Actually, many of those were PRE-THFGT, and was one of the reasons for the
creation of a special list just for duking it out. The big meltdown between

I did, and the only comment came from a Texas fan. He believes we'll be
playing them in Pasadena, so he smiled broadly and said we're still #1 #2!.
All the Tenn fans either dropped their eyes or looked away, but a few of them
growled. Our pastor is a rabid vol, and when they win, he always mentions it in
his sermon. The absence of a vol remark left a void today. You could tell he
was very conscious about avoiding it. :)

On a lighter note, my daughter's boyfriend has become scarce. :)

Vols vs. UCLA: Loss called 'embarrassing'Kiffin takes the blame for inept performanceCommentary by David Climer THE TENNESSEAN
KNOXVILLE — In his first nine months on the job, Lane Kiffin came off as (choose your description) brash, brazen, confident or cocky.
Maybe all of the above.
After Tennessee's season-opening blowout of Western Kentucky last weekend, Kiffin turned a bit smug.
Consider this, then, his official introduction to the current state of Vol Ball. On a number of given Saturdays this fall, the unofficial post-game meal will be Humble Pie.
Humility was served on this day at Neyland Stadium. After the Vols were throttled 19-15 by UCLA, a second-tier Pac-10 team, Kiffin looked and sounded like someone who now understands that the rebuilding of this program is going to require patience and resilience.
Kiffin acknowledged he "didn't do a very good job" of handling things with quarterback Jonathan Crompton. He said it was "my fault" for putting players like wideout Gerald Jones on the field in key situations despite a lack of practice time because of injury.
Kiffin needs to save some of that humility for later. The Vols play at Florida on Saturday. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
From what we saw out of Tennessee on Saturday, this is a team capable of putting up only token resistance at The Swamp. The Vols' offense had four turnovers and managed just 208 yards and one touchdown against UCLA.
Kiffin, who oversees the offense and calls the plays, termed the offensive performance "embarrassing."
Meanwhile, I don't know if you've heard about this or not, but Florida has made Sept. 19 an orange-letter day on its calendar. Shortly after his arrival at UT, Kiffin began taking verbal jabs at Gators Coach Urban Meyer. Some of Kiffin's more colorful comments have been plastered all over the Gators' practice facility.
After winning its first two games by a combined 118-9, top-ranked Florida appears ready to flex its muscles. Tennessee? Well, let's just say the Vols better be in survival mode.
"I'd say they'll probably be ready for us," UT defensive tackle Dan Williams said.
The UCLA game was a painful reminder that Tennessee is very much a work in progress. The opening rout of Western Kentucky was an illusion. The meltdown against the Bruins was a reality check.
"We've got a long way to go," said freshman wide receiver Marsalis Teague, who was held without a reception after catching six balls against Western Kentucky. "We've got to learn from this and move on."
Much work remains. The change of coaching staffs may have given a number of players fresh starts, but there still are some bad habits lingering from the 5-7 performance of last season.
Kiffin said he noticed some grousing and finger-pointing when he entered the locker room after the UCLA game. He intervened. Clearly, Kiffin understands that he must change the culture of this program.
"That's Coach Kiffin's job," Vols linebacker Nick Reveiz said. "He's going to point that out and correct our mistakes. I think we came together as a team."
Repairing the Vols' collective psyche is one thing. Fixing UT's on-field problems is another.
Let's face it: Tennessee is not going to beat teams of substance with this kind of quarterbacking from Jonathan Crompton. His numbers — 13-of-26 passing for just 93 yards, with three interceptions — were comparable to some of the low points of last season.
The interceptions came on three consecutive series. On the first, he overthrew an open receiver. On the second, he locked in on a receiver and failed to see the cornerback jumping the route. On the third, he threw late and off-target.
In short, Crompton reverted to last year's form. And that's not good for the Vols.
Asked if his struggles reminded him of '08, Crompton said: "I don't think about last year."
It remains to be seen if Crompton can pull himself out of this. If he can't, how long does Kiffin go with him?
As things turned sour against UCLA, Kiffin said he never considered benching Crompton in favor of junior Nick Stephens, who started six games last season.
But if things don't get better, all bets are off.
And this just in: It's not going to get better against Florida.

Yeah, I was one of those. I left Gatortalk during that time and didn’t come
back for a couple of years. Although I’ve never joined THFGT, I am more than
grateful that it was created to give an outlet for those who want it while
leaving Gatortalk as a group of friends who just want to talk about the Gators.
It is SO much better now, and I appreciate how the members themselves recognize
when something is approaching the line and suggest moving a topic to THFGT.

Bush Gore. The older archives (1999 and early 2000) were lost when Gator

LOL. Are those early days archived, Randy? It might be fun to go back

Some of the lesser known guys - one fumble and they are on the bench. Whereas more established players - like Tebow and Harvin - not that they make fumbles often - but when they do - it appears to not be noticed.

