That's the way I remember it, too, but I'm older than all of you, so don't put

  Cee,

My memory is the same as Wanda's. (Sorry Wanda, we may both be slipping!)
As I recall, Stoops tuned Florida down when SOS resigned. He did it again when
Zook was invited to pursue other coaching opportunities.

Um...I'm not understanding how it could be VERY difficult to root
against Stoops when, first and foremost, he's playing the Gators for a MNC, and
secondly, he's dissed the head coaching job at UF TWICE!!! I still have a soft
spot for him as he did play a major part in our very first MNC, but I really
have no problem rooting against Stoopsie in this game!!!

Okie deserves to be ranked higher... and Im not just saying that
because I
picked Boomer Sooner to go all the way (and I still think they can)
their only loss... was to the team that was ranked 5th in the country
at the
time. They have been blowing people outta the water ever since.

Now I have a soft spot in my heart for Okie because well.. Stoops is
there..
and I still sorta kinda have a place in my heart that wishes he hadnt
said
no to UF. I dont have any regrets that we ended up with Meyer later...
I
just hate that he said no... which would normally make me have bad
feelings
about him... but I cant.. he's happy where he is.

ANYWAY... Okie deserves to be ranked higher. And they still have a shot
at
the NC if they can get past TexTech, OkSt ad.. dont forget they
also
have a Conference game too... which will probably be Mizzou Im
guessing. Of
course TexTech and OkSt have to faulter... but I still think Okie will
take
the Big12.

Personally... I would LOVE a UF vs Okie matchup.

That is exactly the same recollection that I have. As a matter of fact after
the Zook situation, Stoops held a press conference in OK to turn down any

When naming a dog, don't use a name with an 'o' sound on the end. Sounds
too much like no. Makes it more difficult to train. The general suggestion
is to use a name with an e sound, so Timmy or Percy would work. Two Bits is
good, you will end up shortening it to TBit, or Bits anyway.

Good luck!

Shipman learns from father's experience

By Kevin Brockway mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Gainesville Sun sports writer

When freshman Ray Shipman showed his family his 4.0 grade-point average
from his summer semester at Florida, his dad was initially curious.

Why, dad wondered, did Shipman's grades slip from the 4.7 he received in
his senior year at Mirimar High School.

I had to explain to him the grades weren't weighted, Shipman said.

Importance: Low

When naming a dog, don't use a name with an 'o' sound on the end. Sounds
too much like no. Makes it more difficult to train. The general
suggestion is to use a name with an e sound, so Timmy or Percy would work.
Two Bits is good, you will end up shortening it to TBit, or Bits anyway.

Good luck!

Quick Robert Marve update

Posted by Shandel Richardson at 7:46:34 PM

Here's what we've learned so far:

Quarterback Robert Marve has not been suspended ... yet. If it does happen,
it will most likely be for academic-related issues. Grades aren't released
until next Wednesday. So if there's suspension news on Marve or any other UM
player, this will be the day. Until then, expect him and the rest of the
team at practice on Saturday.

Stay tuned ...

As for the Marve transfer rumors, he hasn't requested or approached anyone
about anything. Does that mean the process isn't in motion? Not at all.
There have probably been some feelers sent out.

But for right now, he's a quarterback at the University of Miami.

Again, stay tuned ...

See you folks tomorrow. Tuesday is my night for late-night hoops with some
other members of the media.

Well here is the other thing.. How many other staff members MAY go with Mullen

familiar with.

Good luck!

[gatortalk] Re: FW: [gatornews] Grading the Gators vs Alabama (SEC Championship)

2008-12-10 Thread Kelly Tom

I'm with Scott. Slightly more 'Bama fans to start, but when all that
crimson bled away in the Fourth Qtr it revealed a lot of Gators mixed
in with them too. It was truly a monumental Florida victory. I was
sitting up high in the section next to where the Alabama sections
started (at about the 50 yard line) and I thought our fans were more
into the game. It was a roller coaster for sure and kind of
depressing after the Third Quarter until I saw Timmy T. go literally
crashing into the special teams huddle to get them pumped. Then he
led that magnificent come back in the Fourth. Wow! What a game! I
hope the BCS CG is easier on our nerves.
Go Gators!

 FINAL THOUGHTS

Tim Tebow's performance on Saturday night was worthy
 of a Heisman
Trophy. I doubt he wins his second but I think he
 should. The Gators
offensive line has lived up to the preseason hype.
 Nice to see David
Nelson's contributions, he is coming on strong.
 This ones for the
girls, who's cuter Tebow or Riley Cooper? Guess we
 will find out
January 8th who has the better Heisman Trophy
 winning quarterback and
defense. I look forward to the challenge. Congrats
 and GO GATORS!

game was played - I think the comparison there is pretty obvious.

I hope that they also end there.

I recall another offensive coordinator that was hired as a head coach right
before his team played Oklahoma in Miami, for the BCS title.

His team lost 13-2, their only score coming on a safety.

I hope Mullen prepares us better than that...

It's the smart move. Tessio was always smarter.

 Whoops. Inappropriate Godfather reference.

Actually, I don't think it's all that smart a move. Hell, Mississippi
 State
can't even recruit their own state well. They have to compete against Ole
Miss, now with Houston Nutt, as well as a lot of out-of-state programs.
Mississippi State is probably the last choice of a lot of in-state
 athletes.

The person who I actually thought handled this type of move well was
 Stoops.
IIRC, the year before he went to Oklahoma, he was courted by his alma
 mater,
Iowa, but decided to spend another year at UF, and wait for a better
opportunity. He didn't think the Iowa people were prepared to spend the
resources needed to develop a winning program.

 I'd say he did well.

Now, we need to beat his brains out.

