A Knoxville attorney has filed paperwork seeking to rename a local waste
water treatment plant in honor of Lane Kiffin. 

Drew McElroy paid $262 and filed an application with the Knoxville City
Council Public Properties and Facilities Naming Committee to rename the
Kuwahee Wastewater Treatment Plant as the Lane Kiffin Sewage Center. 

"It dawned on me -- Lane Kiffin told us that he hoped the fans would
understand. I thought, 'Well, naming the wastewater plant for him would let
him know, I think very clearly, we do understand,' " McElroy told WBIR-TV, a
local NBC affiliate. "We want to memorialize his stay here, and I think this
would be doing it appropriately." 

According to WBIR, McElroy wrote that he wanted "to honor our recently
departed head coach and raise awareness of the good work done by the
Knoxville Utilities Board." 

The committee hasn't set a date for its next meeting, but McElroy said he
intends to follow through.

agree with you.  Teachers today are far too regimented, controlled, test-bound 
and evaluated.  

As John Dewey would have said were he still alive, "What kind of society do you 
want?  That's the WAY you should teach.  Free and creative, or restrained and 
trained?"

All societies face this question...always.  That's why Socrates had to drink.

Larry Turner was Scott Camil's attorney well before the Gainesville Eight 
charges so he helped with the defense during the trial.  
 
I didn't appreciate it enough at the time, but I must have had the coolest 
Social Sciences teacher in the world when I was a senior at Gainesville HS.  
She invited Scott Camil and his girlfriend to come speak to our class about the 
VVAW and the anti-war effort.  And that was while the Vietnam war was still 
going on.  It was eye-opening..  I seriously doubt a teacher would be allowed 
to bring someone like Scott Camil into the classroom today, and that's too bad, 
IMO.

and three-time finalist may not be a top NFL pick, said ESPN draft analyst
Todd McShay, who gets questions about it all the time. It has to do with
Tebow's accuracy, how long it takes him to release the football, and the
system he played in at Florida, he said.

"It's hard to believe and hard to explain," said McShay, who tabs Tebow as a
third-round pick. "He has been the face of college football for the last 2
1/2 years."

 

Yeah, the reason they can't believe it is because you can't explain it.
Tebow has accuracy issues?  Really, the guy who set the all time NCAA pass
efficiency mark?  I agree his release time might be an issue, but I can
point to many QBs with quick releases who suck and many with slow releases
who are stars (Brett Favre, Steve Young anyone?)

 

McShay is a tool and has no credible experience other than having an
opinion.  But because he works for ESPN, his word is gospel and he is the
expert.  Bleeegh.

Bringing Florida quarterback Tim Tebow to New York for April's NFL draft
could spur higher television ratings, but Gil Brandt, who advises the NFL on
its invitations, won't say whether Tebow will be on the list.

That's because Brandt, former head of player personnel for the Dallas
Cowboys, never says who he's inviting, especially this early.

It has been the NFL's policy not to invite players who the league thinks
could be sweating it out in the green room for hours, let alone days. And
Tebow could very well sit well through the third round. Or he could be taken
high in the first, depending on which NFL Draft web site, analysts or agents
you go to for an answer.

The draft will be broadcast over three days this year, starting with the
first round in prime time Thursday, April 22, the second and third rounds in
prime time Friday and the fourth through seventh rounds during the day
Saturday. It will be broadcast on ESPN and NFL Network.

The NFL, which invited about 10 players last year, may invite even more this
year, said Jay Rothman, ESPN coordinating producer, who has overseen the
draft for that network since 1995.

"I have been in meetings with the NFL already, and there is a push to give
it more entertainment value," Rothman said. "We have had dialogue about
expanding the list of invitees to New York."

The question is whether players will come or their agents will advise them
not to go. Agents have told SportsBusiness Journal that they don't want
their clients there if they don't go in the top 10.

Tebow's agent, Jimmy Sexton, did not immediately respond to a call. In a
brief interview earlier last week, Sexton confirmed he had signed Tebow for
playing contract work. Tebow may select an additional agent for marketing.

Sexton, a top agent for NFL players and coaches for 25 years, indicated it
was one of the greatest career achievements for himself and his company,
Memphis-based Athletic Resource Management, to represent Tebow. "We think he
will go very high in the first round, when it is all said and done," Sexton
said.

Lane Kiffin was behind the wheel of his leased Lexus in August when, the coach 
said, he fell asleep and crashed the car, a high-ranking University of 
Tennessee official confirmed to ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach on Tuesday. 

 
Also, Kiffin told athletic director Mike Hamilton that he had been at the 
football complex for a late meeting that night and said that he was heading 
home when he got into the accident, according to the source. 

 
Kiffin walked home from the scene of the wreck, a high-ranking Tennessee source 
told ESPN's Dwayne Bray. 

