost my record of purchase, or they don't answer my emails because they've gone out of business? Re: [Audyssey] Chillingham and games with replay value
Hi, Ari. GMA does have a online ordering wizard built in to the games. It walks you through the ordering process, and you then just paste your order in to an email and send. As for having to recieve unlock codes for games as a end user I don't like them either, but what would you expect a developer to do to secure their products. It is not there to lock out paid users, but to attempt to crack down on the users who would download the demo, enter in a stolen product id, and get away with steeling the game. ___ Gamers mailing list ..