Subject: [gatortalk] Early take on the Game

Okay, we have a month of talking heads either praising us to high heaven or
bashing us to levels never seen before. So I wanted to put my .02c in
early.

I have heard a lot of talk about how Florida has to be concerned about being
overconfident - the 2006 OSU syndrome if you will. Early on, it seems to be
the conventional wisdom that everyone will pick the Gators as Timmy has
promised to bring us to the promised land and OU won't know what hit them
after seeing an SEC caliber defense.

As the weeks play out, I think you will start to see a split as people begin
to realize this is going to be a close match. The big question is who will
prevail, the high flying OU offense or the hard hitting UF defense.

Here is the way I look at this game, from the time OU played Texas, they
have averaged 57 points per game and have given up, 31 points per game. UF
on the otherhand has scored an average of 43 points per game and surrendered
15 to the opponents since the Ol Miss game. So looking at it very
conservatively through the stretch that each team has been 'hot', it
wouldn't be a bold prediction to think that UF could hold OU to one less TD
per game and it wouldn't be bold to predict UF could score 1 more TD on OU
than average, essentially making a tie.

The argument from our side is that we have played against tough SEC
defenses, while the argument from the OU side is that the D is tough because
the offenses in the SEC suck. The defenses we played rank on average 42nd in
scoring defense and 28th in yards allowed. OU has faced defenses with
average ranking of 72 and 78 respectively. The offenses we faced have an
average ranking of 63 and OU has faced the average offense ranking of 33.
If you break it down to just the out of conference games and eliminate the
conference altogether you get - UF has faced offenses ranked 27, 47 and 68
for an average of 47, OU has faced OoC offenses ranked 20, 51 118 for an
average of 63. UF has faced OoC Defenses ranked 32, 56 and 72 for an
average 53, and OU has faced defenses ranked 2, 26 117 for an average 48.
Against OoC opponents UF's average score is 49-12, and OUs average score is
50-13. Pretty darn close! (And BTW, I eliminated the Citadel and
Chattanooga from the calcs)

The average defense ranking in the SEC is 38, the average in the Big12 is
80. The average offense in the SEC is ranked 70th and the Big 12 is 31st.
For what it's worth, UF had an easier conference schedule than OU in that UF
faced opponents with a lower than average offense ranking and a lower than
average defense ranking, OU in the B12 was the opposite.

For all the Offense and Defense rankings, I looked at scoring offense and
points scored against for defense unless otherwise noted.

Not sure what all this means yet, other than I don't think either team has a
great case to make that says we are so superior. I think this game will
come down to tackling. I have watched about 5 OU games this year and much
of their yardage comes from missed tackles. If we can make those plays and
keep them to 5-10 yard gains and make them drive the field, we will a) force
some turnovers, b) minimize their posessions and c)either stop some of their
drives or hold them to field goals. I think their D is good enough to keep
us in check, but not totally stop us and can see a score in the 35-28 range.
Hoping it is the good guys on the high end...

I think its certainly an x-factor in the back of Timmy's mind for sure. I
hate to even suggest it.. but if we have a total outside that Tebow is not
familiar with (and vice versa).. and we know with pretty good certainty
that Brantley is the next guy in line... it may work out to UF's benefit
for Brantley to have a couple of years under the same guy.

Not saying I WANT that to happen.. I would LOVE Tebow to come back... but
for the most part.. wouldnt he have to start all over again with a new OC?
I dont see him wanting to go through that. If its a insider thats promoted
(i think perhaps unlikely)... he would probably stay...

see him wanting to go through that. If its a insider thats promoted (i think

That is exactly the same recollection that I have. As a matter of fact after
the Zook situation, Stoops held a press conference in OK to turn down any
overtures from UF for the HBC position

Unfortunately I gotta disagree with you there Badman.

Okie deserves to be ranked higher... and Im not just saying that
because I
picked Boomer Sooner to go all the way (and I still think they
can)
their only loss... was to the team that was ranked 5th in the country
at the
time. They have been blowing people outta the water ever since.

Now I have a soft spot in my heart for Okie because well.. Stoops is
there..
and I still sorta kinda have a place in my heart that wishes he hadnt
said
no to UF. I dont have any regrets that we ended up with Meyer
later... I
just hate that he said no... which would normally make me have bad
feelings
about him... but I cant.. he's happy where he is.

ANYWAY... Okie deserves to be ranked higher. And they still have a
shot at
the NC if they can get past TexTech, OkSt ad.. dont forget they
also
have a Conference game too... which will probably be Mizzou Im
guessing. Of
course TexTech and OkSt have to faulter... but I still think Okie
will take
  the Big12.

Personally... I would LOVE a UF vs Okie matchup.

I actually have some mixed feelings on him staying until after the game. I
am not sure that I would give him that opportunity. If he stays, assuming
that he is human like the rest of us, he will be time-sharing at best. He
has to pack, move, and more importantly for him and Mississippi State, he
has to recruit! There are not enough hours in a day for him to do these
things, much less for him to game plan. Urban doesn't need distractions.

While I suspect we will hire a certain former QB to come in to be a QB
coach, it might be a good opportunity go after a good former NFL QB who
might want to get into coaching.

As long as Meyer is the head coach, any OC that comes in would most likely have
to be capable of running Coach Meyer's offense. Therefore, TT or any other QB
would not have to deal with much change other than the personality of the new
OC.

perhaps unlikely)... he would probably stay...

Tebow and Mullen are very tight. This might work against us and push Tebow

   to the NFL.

   Thoughts?

Rumors are floating are around that O'leary will be fired at UCF and

Strong

is the favorite to replace him. If true I expect McCarney to be named DC.

McCarney has been looking around also as he interviewed at New Mexico.
