Also, Jim doesn't necisarrally use uncopyrighted sounds. He doesn't need to
as the game is free. If you want to cell a game you need to buy sounds or
use free sounds.

Re: [Audyssey] Acefire price

2008-02-17 Thread Cara Quinn
James, thank you vary much!!! I personally haven't seen this game
yet nor do I wish to further comment on any price point. I'd
personally like to say that you all, (you know who you are) should be
bloody ashamed of yourselves for treating not only a developer for
your own community like this, but a fellow list member! I mean
basically publicly humiliating someone who has taken the time / effort
to put together something for your enjoyment, (how ever simple it may
be) and you slam him outright and in a public forum, for no reason
other than the game that he spent his time on doesn't meet your
expectations?…

I'm sorry, but you really don't make the idea of doing anything for
the community a very appealing one. Unbelievable! -simply
unbelievable…

I'm sorry for contributing to this thread, especially since I'm a
bit behind on my email, (about 350 left to go) but OMG! I've
just seen too much vitriol against Damien for simply asking for
something for his work?… As James has already said, if you don't like
it, why not try addressing it with Damien directly, or just don't buy
the bloody thing!… lol! But can't you at least have a little respect
while doing so?… Is it really that difficult?!

thanks for your time and have a great rest of your Sunday evening…

Sincerely,

Cara :)

Re: [Audyssey] Acefire price

2008-02-17 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Nicol,

One reason that I do not charge for my games is because if I were to earn any
money it would mess with my government housing rent, my government medical
health insurance spend down amount, my government food stamps and possibly even
my government disability income check. But just because I do not charge for my
games doesn't mean that others shouldn't want some compensation for all of
their hard work. I mean even just all of the time and effort that it takes to
learn computer programming before you can even start to write your first game.
Not to mention all of the cost for a programming language, web site costs, time
and effort to find or buy sounds etc etc. Personally I very much enjoy
creating and sharing my games. I think more so as a hobby rather than as a
business, but again that doesn't mean that others shouldn't want to be
compensated.

2008-02-16 Thread Trouble
you want to know something. If you go to the store and buy just a
pair of dice. Even though they are only six sided with numbers on
them. they still cost money.
Some of the most quickest games to play cost money.
Be lucky some game dev's put out a few free bees. When they could
charge for all no matter how quick game play is.

Do you play games all day when you're not working. It sure seems that way as

hi all
what is all this about?
somebody developes a game and people demand it'd be free? how ridiculous. i
am all for getting something freeand not having to pay but how can one start
telling others what they are supposed to do with their owngames? there is
still like 50 mails whodeal with what one should or shouldn't charge.
kindergarden stuff.

if you do not think it is worth it then do not purchase just like one does
with any item out on the market.
i don't understand what the fuss is all about. in the meantime stick to the
free games as i have to do cause i am on a tight budge and have to choose
wisely what to invest in.
tarzan junior comes to mind, abandonware and free for all now in the full
version. but do not tell others what to do with their own merchandise.

Yeah, and I don't know any games currently that have been made with the
aduio game maker or similar package, most makers of games have wrote their
games out by hand.

Re: [Audyssey] Acefire price

2008-02-16 Thread Andy Smith
Exactly. Have fun trying and trying to get the syntax correct. It's not just
slapping a
bunch of commands together, books I read define this as programming:
A list of commands to get a computer to do something

This is not correct. Things have to be placed in a specific order so it all
makes sense.
And an error we get all the time in vb 6: end without if or whatever. Things
have to be typed
exactly, if you forget, for example to put
end if
at the end of a check then... This is off topic, all I mean is, that it's
difficult, it's
Mr. Sadler's first game, so, cut him some slack guys!

Yeah. Just listen to that music it's unbelievable! You really have to think
things over Nicol before
you post. Try getting a vb editor, some vb libraries, and the actual software;
make
software, spend hours debugging, testing, etc.

Then spend hundreds of dollars on sounds and music. Plus the registration
library set
Damien around 30 bucks.

So just try that. Are your brains coming out your ears yet?

If you do not like it, do not buy it. Simple as that.

Hi,
I do get your point about the monopoly game Nicol, but a monopoly game isn't
as hard as ace fire, it make not seem that way, but I can guarantee it.
ACEFire uses multi-player support, which is difficult, and like I said, all
those libraries and sounds, cost money, and Jims monopoly, which is still
very good, does not necessarily have all of those..you still of course have
all of your opinions, and this is mine.

