Re: [DISCUSS] Graduate Apache Paimon (Incubating) as a Top Level Project

2024-03-07 Thread Yu Li
Thanks all for the valuable feedback and suggestions.

IIUC, there are still some actions Paimon PPMC should take (such as
removing the "Founder of Paimon" description on the internet as much
as possible, which is actively in progress), but no blocker for
graduation.

Therefore, I plan to start the vote for graduation in a few hours, and
please let me know if there are any objections.

Thanks.

Best Regards,
Yu

We have added Incubation disclaimer to all pages including documentation.

Thanks, that looks better.

By the way, the Incubation disclaimer should have been present on all
pages (not just the main ones).
Probably too late for that now, but if graduation fails it should be fixed.

Also, there is no way back to the main page from the doc/ pages.
Not a blocker for graduation, but it does make the site harder to navigate.

Thanks sebb.

Learn a lot.
- tar link should use closer.lua.
- digest and pgp links must use downloads.apache.org

I have updated:

I've just noticed that the download page tar links are not correct after all.

They must use closer.lua, but they don't.

Hi sebb,

Thanks for your check.

I have updated the website: https://paimon.apache.org/downloads/
(You may need to refresh to see the latest page)

1. [done] the digest and pgp links must use downloads.apache.org
2. [done] information on how to use the digests.
3. [done] The download page should not link to GitHub commits; they
are not official releases.
4. [done] Releases that are no longer maintained should be removed
from downloads.a.o. They can still be linked from the archives.
5. [done] It should be obvious which release(s) are currently recommended

I will deny and explain as soon as possible, and I will inform the

2024-03-05 Thread Justin Mclean
HI,

In your discussion on graduation, you refer to the proposed chair as “the
founder of Paimon”. While this person may have come up with the initial design
before it was an Apache project, the project is run by the community. Please do
not refer to anyone as a founder of an Apache project. I have noticed this
language used in other places as well e.g. [1] Also stating an Apache project
is from a company e.g " from Ververica” [2] is not accurate, again the
community runs a project not a company. If possible the PPMC should look into
getting this corrected.

Kind Regards,
Justin

Re: [DISCUSS] Graduate Apache Paimon (Incubating) as a Top Level Project

2024-03-05 Thread sebb
There are some issues with the download page:

https://paimon.apache.org/downloads/

The tar links are fine, but the digest and pgp links must use
downloads.apache.org, not dlcdn.

There is no information on how to use the digests.

The download page should not link to GitHub commits; they are not
official releases.
Such links should be limited to pages aimed at developers, not the
general public.

Releases that are no longer maintained should be removed from
downloads.a.o. They can still be linked from the archives.

It should be obvious which release(s) are currently recommended.
That is not clear from the page.

See
