[Audyssey] stem stumper questions

2014-08-07 Thread Nicol
HI all
I'm slowly getting the hang of stem stumper thanks to theresa.
I've picked up 2 strange things in stem stumper
The first time I launched stem stumper a screen came up asking for my apple
password.
This is strange because I've set up the finger print touch ID.
So whenever I download an ap it asks for my touch id and I just put my
finger on the home button.
Why did stem stumper asked for my apple password?
Anyway, I entered my apple password.
I am 100 percent sure of the password.
I've made a note on my computer of the password so I'm 100 percent certain
that is my password.
Anyway stem stumper did not accept my password.
The next time I launched stem stumper same thing happened.
It again asked for my apple password.
I entered it again but it didn't accept it.
Then the next time I launched stem stumper the game told me : could not sign
in, create an account.
Then after that each time I launch stem stumper no screen came up to sign in
or create an account.
This is confusing.
Like I said, I've set up my finger print touch id so it is not needed to
put in my apple password.
Why did the game asked for my apple password a couple of times?
The second strange thing I've picked up with stem stumper.
IN the beginning the first 3 or 4 times I played the game:
While I flic left and right through the level, voice over would read to me
the alphanumeric cells.
But now all of a sudden voice over no longer reads these cells to me.
I do hear the important info such as the sounds for the acorns, furtilizers
and stumps but I no longer hear any alphanumeric cells.
Those of you who play stem stumper: do you hear voice over read the
alphanumeric cells?
Is it important to hear the alphanumeric cells?
Will it help me in game play?
If so, how can I get voice over to read the alphanumeric cells?
Many thanks for any help.

Re: [Audyssey] stem stumper questions

2014-08-07 Thread Teresa Cochran
I don't remember if Stem Stumper is on Apple's Game Center, which is a social
gaming service. This is probably why you're getting the prompt for your
password. This is your Apple Account password, not your passcode to unlock your
device screen. The decision to use Game Center is entirely up to you.

The setting for announcing alphanumeric cell labels is in settings. Again,
you'll have to decide whether you need that information or whether it's
distracting. Personally, I find it distracting and have turned it off, but you
may think otherwise.

[Audyssey] stem stumper questions

2014-07-28 Thread Nicol
Hi all
I downloaded stem stumper and I like the sounds.
I heard alphanumerical cells being spoken.
It reminded me of a chess board.
I played 5 levels already but I ran out of flower powder.
The game told me I should make sure to blow up the right acorns.
How do I know which are the right acorns to blow up?
I selected sonar.
Do you also use sonar mode or do you use animation mode if you are a
beginner?
The program told me that animation mode is for beginners.
But I heard somewhere that for voice over users sonar is the best.
I can't remember where I heard it.
So for a beginner like me, would you recommend sonar or animation mode?
And do you perhaps know how many mb is the stem stumper ap?
The reason for asking: my service provider charges me 2 south african rand
per mb so I would like to work out how much they will charge me for
downloading stem stumper.
If I know the amount of mb, I can just multiply it by 2.
Any help is much appreciated.

Re: [Audyssey] stem stumper questions

2014-07-28 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Nicol,

This game is playable for anyone. I think it's assumed that beginners will be
sighted, so the animation mode is better. The sonar mode is considered to be
harder for sighted players, because there is no visual feedback. So if you have
no sight, use sonar mode.

[Audyssey] stem stumper

2014-07-25 Thread Nicol
HI all
I'm now getting the hang of my IPhone5s so I am ready to check out some
games.
The first game I downloaded was zany touch.
I like it a lot.
At this time I'm not going to buy the full version.
The only difference between the free and full version: with the free
version, there is only 30 tasks and then the game ends which is fine for me.
The full version gets faster and faster untill its humanly impossible to
respond.
That's the only difference.
And with the free version I can also try out the game on medium and hard
levels.
I don't have a lot of money to spend so I'll rather buy stem stumper after
trying the demo.
For those of you who played stem stumper, a few questions.
I can always check out the demo but it would be nice to get answers from
experienced players.
is it necessary to play stem stumper with earphones?
And does stem stumper have the same audio field that pc audio games have?
IN other words, will I hear sounds in my left ear, in the middle and in my
right ear if I use earphones?
And if its necessary to use earphones to play stem stumper, does the game
have a speaker test function that pc audio games have?
Any feedback is much appreciated.

Hi, Nicol,

Stem Stumper has a tutorial mode for the first several levels. If you touch the
top half of the screen, it will be read to you at the beginning of each level.

