Re: [Audyssey] LW sound packs?

2008-03-08 Thread Dark
Indeed yes Tom, I'd love a single starship commanding game, in fact I'd
personally rather go for that than the real time stfc as well (especially if
it was possible to have user created missions as in lw).

Obviously, even if you replaced all the lw sounds with trek ones, the game
would stil not exactly be a trek game because of the game's output to you,
and the game features specific to submarine combat, such as depth charges,
surfacing, balast etc. to take a basic example, even if you replaced the
deazel sub engine sound with a warp engine, you'd stil have your speed
reported in nots, and stil get messages about deazel fuel etc.

i just wondered if it might be possible to both cut down the work for you,
and take advantage of lw's great features, such as the mission parza
and detailed movement and targiting mechanics to create a trek game, but
somehow also rewrite the bits of gameplay that wouldn't fit on a starship,
as well as obviously modding all the sounds.

As I said though, I'd expect monkeying about with David greenwood's code
goes against copywrite, even if it would be easier than writing the game
yourself from scratch.

Beware the Grue!

2008-03-06 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Folks,
There was a space in that file name which the internet does not like so I
renamed it to
http://www.pcsgames.net/lw-sounds.zip
I know it is not the best pack and not complete,
I sent David some better sounds for the next version of
Lone Wolf.
But please don't ask when it will be out.
Phil

Hi,
STFC is a turn based strategy game where you get to command a fleet of 5
Federation starships against Klingons, Romulans, Cardassian, and Borg ships.
A more detailed description can be found at

Re: [Audyssey] LW sound packs?

2008-03-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,
I Could probably mod Lonewolf to sound quite a bit like a Star Trek
game, but there still would be some elements that would not fit well
into that theme.
Perhaps when MOTA and Raceway are no longer an issue perhaps I can write
a Lonewolf style Trek game where you command one ship carrying out
missions. Now, that would be actually cooler in some ways than a RTS
version of Final Conflict.

Re: [Audyssey] LW sound packs?

2008-03-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,
Absolutely correct. STFC is TNG era, specifically the time period
between First Contact and Inserection, and Trek 2K is TOS era.
However, while Trek 2000 is original series the sounds are not really
authentic. Some sounds have been taken from TNG which makes it sound a
bit weird. Especially, the bridge sounds which aren't anything like the
TOS bridge.

Hi Shaun,
I hate to burst your bubble but you are way off track. STFC is not,
never was, an original series Trek game. STFC takes place sometime after
First Contact, and before Inserection. Ever notice the Enterprise is NCC
1701-E, the Sovereign-Class version, as seen in Star Trek 8, 9, and 10?
All of the sound effects to my knolege are all from the appropriate time
period in question. Sheesh.

game from Gma games.

2008-03-05 Thread Dark
Well, as I said, I'm not half as familiar with tos myself, and if indeed
Trek 2000 has the wrong sfx, feel free to put together a sound pack for
it, and maybe tom would host it.

As I said though, sinse stfc is the tng ds9 era, not tos, I'm fairly certain
the effects there are correct.

Beware the Grue!

no I don't think they are, at least some of em are not.
I have proper tos sfx for some of the stuff.
The bridge is all tng, and I am sure there were not computers that sounded like
they do in t2k, also the voices for the computers in t2k are all wrong, they
are not robotic enough.
The controls are not what they should be the warp is not what they should be, I
don't have a self destruct for t2k but I don't think the selfdestruct is the
same.
I know quite well the klingon torps are not exactly t2k, I have simular torps,
unfortunately not tos but closer to the truth.
neither is the romulan disrupter.
the same error is in stfc but I havn't bothered to attempt a fix.
I know the federation phasers and torps on the ships are all wrong and not tos
and I have those.

Hmmm, if by tos you mean the original series, I very much got the idea that
stfc was deffinately next gen.

It includes many things from the next gen era, the cardassians, Ds9, the
deffiant, the borg, quantum torpedos etc, and thus I believe the sounds are
dead on for that.

Trek 2000 is most deffinately original series however I think, sinse it
includes the planet killer and the tholians, both of which appeared in
original series episodes, and again, the sounds are I think correct for that
era (though I don't know original trek as well as I know next gen so I might
be wrong here).

Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] LW sound packs?

2008-03-05 Thread Dark
well tom, it sounds great, I'll look forward to playing with it,
there's even a chance it might improve my fairly abysmal Lw playing, ---
though admittedly not much of one ;D.

Will you also be hosting the lw missions beyond 92 as well?

though as I said, thus far the furthest I've got is mission 5, while I
really enjoy Lw, I'm deffinately very pants at it, ;D.

thinking about the trek soundpack, it's a shame that lw could not be fully
modded into a trek game commanding a single starship, with different output
text, eg star bases instead of supply ships and phasers instead of a depth
gun, and some slightly altered mechanics, - Eg replacing the depth and
surfacing elements with ascending/descending, allowing fulll vertical
movement, and adding a percentage of ship shields which needed to be
depleated before systems started taking damage (thus giving the game more of
a focus on head on combat, and less of stealth).

with the ability to create missions and objects using the parza, imho this
would be fantastic!

But I suppose even if this was practically doable and would be less trouble
than writing the hole game from scratch, there's a big copywrite issue with
David greenwood to be considdered.

Appologies for the random ideas and wranting, my rewatch of next gen stil
continues thus I have trek on my mind at the moment.

Beware the crew!

Dark.

well no offence but the usagames pack is better than the pcs games pack.
would be good if there was a theme song though.
speaking on packs, I plan to rewrite the stfc sounds.
My reason is that they are not the actual sfx for the era, these things really
need to sound like the tos error.
I can probably dredge better sfx for the thing, I mean its basically tos.

well if you need someone to test stuff and put sounds into packs and such, I
probably can do that and take that work off your hands, I'd need somewhere to
upload everything but its not like I have anything to do at the current time
and you have more important things to do than to fiddle around with sound packs

Re: [Audyssey] LW sound packs?

2008-03-05 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Folks,
I put up my sound pack for Lone Wolf at,
http://www.pcsgames.net/lw sounds.zip

It is 6.2 mb
There are two versions of the theme song,
One overwrites the one that came with the game,
it is named lwsng.wav
the other can be use by renaming the two files to each other's name,
it is named lwsng0.wav
Along with the theme song there are 5 other lw sounds in the pack.
You should listen to them before adding them to the game to find out if you
like them better than the originals.
Phil