I don't think that Meyer treats all the players the same in regards to fumbles. Maybe - its - after X number of carries with no fumbles - Meyer overlooks a fumble.

That new RB - Gillislee(?) seems to be getting some reps - but with the 2 and 3 string OL. That has to be rough.

Vols vs. UCLA: Loss called 'embarrassing'

Kiffin takes the blame for inept performance

Commentary by David Climer  THE TENNESSEAN
KNOXVILLE— In his first nine months on the job, Lane Kiffin came off as
(choose your description) brash, brazen, confident or cocky.
Maybe all of the above.
After Tennessee's season-opening blowout of Western Kentucky last weekend,
Kiffin turned a bit smug.
Consider this, then, his official introduction to the current state of Vol
Ball. On a number of given Saturdays this fall, the unofficial post-game meal
will be Humble Pie.
Humility was served on this day at Neyland Stadium. After the Vols were
throttled 19-15 by UCLA, a second-tier Pac-10 team, Kiffin looked and sounded
like someone who now understands that the rebuilding of this program is going
to require patience and resilience.
Kiffin acknowledged he didn't do a very good job of handling things with
quarterback Jonathan Crompton. He said it was my fault for putting players
like wideout Gerald Jones on the field in key situations despite a lack of
practice time because of injury.
Kiffin needs to save some of that humility for later. The Vols play at Florida
on Saturday. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
From what we saw out of Tennessee on Saturday, this is a team capable of
putting up only token resistance at The Swamp. The Vols' offense had four
turnovers and managed just 208 yards and one touchdown against UCLA.
Kiffin, who oversees the offense and calls the plays, termed the offensive
performance embarrassing.
Meanwhile, I don't know if you've heard about this or not, but Florida has
made Sept. 19 an orange-letter day on its calendar. Shortly after his arrival
at UT, Kiffin began taking verbal jabs at Gators Coach Urban Meyer. Some of
Kiffin's more colorful comments have been plastered all over the Gators'
practice facility.
After winning its first two games by a combined 118-9, top-ranked Florida
appears ready to flex its muscles. Tennessee? Well, let's just say the Vols
better be in survival mode.
I'd say they'll probably be ready for us, UT defensive tackle Dan Williams
said.
The UCLA game was a painful reminder that Tennessee is very much a work in
progress. The opening rout of Western Kentucky was an illusion. The meltdown
against the Bruins was a reality check.
We've got a long way to go, said freshman wide receiver Marsalis Teague, who
was held without a reception after catching six balls against Western
Kentucky. We've got to learn from this and move on.
Much work remains. The change of coaching staffs may have given a number of
players fresh starts, but there still are some bad habits lingering from the
5-7 performance of last season.
Kiffin said he noticed some grousing and finger-pointing when he entered the
locker room after the UCLA game. He intervened. Clearly, Kiffin understands
that he must change the culture of this program.
That's Coach Kiffin's job, Vols linebacker Nick Reveiz said. He's going to
point that out and correct our mistakes. I think we came together as a team.
Repairing the Vols' collective psyche is one thing. Fixing UT's on-field
problems is another.
Let's face it: Tennessee is not going to beat teams of substance with this
kind of quarterbacking from Jonathan Crompton. His numbers — 13-of-26 passing
for just 93 yards, with three interceptions — were comparable to some of the
low points of last season.
The interceptions came on three consecutive series. On the first, he overthrew
an open receiver. On the second, he locked in on a receiver and failed to see
the cornerback jumping the route. On the third, he threw late and off-target.
In short, Crompton reverted to last year's form. And that's not good for the
Vols.
Asked if his struggles reminded him of '08, Crompton said: I don't think
about last year.
It remains to be seen if Crompton can pull himself out of this. If he can't,
how long does Kiffin go with him?
As things turned sour against UCLA, Kiffin said he never considered benching
Crompton in favor of junior Nick Stephens, who started six games last season.
But if things don't get better, all bets are off.
And this just in: It's not going

Brantley doesn't seem to show up among the national leaders for
passing efficiency (Tebow is #2).

His score should be pretty high; over 2 games he is 18 of 24, 3 TDs,
0 Ints and a yards per attempt above 10 (243 yards on 24 attempts).

Also, our team score is 193.8 and Tebow's score is 197.95, so I'd
have to guess that Brantley is around 190, which should put him about
5th overall, yet no listing.

At first, I thought that Brantley must not have had enough attempts,
but the national leader Ryan Mallett has only 22 attempts (and 17
completions), so that can't be the answer.

Anyone know Brantley's efficiency rating? Why he is not listed by the
NCAA?

