Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen passes away
Another latecomer to the news, and one more post confirming that Jim was a good dude. Only spoke to him on the phone once, but once was enough to confirm that the kind natured, quick witted Jim that was conveyed through the keyboard was indeed the IRL Jim. I hope that one of these nights a Kitchen kid from the future will be tinkering with whatever cool UI they use to access the wayback archive at that point in time, and that they'll discover what Jim contributed to this community. I have only just gotten back to this list after several days and am seeing this for the first time. My deepest condolences to Jim’s family. Jim has not only been a tremendous inspiration to blind game developers but has also given so very much enjoyment to this community with all that he has done. His were the first games I was introduced to, after losing my sight. So I view him as one of the real trail-blazers for our community. So thank you Jim! I wish you well… -And to your family, please know that you are in my heart and thoughts. Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen passes away:
Hello everyone. I think www.kaldobsky.com/audiogames/jimkitchen is a good idea to host these games. Because Jeremy kaldobsky knows the technique of his programming. also the point is Mr joshua should allow this. another main issue is the audyssey babble report. so Mr thomas ward should you allow me that I will write down a letter to rijul Bakshi for requesting a custom e-mail programme. also can you tell me what should you want to be implimented in this. I will write him if you allow on behalf of all the audyssey team. Maybe it will help. Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen passes away:
Hi Shaun, That hardly seems necessary, but you can do whatever you think is right. I have a feeling Jeremy is correct when he said there is no danger of Jim's games becoming unavailable because very quickly there will be 40 different sites where one can download his stuff from because everyone seems to have the same idea and is sharing them on Dropbox, Sendspace, and on private sites. While that is not a bad idea in of itself I do have some reservation about no organization or central control over the games and that means people will only offer what they want to offer and may leave out whatever they feel is not necessary or change things without the others knowing about it. well slj has one on the forum, aprone has one kitchen.caldobsky.com So well hmmm. To be honest my archive is just for me, I may even take it down slj's one is more complete than mine is but at the same time its the games. I may actually post a dos only version of the archive with the dosbox talking distro though to be honest there are 3 archives up, mine sljs on temperary dropbox and aprones and the actual site which is up aprone has a complete website mirror. archive.org has a few sites you know it may be worth having someone shove all his stuff to archive.org ofcause it would be public domain at that point but whatever maybe and then link a url shortener to it. TO be honest though new mirrors are all over the place. And with all of that eventually I may just take mine down at some point. it will be good if everyone has mirrors but to be honest once enough have mirrors I may pull mine down its ok for what it is but my connection and data cap is quite tiny. Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen passes away:
Yahtzee was absolutely fine last I checked. Multiple hosting will be a good thing, but I actually like the idea of preserving Jim's own descriptions of the games on his website as well as just the files themselvves just for continuity if nothing else sinse as far as I'm aware, updates aside Jim's site has pretty much been the same for at least the last 10 years, possibly even more, and it'd be nice for future players of Jim's games to sort of still get them from his shop as it were. When hosting is worked out I'll also change the various links on the audiogames.net database, a task I confess I'm not looking forward to given how extensive Jim's game collection is :D. I didn't realize anyone else had volunteered to do so, so hopefully I'm not pushing anyone over by doing this. I suppose it can only be a good thing to have Jim's audiogames legacy hosted in a few places, just in case.I noticed that all but 1 of his GMHA board meeting recordings is missing. His Yahtzee game, winyaht2.exe keeps getting flagged by my Avast antivirus. Can anyone confirm this, or is it just a false positive? I want to be 100% sure it is safe before I go hosting it on my own site. Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen passes away
Please keep in mind that different phrases are taken differently in different parts of the world. I am 100% positive Charles meant only positive things by what he said, so we should focus on that more than our own interpretation of the sentence. It is similar to how some people will wish to celebrate when someone dies, while others want to mourn. It is more important to focus on the intent, rather than on the words. > Why would you say your appologies don't go out to them when this is a sad > time in their lives? > > follow me on twitter @joshknnd1982 > > On 8/7/2015 3:13 PM, Charles Rivard wrote: >> My apologies don't go out to them, but my prayers and support do. Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen passes away
I'd also like to offer my condolences. I'm quite sorry to hear this news, and know we'll all miss Jim; his sense of humor, entertaining games and audyssey babble reports. Rest in peace Jim. -- From: "christopher hallsworth" Sent: Friday, August 07, 2015 14:45 To: Subject: Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen passes away May I pass on my sincere apologies for the passing of Mr Kitchen.