Stem Stumper doesn't have stereo sound, so you can play it without headphones.
You just have to be extra careful to know exactly what you're listening for.

Let me know if you have more questions. This is one of my favorite games. I've
replayed several levels several times.

Re: [Audyssey] stem stumper

2014-07-25 Thread dark

Hi Teresa.

Is there a recording of Stem stumper, or youtube tutorial (I know the
developers did one for their word search game)? the game sounds interesting
but I've never fancied paying money for it before knowing a little more
about what it is like, and I'm not %100 sure on the mechanics from the
descriptions I've read, in particular I'm not exactly sure whether it's a
maze game, or a 2D tile based puzzler, and I'm afraid I'm too much of a
tight wod to go and spend money on something when I'm not exactly certain
what it is about :D.

This is also why the description on audiogame.snet is aa litle brief I'm
afraid, though I'm actually interested in the game for myself rather than
just for writing accurate db descriptions.

Oh, and I do believe we had a similar conversation about the game previusly
on audeasy but probably because a lot has come up sinse then especially in
game terms what with dark room, inquisitor etc I'm afrai I don't remember
the details.

Re: [Audyssey] stem stumper

2014-07-25 Thread Teresa Cochran
Ok, I'm not sure how to classify the game, so I'll describe it briefly.

Mimea the vine has to make her way through obstacles in order to obtain
fertilizer. As the levels progress, there are more challenging obstacles, such
as stubborn stumps and angry acorns, which have certain properties.
there are also defensive tools, such as slingshots and shields. In later
levels, the specific fertilizer caches have to be obtained in a certain order.
Also, in order to probress to advanced levels, each previous level has a
certain number of bonuses to commplete, known as curious carrots. You can
complete levels successfully without getting these, but you won't be able to
progress to advanced levels without them.

So in my estimation, it's sort of a combination maze and puzzle game. I have
played this game for three years. I go back and replay it from time to time.

Re: [Audyssey] stem stumper

2014-07-25 Thread dark

Well Teresa that isn't actually quite what I thought.

I knew the objective was guide a vine to fertiliser but from the description
i thought this was more sort of like robo E, than actually a case of finding
and using tools in the right way to overcome obstacles, which sounds rather
like my sort of challenge.
What is the display like? Is it a case of the hole level being shown on
screen at once with you needing to memorize the layout by running your
finger from space to space, or can you walk Minea around and learn the
layout. That was actually soemthing that always confused me a little in the
description sinse on the one hand it sounded like a maze game with a
complete spacial overview, on the other there was the business about music
themes telling you where various objects were.

Hi, Nicol,

Stem Stumper has a tutorial mode for the first several levels. If you
touch the top half of the screen, it will be read to you at the
beginning of each level.

Stem Stumper doesn't have stereo sound, so you can play it without
headphones. You just have to be extra careful to know exactly what
you're listening for.

Let me know if you have more questions. This is one of my favorite
games. I've replayed several levels several times.

You can explore the screen as much as you want. All of the level is on one
screen, but you can walk around and nothing will happen until you activate
items. The tools are located at various positions around the screen. There's a
text label along with the signatuhe music for the item. Certain tools are only
available on certain levels, so you have to explore to find out if there's a
shield or a slingshot on that level. There's definitely a path to follow, but
there are lots of things to accomplish along the way.

Mimea the vine has to make her way through obstacles in order to obtain

such as stubborn stumps and angry acorns, which have certain properties.
there are also defensive tools, such as slingshots and shields. In later

Re: [Audyssey] Stem stumper for smart phones

2011-08-18 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Che,
Here is my listing for the game for iPhones.
Ananse Productions, Games For the Rest of Us.

Home of Stem Stumper, a blind-accessible puzzle game
for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
A dynamic layered soundtrack to guide Mimea the vine
through 100 brain-teasing levels.
Use sling shots, sprinklers and Angry Acorns
to open paths for her to go.
Use the right combination to rack up points and prove once and for all
you´re smarter than a 6th grader.

The inaugaral game of Ananse Productions, Stem Stumper is built from the
ground up to be enjoyed by both the iPhone's burgeoning blind community and
fully sighted players around the world.
Stem Stumper is fully integrated with VoiceOver, Apple's builtin screen
reader for iOS devices and and Talkback.
And if you think you can solve our puzzles with a blindfold on, we're
including a sound only sonar mode.
While this might be Ananse Productions first project, members of Ananse´s
team have already worked on several successful projects. Kwasi Mensah, lead
developer and programmer has worked on games as varied as Green Day: Rock
Band, Borderlands and Mass Effect: Pinnacle Station.
Jennifer Kanis, our lead artist, has worked on tihe iPhone games in the
Curious George franchise for FableVision.
Dawn-Marie Dunn, our Audio guru, has been involved in gaming for more than
ten years and music for more than twenty composing

original audio for Flash projects and sound effects for websites.