Q: Coach, it looked like a situation where you tried to give it away

A: It's back to that old statement I made ? you don't win games, you
lose them. We tried to do everything we could last night to lose it -
and nearly did. But again, that's why if you're going to play a game
on Monday and try to follow it up with a game on Saturday, then you'd
better play somebody that you're superior to. You just hope you're
better and are going to win the game, because you're not likely to
execute well. You ain't got but two days to get ready. You've got two
days to practice. ? And then, if you are superior to somebody, what's
the best way to neutralize the game? Rain and mud. Now, that helps
neutralize right there. It takes away speed. It takes away some
things you're scared to do. I mean, down on your goal line - and we
were backed up a lot of times last night - then you have to be very
careful with what you do with the ball, because you're throwing a
sloppy ball around there. And if it gets intercepted, it's going to
be a touchdown. That's the way it went. I didn't know it, but Ann
said, You kept calling them Troy [in interviews after the game].
It's because I had Troy on my mind all week. I must have told my boys
about Troy last week ? there's no telling how many times. Because the
very same thing happened [in 2006] when we played Miami [on Monday]
and had to play Troy on a Saturday. We didn't pull that one out until
late either. It might have been the last few minutes like that before
we ever pulled it out. So anyway, I'm glad to get out of there with a
win.

From what I understand from Warchant posts, he confused Jax St with Troy on

repeated the mistake in the Sunday morning televised game highlight show.

Why he is not listed by the
 NCAA?

Some of the lesser known guys - one fumble and they are on the bench.
Whereas more established players - like Tebow and Harvin - not that they make
fumbles often - but when they do - it appears to not be noticed.

I don't think that Meyer treats all the players the same in regards to
fumbles.  Maybe - its - after X number of carries with no fumbles - Meyer
overlooks a fumble.

That new RB - Gillislee(?) seems to be getting some reps - but with the 2 and
3 string OL.  That has to be rough.

According to UF, Brantley's rating is 186.95, which would put him 6th
 nationally.

Well, when one door closes, another opens.

Frankly, I had been feeling a little bit sorry for Phil in recent years (only
after we beat them each year). Although he did recruit some criminals, he
seemed like a decent guy overall.
He certainly never signed a convicted rapist, like the current bum, or accused
our coach of cheating. Now this is a guy I really dislike, and we haven't even
played them yet.

Some of the lesser known guys - one fumble and they are on the bench.
Whereas more established players - like Tebow and Harvin - not that they
make fumbles often - but when they do - it appears to not be noticed.
I don't think that Meyer treats all the players the same in regards to
fumbles. Maybe - its - after X number of carries with no fumbles - Meyer
overlooks a fumble.
That new RB - Gillislee(?) seems to be getting some reps - but with the 2
and 3 string OL. That has to be rough.

Actually, many of those were PRE-THFGT, and was one of the reasons for the
creation of a special list just for duking it out. The big meltdown between
P,D and Jim Swofford occurred on Gatortalk in 2000 after I assumed the admin
duties and was forced to ban Jim. We lost quite a few subscribers who just got
tired of reading hate mail between them, and although P,D wasn't banned, he
left due to being chastised.

The archive goes back to Oct of 2000, and the discussion at that time was
Bush Gore. The older archives (1999 and early 2000) were lost when Gator

[gatortalk] Re: our seats this year

Dave says April or May... probably right after people start receiving their
tickets. The earlier ones go for more $$. The ones that show up at the end
of July to the middle of August go for much less, of course.

Have you bought your tickets that way alot? I was never sure that was

 not?

eBay. Our seats last year were fabulous... seatbacks in the north
 endzone,
section 326, 3-4 rows from the last row of seatbacks, surrounded
by enthusiastic, non-obnoxious Gators. The story from our eBay seller
 last
year was interesting. He and his wife were getting a divorce and couldn't
agree on who would get the tickets... so they were selling them and
splitting the proceeds. The people around us were nice enough, but they
seemed to be a bit resentful that the couple they had been sitting with
 for
 years wasn't there. Hmm.

I kept meaning to ask here if anyone was close to us, but I also kept
forgetting to do so. LOL. This year, I'm remembering to ask! :-)

Our tickets this year - from another wonderful eBay seller. His story is
that he's in Pennsylvania, has been battling an illness and isn't able to
make it to the games... but, of course, he doesn't want to lose his
 seats!

We're in the south endzone, section 53, row 81. We like the people around
us, and they've been pretty congenial to us so far. The only down side of
these seats is that the opponent's band is so close, they drown out the
Gator band. I was keenly aware of Troy's band's continued goal of playing
over the Pride of the Sunshine all day yesterday. I guess they were
 trying
to make up for the way the Gators were stomping the crap out of their
 football team. ;-)

Is anyone else close to that area?

 Cee

I missed that brouhaha. I was unsubbed for a while back then. That's weird...
I really thought I remembered THFGT being created while I was still at UNF, and
I left there in December 1999. And Frank, David Parker, Mike (Williamson,
maybe?), Steve (from Jax... what was his last name?) were all there.
