2015-08-11 Thread Scott Chesworth
Another latecomer to the news, and one more post confirming that Jim
was a good dude. Only spoke to him on the phone once, but once was
enough to confirm that the kind natured, quick witted Jim that was
conveyed through the keyboard was indeed the IRL Jim. I hope that one
of these nights a Kitchen kid from the future will be tinkering with
whatever cool UI they use to access the wayback archive at that point
in time, and that they'll discover what Jim contributed to this
community.

Sad times...

2015-08-11 Thread Cara Quinn
I have only just gotten back to this list after several days and am seeing this
for the first time.

My deepest condolences to Jim’s family. Jim has not only been a tremendous
inspiration to blind game developers but has also given so very much enjoyment
to this community with all that he has done.

His were the first games I was introduced to, after losing my sight. So I view
him as one of the real trail-blazers for our community.

So thank you Jim! I wish you well…

-And to your family, please know that you are in my heart and thoughts.

Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen passes away:

2015-08-11 Thread ishan dhami
Hello everyone.
I think www.kaldobsky.com/audiogames/jimkitchen is a good idea to host
these games.
Because Jeremy kaldobsky knows the technique of his programming.
also the point is Mr joshua should allow this.
another main issue is the audyssey babble report.
so Mr thomas ward should you allow me that I will write down a letter
to rijul Bakshi for requesting a custom e-mail programme.
also can you tell me what should you want to be implimented in this.
I will write him if you allow on behalf of all the audyssey team.
Maybe it will help.
Thanks
Ishan

The reason that a newer installer is wanted is that the old files do not
rock. Look at your lack of punctuation and how it changes what I think you
meant. The old files do not rock.

Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen passes away:

2015-08-09 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shaun,

That hardly seems necessary, but you can do whatever you think is
right. I have a feeling Jeremy is correct when he said there is no
danger of Jim's games becoming unavailable because very quickly there
will be 40 different sites where one can download his stuff from
because everyone seems to have the same idea and is sharing them on
Dropbox, Sendspace, and on private sites. While that is not a bad idea
in of itself I do have some reservation about no organization or
central control over the games and that means people will only offer
what they want to offer and may leave out whatever they feel is not
necessary or change things without the others knowing about it.

Bryan Smart is the one making the installer. I'm not sure how he is
going to do it, but i have sampled other projects he has done and he's
good at doing stuff like this. That being said I'm sure he will give
the user the choice as to what games are installed. I'll let you all

Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen passes away:

2015-08-09 Thread Shaun Everiss

well slj has one on the forum, aprone has one kitchen.caldobsky.com
So well hmmm.
To be honest my archive is just for me, I may even take it down slj's
one is more complete than mine is but at the same time its the games.
I may actually post a dos only version of the archive with the dosbox
talking distro though to be honest there are 3 archives up, mine sljs on
temperary dropbox and aprones and the actual site which is up aprone has
a complete website mirror.
archive.org has a few sites you know it may be worth having someone
shove all his stuff to archive.org ofcause it would be public domain at
that point but whatever maybe and then link a url shortener to it.

TO be honest though new mirrors are all over the place.
And with all of that eventually I may just take mine down at some point.
it will be good if everyone has mirrors but to be honest once enough
have mirrors I may pull mine down its ok for what it is but my
connection and data cap is quite tiny.

Hi,

Yes. Yatzi is fine. I have it on my system and all virus scans say the
file is clean. So I think it is a false positive that Aprone's scan
thought it might be a virus.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen passes away:

2015-08-08 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Aprone,

The way I see it the more people who can share the files the better.
While I also intend to mirror his site and games I would like to
perhaps repackage them and give them better Windows installers. While
the method he uses is functional it doesn't really cut it for today's
computing environment now that 64 bit Windows uses the Program Files
(x86) folder rather than the older Program Files folder and that just
confuses people to no end. So a new installer that would pick the
correct one would be an improvement, and I would like to repackage the
games to have a more updated installer. So perhaps we can work on
something like that besides just mirroring them as is.

Also I heard you live three hours away from Chardon, and if you can it
would be nice to have another VB 6 dev take control of his source.
While I could probably do it I am pretty busy and have a lot on my
plate and wouldn't be up to taking on that many games any time soon.
Plus while I know VB 6 it has never been my forte anyway.

Cheers!

Unfortunately, there is no information available on what took Jim's

young, and much too soon.

Yahtzee was absolutely fine last I checked.
Multiple hosting will be a good thing, but I actually like the idea of

just the files themselvves just for continuity if nothing else sinse as far
as I'm aware, updates aside Jim's site has pretty much been the same for at

When hosting is worked out I'll also change the various links on the

Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen passes away

2015-08-08 Thread loriduncan

Hi, this is very sad news indeed, my heart goes out to his family.

Does anyone know what was wrong with him, had he been ill? He didn't sound
very old at all.

From Lori.

No no, you misconstrued my message. I was agreeing with you about no need to
apologize for something.

Reread my first message. I will send prayers for the family, and they do
have my support. There is no need for me giving an expression of remorse or
regret for having said or done something that harmed another. That would be
an apology.

Please keep in mind that different phrases are taken differently in different
parts of the world.  I am 100% positive Charles meant only positive things by
what he said, so we should focus on that more than our own interpretation of
the sentence. It is similar to how some people will wish to celebrate when
someone dies, while others want to mourn.  It is more important to focus on the
intent, rather than on the words.