Re: [Audyssey] Acefire price

2008-02-16 Thread nicol
The bottom line is: jim's monopoly game has much more randomizing.
I played numerous games and its interesting how many times I beat the
computer.
And its also interesting how many times me or the computer land on free
parking.
Its a lot more randomizing than ace fire and he doesn't charge for it.
Or what do you say, jim?
Or take the last crusade. It also has a lot more randomizing than ace fire.
And yet its free.
If it was a brilliant fps game being released yes then its unreasonable to
complain about its price, but this game is only turn based dice throwing
against the computer, that's all it is.
This! Is! A! total! Rip!off!
Daylight!robbery!

Hey, william never asked for hunter, pipe2, shades of doom, tank commander,
super deek out to be free.
A simple randomizing game should be free.
He is not asking for everything on a silver platter.
Ace fire is far from a fps or rpg game.

For god's sake! If you're not happy with the price, don't buy it! Quit
crying to all of us how everything should be free, everything should be
handed to us on a silver platter, totally free, just because we're blind. We
can't see, so don't make us pay, is the general idea i'm getting from all
your messages, either that or you're just saying "Screw AceFire, we don't
like it". If this is the case, then take it off list, take it up with the
developer of AceFire. Make your own audio game, put a price on it and see
how many orders you get!

Hi,
Have some decency people! All those features COST MONEY, the MUSIC COSTS
MONEY, you are entitled to your opinion, but I am asking to keep it to
yourself, but I can't take any action so... try writing over 20 thousand
lines of code, paying loads of money for libraries, and everything else, it
costs, alot. No ones forcing you to buy it, so don't. If you can't do
something much better, you are in no position to complain, I am entitled to
my opinion like everyone else.

OK. Let's get one thing straight here. Forget about the prices for a sec,
forget even Acefire. Let's talk X-Sight in general.
Right. What about Acefire preorders? Everybody messes up! I was being
bombarded with comments, advice and suggestions. Confusions is one of the
worst things to have to deal with as a beginner developer. As for
LightTech's free games, that's their decision to make it free, just like
it's my decision to charge for Acefire.
If you saw just how much testing this thing has been through, how much money
I've spent on it, how stressed out I got, not only from this but from all
other activity in my life, people nagging and pressurising me not just for
new features, this and that, but for personal issues as well, if I wasn't on
such a limited budget, if this didn't have to come out of my own money, for
your information, I could be thrown out of college because of my outside
activities. Not that it probably matters to you all who buy and play or use,
but to a developer, it's a lot of hard work. That code is 667kb in size,
21512 lines, and in my honest opinion I feel that your message was rather
rude on the subject of mistakes, messups and high prices.
I'm sorry Cory, but I think you need to sit down and try and develop a game
or piece of software and tell me then what it feels like as a first-timer.
All I can say is, for what Acefire is right now, and for what Dectalk
Scripter and Talking Timepiece will be in the future, I've bent over
backwards to add features that people are constantly requesting, and I said
that there's more to come in 2.0. I've got about forty different projects
I'm attempting to work on at once. When I'm working on Acefire, I've got
somebody contacting me about Danger City. When I work on Chopper Challenge,
I get someone contact me about Acefire. When I finally get to work on Danger
City, someone else will come along and ask about Dectalk Scripter.
No program is ever fully completed as we all know. Programs and games are
constantly getting updated, and I've developed for free for so long now,
buying custom made libraries, off-the-shelf libraries, sounds, music, and am
sick of getting nothing back for it. That's how devs get broke. I can't even
live, because I'm constantly working for X-Sight. I'm constantly roaming the
country staying at friend's house and eating their food.
I won't mention any names, but there's three people in particular who
encouraged me to sell this game, one of them himself being a developer. Now
I get a price/game release rebellion. I was told and advised to knock the
price down. I knocked the price down, making the pay very low for me.
If you'd rather I finished it there, developed for myself instead, I could
easily flush the whole lot down the toilet, take down the whole site, and
easily spend as much money as I've spent on X-Sight over the past two years
on a decent Yamaha Tyros II keyboard while still being able to buy my own
food and arrange to move over to the states to live and spend time with my
girlfriend.
I'm sorry if this message appears harsh, but I feel you ought to know the
long and short of it.
Thanks.
Regards,
Damien

Damion is totally unreasonable.
Why do we have to pay for ace fire?
Why?why? why?
Ace fire doesn't have that much features.
It should be free
It should be free
It should be free.
Jim's monopoly game have more randomizing than ace fire and its free.
It should be free
It should be free

Re: [Audyssey] Acefire price

2008-02-15 Thread Cory
that darn thing should be free. Bet lite tech has spent more time
programming there free games then you did. I'm sorry, but it's most likely
true. Plus, you have had so many screw ups. Like the hole ready for preorder
and stuff. That broke. In my respectful openyan, it may come across the
wrong way, wich I know it is, but it's just not worth paying for. Sorry, but
that's how I feel.

Rock,

Cory