Fully integrated with VoiceOver and Talkback

10 Beautifully drawn gardens all with their own dynamic soundtrack
110 Puzzles
Sound only sonar mode

Stem Stumper, the innovative puzzle game you can play with your eyes closed
is coming to Android. On Tuesday August 9th, you'll be able to chow down and
feed Mimea the vine on both iOS and Android OS 2.1 or later.
We're also releasing Stem Stumper Lite, our free version that let's you try
20 of our brain teasing levels for free before buying the full game.

The objective in Stem Stumper is to get your plant, Mimea to grow in order
to reach the bag of fertilizer hidden in the level. To do so, you'll have to
bypass obstacles and destroy anything that is in her way. Stem Stumper can
be played in one of two ways. If you are playing this game traditionally by
using sight, you tap around the screen until you find what you are looking
for. Playing this way isn't hard at all and may actually be too easy. The
second way to play Stem Stumper is to use the audio cues only. You can
either use audio cues in normal mode or in sonar mode where the whole screen
turns black. As you tap around the screen, the audio in the game changes.
The music gets louder as you get closer to what you're suppose to be looking
for When you finally tap the area you are looking for, an audible alarm goes
off. It's a different alarm for different objects.
Instructions are still written in text so if you are blind or having trouble
seeing, you won't be able to read the instructions that tell you what to do
or how to play. You'll need someone to explain it to you. But, it seems that
if you go into your iPhone settings and enable VoiceOver in the
accessibility section, the instructions will be read out to you. I'm
assuming if you are sight impaired, you would have this setting already
enabled, which I did not. Once this is enabled, you can play the entire game
without looking as now, the instructions as well as all menu items will be
read out loud to you. It will even tell you every detail about the game you
are playing including how much flower power you have left and what items you
are tapping on. With VoiceOver on now though, you have to double tap
everything instead of just single tapping it.

Check out a new blind-accessible iPhone game called Stem Stumper:

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to let the SIG know the Stem Stumper, our blind accessible iPhone
puzzle game, is now on the App Store. You can find it on the App Store at
http://goo.gl/FdPOL . While we focused on blind accessibility we tried to make
the game as all around accessible as possible. You only need one finger (no
double taps required with VoiceOver off) and you can play it without the sound
on. There are also no time limits.

Hey, I am having a little bit of problem with Stem Stumper. When I
finish level four and start level five I have notice that while I move
my fingure across the screen this menu pops up.
It's give me two options which are fertilizer toggle on off. The
second one is acorn toggle on off.
Then I have also notice that there is no manuel included in the game.
I do know that the other games I have for my iphone have manuels to
tell you what all the options are for and what they do.
Would someone please help me with this issue so I can get back playing
Stem Stumper.

Thanks very much.

Those are actually toggles across the top of the screen. Slide your finger

what all the options are for and what they do.
Would someone please help me with this issue so I can get back playing Stem
Stumper.
Thanks very much.

I guess you didn't get to that tutorial part yet or you didn't read carl's
message clearly enough. either way, switching off any of the options will
cause the game to ignore that item on the screen as you move, so you won't
get any music to guide you to it, nore will be notified if you're over one.

[Audyssey] Stem Stumper Looking for Testers!

2011-03-25 Thread Kwasi Mensah
Hey Audyssey,

I wanted to let everyone know that Stem Stumper, Ananse Productions' blind
accessible iOS game, is looking for more testers! You don't have to be in
the Boston area this time around. If you have an iOS device and are
interested please email me at kwasi.men...@ananseproductions.com. I've
included instructions below for getting me your UDID.

Even if you don't have an iOS device I'd be more than happy to show the game
to you over food/coffee.

Thanks,
Kwasi

-

Since Stem Stumper isn't in the App Store yet we need some information about
your iPhones in order to make a build that will run on them, the
UDIDspecifically.

If you have email setup on your iPhone the easiest way to get your UDID is
to download the free app Ad Hoc Helper (
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ad-hoc-helper/id285691333?mt=8) from the app
store. It'll create an email with all the information we need. Send the
email to kwasi.men...@ananseproductions.com and you should be all set!

Otherwise please follow the steps at
http://www.innerfence.com/howto/find-iphone-unique-device-identifier-udid