 
Kiffin left Tennessee after only 14 months on the job to become coach at USC. 
An atmosphere of animosity in Knoxville has led to Internet and blog chatter 
about his actions during his time working for Tennessee. 

 
Hamilton interviewed Tennessee assistant football coaches to corroborate 
Kiffin's whereabouts that night, and one assistant confirmed having seen the 
coach in the athletic offices at approximately midnight. The accident occurred 
in the early morning hours. Tennessee officials said the time between Kiffin's 
last being seen in the offices and the crash was unaccounted for. The 
university did not pay for the repairs to the damaged car, according to the 
source. 

 
Earlier in the day, WVLT-TV in Knoxville reported that Andy White, an employee 
of a Lexus dealership in Knoxville, confirmed that a Lexus leased to Kiffin was 
involved in a one-car accident. 

 
White did not specify the date of the incident, where it happened or who was 
driving the vehicle, which was leased to Kiffin through the coach's vehicle 
program for Tennessee men's and women's athletic teams. 

 
White told the station: "The proper authorities were contacted and the vehicle 
was towed to our location. Coach Kiffin's insurance was contacted and promptly 
paid the claim." 

 
Knox County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Martha Dooley told the station there 
were no reports of any accident filed by Kiffin in 2009. Knoxville Police 
Department spokesperson Darrell DeBusk also told the station there were no 
reports of any accident filed by Kiffin in September or October. 

 
USC sports information director Tim Tessalone told ESPN's Shelley Smith on 
Tuesday that Kiffin would have no comment on the accident, that it's not a new 
story and that he addressed it with the media when it happened.

Lane Kiffin was behind the wheel of his leased Lexus in August when, the coach 
said, he fell asleep and crashed the car, a high-ranking University of 
Tennessee official confirmed to ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach on Tuesday..

Also, Kiffin told athletic director Mike Hamilton that he had been at the 
football complex for a late meeting that night and said that he was heading 
home when he got into the accident, according to the source.

Kiffin walked home from the scene of the wreck, a high-ranking Tennessee source 
told ESPN's Dwayne Bray.

Kiffin left Tennessee after only 14 months on the job to become coach at USC. 
An atmosphere of animosity in Knoxville has led to Internet and blog chatter 
about his actions during his time working for Tennessee.

Hamilton interviewed Tennessee assistant football coaches to corroborate 
Kiffin's whereabouts that night, and one assistant confirmed having seen the 
coach in the athletic offices at approximately midnight. The accident occurred 
in the early morning hours. Tennessee officials said the time between Kiffin's 
last being seen in the offices and the crash was unaccounted for. The 
university did not pay for the repairs to the damaged car, according to the 
source.

Earlier in the day, WVLT-TV in Knoxville reported that Andy White, an employee 
of a Lexus dealership in Knoxville, confirmed that a Lexus leased to Kiffin was 
involved in a one-car accident.

White did not specify the date of the incident, where it happened or who was 
driving the vehicle, which was leased to Kiffin through the coach's vehicle 
program for Tennessee men's and women's athletic teams.

White told the station: "The proper authorities were contacted and the vehicle 
was towed to our location. Coach Kiffin's insurance was contacted and promptly 
paid the claim."

Knox County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Martha Dooley told the station there 
were no reports of any accident filed by Kiffin in 2009. Knoxville Police 
Department spokesperson Darrell DeBusk also told the station there were no 
reports of any accident filed by Kiffin in September or October.

USC sports information director Tim Tessalone told ESPN's Shelley Smith on 
Tuesday that Kiffin would have no comment on the accident, that it's not a new 
story and that he addressed it with the media when it happened.

That's strange.  
 
The version/rumor I heard was something like - Kiffin was drunk and with some "coeds" that were not related to him.  Not sure what he was doing to cause him to crash?  Kiffin left the Lexus and coeds at the scene ...
 
There are so many stories about Kiffin and coaches drinking, coeds, love shacks, etc - hard to seperate fact from fiction.

My understanding is that TM means they are asserting that it's their trademark, 
but that it"s not yet officially theirs (or they would use the R symbol). If 
Randy wants to claim prior ownership of the mark, he must contact them to 
assert it now, and demand they stop using it. Otherwise, he will have to stop 
using it later. If he doesn't claim his ownership now, he won't be able to 
later. We have some lawyers here on Gatortalk, don't we? Have I got that more 
or less right?

My understanding is that TM means they are asserting that it's their trademark, 
but that it"s not yet officially theirs (or they would use the R symbol). If 
Randy wants to claim prior ownership of the mark, he must contact them to 
assert it now, and demand they stop using it. Otherwise, he will have to stop 
using it later. If he doesn't claim his ownership now, he won't be able to 
later. We have some lawyers here on Gatortalk, don't we? Have I got that more
